  1. you should be able to feel the rod loading up when the weight starts to get stuck, when this happens, lift your whole rod up up as high as you can, not just the tip, and shake it a bit, this should free the weight and then continue to fish, i do that when i feel the rod loading up a bit and get it free 99% of the time.
  2. ive never had a palomar come lose or break on fluoro or copoly, only knots i use are improved clinch, and palamor snell knot for punching, and alberto for line to line
  3. pinnacle is coming out with some super light weight reels, under 6 oz adn one model is $99 and the other is $200 something, looks real nice, supposed to be out around christmas time
  4. yes the 734 will be the rod you want, perfect for what you want to do.
  5. yeah, my next rod is eather gonna be the 744 or the new Powell TiMax that comes out in december, im looking at the 723 or 753 in that line.
  6. DX744 will be the rod you want. and i have a DX703 with a lews TP on it, the reel fits the rod great, and is a comfortable combo. i dont think you can go wrong that combo. i'm also waiting for the black friday sales to pick up a 744. i have the 703 and 745, but my friend swears by the 744, he fishes literally everything with it, frogs, jigs, worms, spinnerbaits, 4-5" swimbaits, deepwater football jigs, flip/pitch, he has a 200e7 and loves it just as much as i love my TP, just a personal preference.
  7. ugly stik combo at walmart, look for a 6'6 rod
  8. Yes it is an excellent jig rod, tons of backbone sorry to sound rude, but you should try and use the search feature here, alot of the past few threads you have started could all have been answered/ have been answered by using the search feature. theres TONS of similar threads on here, just cause you dont see it on the first page dosnt mean it isnt there here's a few topics on the 735 i found by using the search feature http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/124179-dobyns-savvy-micro-735c/?hl=%2Bsavvy+%2B735#entry1359980 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/109133-pitching-rod-suggestions/?hl=%2Bsavvy+%2B735#entry1189078
  9. for spinning, generally i like a ML or M power, fast tip. most often i use the ML but i use the M in heavier cover or bigger/heavier shakey heads. *** 7'1 is a good rod for $100, but i really like my dobyns Champion 702 but that will run you $230 or so... really depends on what you want, most rods these days you cant go wrong with..
  10. my vote is Pfleuger President, its $60 and a workhorse of a reel. ive had mine for several years and its still as smooth as the day i got it. i actually had it paired wit a vendetta 7'M rod at one point and it balanced well. you might want to also run braid with a leader, i found it made the vendetta more sensitive.
  11. Another good cranking rod for $200 or less is the powell endurace or max series. The 7'6 are some brute rods, and I also believe they make a 7'11 or even a 8'
  12. It's good for jerk baits, or close casting squarebills in sparse cover
  13. I have two rods I'll compare, an *** and an champion extreme, both I can easily detect a bite, but where the champ extreme shines over the *** is with feeling what's on bottom, I can feel the bottom pretty good with the ***, but the champ extreme is a lot more crisp. It's easier to tell when you have something stuck on your bait, when you hit sand bar or gravel, little things like that that make finding the fish easier. But in reality, I think it's more of a mental thing, because my dad can catch just as many fish as me on his $40 walmart special.
  14. in general, a M action rod is around 1/4-5/8 oz and 8-17 lb test, but since your rod is a little shorter, your rod might be more like 1/4-1/2 and 8-15lb test, somewhere in that range. and the braid that is out nowadays is so well manufactured, it is woven so tight, it dosn't get the dirt, and crud in it as bad as old braid, which is what wore out guides, so i think your rod will be just fine how it is.
  15. i look like a fool now lol
  16. if you worried about price difference, i found a NEW lews TP LH on ebay for only $144
  17. this is what i do, not a problem yet
  18. hey man switch to 8lb yo-zuri. its some excellent line, ill guarante youll love it more than the fluoroclear. and its twice as strong. the yo-zuri 6lb has a breaking strength of like 12lbs, so the 8lb is even higher. is a great line and not to expensive.
  19. i think you'll love the tourny pro, i have one paired with my Dobyns Champ extreme 703 and balance is superb, adn the combo is light as a feather, you get that reel dialed it and you can absolutely bomb lures with the right rod, i can bomb a weightless senko a long ways on that 703 with lews TP and 14lb fluoro. the TP is a noticeable amount lighter as well also, i dont fish shimano's but the lews TP is small compared to other reels i have, and palms very well
  20. low profile becasue there lighter, and you dont need a huge line capacity, i mean most people dont even use a full spool of line, i have about 75-85 yards of backing them my main line and i never need more, and lightweight reels become critical after casting all day for a 3 day tourny, plus small size makes them so you can actually palm the reel. those are some reasons why i love low profile reels
