  1. once you get the deer hair out of them they work pretty good!
  2. my casting rings on my gps are set for a hundred feet (33 yards). If i need accuracy, I need to be no more than 25 yards away. If fishing a point or flat then i"ll stay back around 35...
  3. I was having a great start for the prespawn, somewhere around a hundred till I wrecked my bike, two weeks ago and broke my leg and shattered my arm... I'm just now starting to be able to move my arm so I figure I'll be back to functional in another couple weeks.... Maybe...
  4. Till the water hits 60, my buzz baits and top waters collect rust in the box.
  5. buy more tackle! duhh!
  6. Senko wacky, followed by t-rig
  7. Charlies 10" ribbon tails Charlies 8" U tail Charlies Craws. They all float and work wonders on those fish that dont want to bite!
  8. I'm going to answer your question with a question. Does your boat still float? If it does, then you dont have enough tackle!
  9. That was the Fishing Gods trying to tell you something!
  10. read, try, try again, read something else, try, try again, read something else, try, try again. Talk, try, try again, talk to someone else, try, try again, talk to someone else, try, try again. Use what works and keep trying that which doesnt work the first time. Fishing is a lifetime of epic failure between successes!!!
  11. Mono gives me more problems with backlash than anything else I use. Reel Magic (oil based) helps a lot. If I spool it loose it gets ugly quick! If I spool it tight it doesnt cast as far, The most important to me is that it is FULL!!!! I personally only have one set up that has mono and that is my topwater, other than that I'm a Fluoro junkie, with a couple of braid only setups too.
  12. This is the BASICS in which I select line for techniques to keep it simple 1. If the lure floats for top water, so should the line- Mono 2. If the lure floats, dives shallow and has lots of hooks- Mono 3. If the lure floats, dives deep and lots of hooks- Fluoro, the smaller the diameter the deeper it will go. 4. If the lure sinks without weight added- Fluoro 5. If the lure sinks with weight added Fluoro, or Braid with Fluoro leader 6 If the lure is going into cover, heavy Fluoro or braid with Fluoro leader 7. If the lure is going into grass, Braid. Keep in mind this is just a basic mindset for selecting lines- technique specific may call for a change up, and that your going to have to research on your own.
  13. I use suspending jerks in the winter with a technique called "Dead Sticking" Bass are just not into fast moving techniques when its cold. I'm using my diving jerkbaits now for the prespawn/spawning with a lot of success. So dont give up on them, just got to learn when and how to use them. I cant say as to when the diving jerks would be most effective for your water temps, but here in Texas they become effective at about 60 degrees (our water temps in East Texas only get down to the low 40's, but get up in the 90's). So, with that said I would be looking to whatever the middle range water temps are for your lakes... Retrieve rates and presentation are just something your going to have to experiment with. Here, some days, they want fast erratic. other days they want slow subtle... Mix it up and you'll find something that works.
  14. I think the vendetta is trash!!! I had one explode into a bunch of little pieces on the first big fish that hit my drop shot rig. Switched to All Star! And I prefer Abu Garcia equipment!
  15. 8 baitcasters (6 technique specific 2 multi-technique) and three spinning (drop,shakey,and skipping jig)
  16. I throw a spinning during the day, but at night I like my baitcaster... I dont know what it is about the spinning but theres no consistency to my cast- the bait goes where it wants to. I can, with pinpoint accuracy, hit where I want it with my BC... and I've only been using a BC now for a couple years, but have been using the spinning reel for decades now...
  17. The T-Rig is my goto when all else has failed. Most of the lakes I fish, the Water Authority has killed off the vegitation, so I have a lot of barren lake bottoms. The shakey head is extremely effective in these lakes.
  18. If it were true, the fish would almost never bite here in East Texas, cause it blows from the east or southeast most of the summer.
  19. Rule #1 keep at it till the very end, you only lose when you stop trying! Sooner or later you will win one. Rule #2 It's never about the money. It's all about being the best YOU can be. Rule #3 Always be flexible and not afraid to try something different. Don't get stuck in the rut using the same baits over and over (unless they work over and over) Rule #4 Trust your instincts!!! Trust your partners instincts!!! Rule #5 Do what the winners do! Go where the winners go! I like to walk around and say Hi to all the people before the tournament starts. Not just to be friendly, but to see what they have tied onto the rods on the deck. Especially those that fish the lake regularly... Sometimes I use what they do, sometimes I dont. Any information that can be added to your plans is a plus.
  20. Way to much information for my A.D.D. I need the " Stats for Dummies" version of that.
  21. Your right Hootie, but my thinking was based on finding a line that DOESNT lose lures and fish unnecessarily. My buddy was giving the fish face jewlery yesterday, he lost 3 rapalas due to break offs. I gave him one of my shakey head rods that had 30# braid and he didnt lose another fish or lure.
  22. I use a Palomar Knot on this bait as long as the split ring is good. If the split ring is gone or damaged and I dont have another to replace it I'll go with a non slip loop knot.
  23. You, my friend, are absolutely correct! I usually do retie after a big fish and a few little fish... I was just doing my own little experiment on this line. It was a great day for fishing and the lure I was using was beat to heck so if lost it wasn't that big of a deal.
  24. Marlboro Green 72's and a lighter. I forgot my lighter one day- it was a short fishing trip.
