  1. What style trailer do you prefer? A craw of swimbait style? I have been wanting to try the new Rage ones since the Chatterbait ones are crappy sometimes. The major problem I have is keeping the d**n pickerel/pike away from them.. GYCB swim bait in shad color seemed to work well for a trailer. I have been wanting to try a rage craw.
  2. Thanks for the replies guys. I will look into the local guys tomorrow. It's still tough putting my trust into a guy whose quality/ability I don't know to fix this. I get that shipping is shipping I just wish there was a full warranty period, meaning fully covered for the first year or whatever. my rod although bought in Nov. has only about 5 hours of use on it. I still have the plastic on the cork.
  3. Well I ended up calling Dobyns today and didn't exactly get good news. They offered to send me a guide for free for me to pay someone to install. This is fine and all but there are no rod builders in my area. Option two was to pay shipping both ways totaling $40 and send it to them and be without my rod for two and a half weeks. Option three is to break the rod and go to a dealer and pay $80 for a new one. You would think that with this being a defective rod they would cover the shipping at least.. I don't know what to do now. If I find someone to fix it will it be as good as new? Will it look like it was repaired? My rod that is like new will no longer be that. Its only been used a few times and will be repaired already. Not exactly pleased with their customer service. I have heard nothing but good things about them but this seems unfair to me.
  4. Hey guys I just got a DX744 for this season. I bought it during Black Friday sales. Anyway I have used it maybe five trips and today I noticed that the insert in the third guide from the top fell out. I always keep it in a rod cover when not used. I don't think I hit it or anything. My question is that is this something covered under warranty or do I have to pay the $80 replacement fee? Do they just replace the guide or do I get a new rod? The other problem is that there are no Dobyns dealers near me so I may have to send it in? Either way it looks like I will be without my new favorite rod for a while
  5. Nice. I am not too far from there and want to go check it out. Heard there are some good ones in there.
  6. The leader knot will not fit through the micro guides.
  7. If not using braid and a leader Duckett.
  8. Thanks Booty. While it is interesting, I think it may be a little heavy and big for me.
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. I want to go and get my hands on a Core maybe tomorrow and make a decision after this weekend. Matt, it's funny you mention having large hands and not liking the Ci4. I also have large hands and you would think that the larger reel would't be a problem but it seems to be. I love how small the Aldebaran BFS is. My hand engulfs it and it is so light. Do you guys know anything about the Shimano Exsence? What size is it? I am curious as to how the DC cast control is.
  10. Well, I got to break in my DX744/Metanium combo with some jig fishing this weekend and I must say that I really love the rod. The reel however, I am not too sure on. It performed perfectly but it just feels a little bulky in my hand. After a long day my hand felt tired and cramped from holding it. I am wondering if I sould have gone with a Core.. I feel like if I sell it and get a Core I am moving backwards in reel technology. I lose the 8:1, the X ship, and the Micro Gearing. Anyone else have a Core and Metanium? If so how would you compare the two?
  11. Respectfully Wayne, I disagree. As an automotive technician that had to go through countless hours of GM electrical training I have been taught different. GM's issue with solder was the inconsistencies, wether it be the person doing the repair or the quality of product used. The other issue is that the solder makes the wire brittle and over time with vibration can break. The method they wanted us to use was a crimp connector that had the heat shrink tubing as a part of it. Also they had some fancy crimping pliers that would not release until proper clamping force was applied to the connector. This created a consistant repair that once the heat shrink tubng was sealed it was good for life. I am not saying that soldering is a bad repair as long as the person doing it does it right. This is just what I was taught.
  12. I have a 7'3" White Ice in MH. I like the rod but other than the foam and paint I don't really see much difference to the Micro Magic. I would save the cash and just get a Micro Magic in the action you desire.
  13. I agree. I started with a Veritas and it felt dead to me. I also hated the reel seat. The Duckett is much better. If you want to use braid with a leader get the Macro Magic with the regular guides. They do feel a little underpowered so you may want to go one step up.
  14. I hear ya Hootie. Third time for me today with no green or brown fish. Saw tons on the graph but they didn't want to bite. Today I did break the skunk for the year by catching two striped bass the biggest being 7lb5oz. Man those things put up a fight. Thought I had a 6lb smallie.
  15. Dave Grohl, Roy Halladay, or Kate Upton
  16. Hey guys. I am looking to buy a Pro qualifier rain suit from BPS. I was just looking for opinions on the sizing since they don't list any info on their site. I want to get the lighter ones rather than the 100MPH ones to wear in the summer but want to be able to layer in the winter. I know the concensus answer will be to try them on but the nearest store is about two hours from me, not to mention they may not stock what I need. I am 6' 190 36x32 pants. I think I can get away with a large but layering concerns me. Thanks for any help guys.
  17. I second the Crucial. Great rod for the money.
  18. I have both and may not be too far from you. Where in NJ are you located?
  19. Just went to the lake for the first time since November. 10" of ice still.. looks like mid April if I am lucky
  20. Thank you sir. Just what I needed. I wonder why my instructions do not include this?
  21. Could you post a pic of it installed? My boat is not here and I just want to get an idea of where it goes.
  22. I got one. It just wasn't in the instructions so I figured it was some kind of shipping thing rather than a crucial part.
  23. I have this one mounted in my boat. No problems at all so far. http://www.batterystuff.com/battery-chargers/12-volt/marine-chargers/RS2.html
  24. Yes I have that. The instructions do not mention it. I was wondering what it was. How does it go on?
  25. Do you have a picture of it?
