Mike @ DVT does good work. He built a spinning rod for my girlfriend on a Rainshadow blank (photo thread in the works). She has the nicest rod in the house. . . for now.

It's hard to beat a 200E distance-wise, but I'm going to try. Step 1, Daiwa Zillion. Step 2, HLC spool. Totally necessary step 3: MB X4 Destruction. Hopefully I'll be putting 3/4 oz 'traps into orbit. No one tell my girlfriend.

I would say use Fluoro, but I really like Fluoro.

Christmas gift cards turned into a lefty Zillion and a blue custom handle to match the TCS rod. Soon there will be an HLC spool on the way and then we'll be launching Gunfish into the next county.

Should be a pretty easy fix. The click plate and spring are cheap if that's what you are missing and a click-compatible star is like $25, though if it came with the stock star you're in business there.

Yeah I'd imagine that a BB2 Wide would out-perform 100-size reels with weights near 1 oz. Then again, I wouldn't be using the Revo Premier or the Core 100 for cranks between 1/2 and 1 oz. Lews makes fine reels; I've considered a BB2 myself for throwing 1 oz. topwaters and 7" Slammers. Sounds like you're both happy with the purchase and looks like he bought the proper reel for the job now, eh?

I would purchase and frog with such a reel.

I bought the 7'3" H at the end of the summer. The rod has good power and sets hooks with authority. I'm a fan.

I underspool Fluoro just a bit. It seems to help with the jumping. It could also be the reel. My President twists line very well.

The build quality on *** Blacks can be below average, but the blank is fantastic. In my hands, it beats an EVA Crucial and a Veracity. The Tatula is on my list. I've heard good things about performance and quality from reputable members here and elsewhere.

Maybe I need a second one.

I use that rod for jerkbaits and topwater. You'll be happy.

I've been looking at that rod for 1 oz. Topwaters and there's not a lot of info out there about it. I think you might have to be the guinea pig here and let us know how it works.

Actually I don't know how they could make a new CQ50. My 101 is tiny. If they made 7:1 gears for them I would sell everything else.
