Made the mistake ( ) of stopping by TheBeast's shop on the way to the pond and being the nice person that I am, I delayed my trip for an hour and half until he closed. Thankfully there was very little ice on either pond. We hit the lower pond first, I got a light bite on a jig, but that was it. Had to leave as the wind was coming in just hard enough to make it miserable. Moved to the upper pond, started throwing a stickbait. TB got bit on a jig, lost his skirt. After about an hour of chipping ice out of guides and the levelwind, I gave up. Forgot to look at the thermometer in my truck, but it was around 30* with a brisk NE wind. Definitely the coldest weather I've ever fished in. Now for the photographic evidence... Upper pond Lower pond TheBeast taking care of the first backlash of 08 The beavers are tearing this place up. That snow fell on Wednesday. Already down to bare dirt. More beaver carnage. That poplar is about 15" in diameter and barely hanging on. They have felled about 40 trees around the lake in the last 5 months Icy guides Yours truly thanking God for UnderArmor and Thinsulate. Oh well, my fishing jones is satisfied for at least another month. Or until the next warm spell.

One thing many don't take into account is protection from UV rays on the water. Sunglasses make a big difference. When you're on land, you've only got sun coming from one direction. When you're on the water, it's bouncing right up into your face. Yes, the cheap Wally World glasses will work if you're sight fishing. I've went through 5 or 10 pairs of those cheap Strike King glasses over the years. But the quality of those lenses aren't the same as those in a pair of Ray Bans or Maui Jim's.

I would sooner shove a 5/0 EWG Superline hook through my ear than watch most of his films. He plays each role in the same manner. It doesn't matter if he is in Dances with Wolves or Rumor Has it, he's the same guy. Mr Brooks wasn't bad.

Compare these baits. Top to bottom: Huddleston Yum Sweetcheeks Storm Kickn' Minnow Mattlures Bluegill Mattlures Baby Bass Storm Wildeye Castaic Platinum Out of all of those, the Hudd and Mattlures baits are the best constructed. The Storm lures are the worst. The Wildeye is so darned head-heavy that it barely swims. It weighs a bit more than the Hudd, yet it casts like a boulder. The only good thing about the Storm baits is that they are cheap. If you're into filling a tacklebox rather than catching fish, they're good. Otherwise they aren't worth picking up.

Quality is always more important.

This is why I am so adamant about not going cheap when buying tackle. I understand that a lack of patience plays a big part. But why settle for XYZ reel at $60 when you can wait a week/month and get ABC reel for $100?

I'll repeat it, but Tackle Warehouse is second to none. Place an order Saturday night. Get the shipment email on Sunday afternoon. On the FedEx truck cross country Monday. On my porch today. FOR FREE. Had I ordered from Bass Pro, they would most likely still be sitting on the order.
