  1. A few are .. most are not for the average fisherman. If you have a diversified tacklebox full of baits there is something in there which depending on condition & situation will be the best bait for catching the fish and the kind of fish you are after. Its yer job to figure out which..how to work it..where to work it. There are no magic lures. Its nearly all fisherman skill in my book.
  2. First off many many years I ago I was where you are. How the heck does a fish hit such a clunky and ugly thing? Nowadays I practically have one tied on one of my rods in nearly all conditions including blue bird days high noon.. yes even now prespawn cold water.. caught one today on a 1/4oz spinnerbait.. barely felt the hit but there he was in my hands a few seconds later. Brand? Any.. I used to catch lots of fish on walmart cheapos and Bomber spinnerbaits $1 a piece.. I'd modify them etc.. kinda fun. Nowadays I'm finding myslef doing lil less modifying and stickin to a base Booyah spinnerbait with minor mods. But the answer still is if a walmart el cheapo can catch lotsa fish.. so can most other brands. You want at least a small 1/8-1/4 oz spinnerbait for when the fish are finnicky and 1/2oz+ one for when you find they arent hittin the midgets and want somthing BIG for dinner. Oh and chatterbaits are great too but theyre more useful before the weeds start overgrowin later on.. so chatterbaits Ill use now in early spring into the spawn and alil afterwards.. and then its all spinnerbaits baby! Advice is to get a natural looking 1/4oz spinnerbait and take nothing else.. learn to throw that thing every which way shallow/deep fast slow.. adjust the blades.. put colorados on put willows on.. see the difference fer yerself. If its good enough fer Jimmy Houston, Rick Clunn, KVD.. its good enuf fer you and me.. those guys put ALOT of confidence into spinnerbaits.
  3. Crawling a jig across the bottom isnt getting me consistently out there either.. I need more action otherwise times better spent on yardwork keepin the missus happy,. Im more consistently out there usually when 55+ at the last half of of prespawn.
  4. Lots of physics going on.. from the angle of sunlight in the various seasons and times of day to the absorption of enrgy by murky water to the angle of retrieve changing the closer your lure approaches on its return to the fact water is largely considered incompressible and transmits vibrations much fast than air to proper way of sharpening of hookpoints to the penetration of light into the water and how color is affected to the slack pull slack of a properly timed walk the dog.. All of this comes together into you landing a fish or not by probabilities converging of multitudes of factors at the time you are fishing
  5. Thats alot of money to be spendin on a lure.. I could fill a tacklebox full of very effective lures which can produced in most condititions for that much mulla $$$ I thought I was crazy when I bought a Hardgill for $60.. wow $200 takes the cake..
  6. Have you ever seen anything like a spinnerbait in the water? I've not.. I know its supposed to look like a fish of some sort but it takes a real imagination esp in clearer water and they do bite those even in clear water. So who knows what the bass "sees" in any of these lures.. we'll never know.. ask a bass and get a tail in the face Try it .. if it works.. use it some more
  7. Good fish looks like theryre tired of this winter too.. Out there in Elgin.. how long ago did the ice go away?
  8. Phenix M1 Swimbait H Use it for all my swimbaits up to 4 oz
  9. I've been playin with mine like a toy ever since it got in the mail.. some lures are like toys Fact its weedless helps in not hookin myself
  10. Ya dont get something for nothin.. I use tatsu if i need fluoro
  11. Im sure it will as well as it displaces but I have lures which arent lookers and make lotsa commotions and get bit more in muddy than something more subtle than this..

New Hudd bluegill (light bluegill ROF5).. about 4" head to tail. The tail is fairly lively and flexible.. the bottom fin also. Its a slender profile (compared to a Hudd Trout) and so most of the material is in the mid-body section and it takes some force to collapse the lure to expose the hook there. In the area above the eye the air pocket collapses well. In my Hudd Shad the body exposes enough to be able to expose the hook well. Less so in this profile.. I am really interested in seeing if this will affect hookups. The finish is great though unlike the other Hudd lures I've had, this one more exudes a chemical smell. Also one side is darker than the other.. a finishing detail albeit a minor detail to me I dont much care about.. in fact it gives me two different looks. I think this lure is built to catch fish in clearwater.. cant wait to try it out.
  13. Looks like the huddgills are shipping. Cant wait this Spring Ima gonna go with Softgills and Huddgills .. never tried bluegill baits in the Spring.. never had to .. but cant wait to try another approach!
  14. In clearwater I have success with green pumpkin and off-white/pearl in plastics
  15. Temps will hit 59 tomorrow and guess who will be out there with jigs and jerkbaits
  16. How little you HAVE is not how little you KNOW.. but you KNOW that already My sweetest fish werent the biggest monsters, .. theyre the near lunkers I fought and caught off either my standby rods or gear or aged gear or my kids gear using lures and line barely qualified to be called that by mega $$$ corporations.. satisfaction
  17. 6 pounder LMB on Koppers hollow Frog
  18. Why are there so many tools in an ordinary toolbox?
  19. Im with you and similar to bass fishing.. if we catch and kill all the big bass there isnt gonna be much left for others to catch and see and enjoy.. One less 700lb black bear in the south for folks to see and enjoy .. hopefully from a distance
  20. Ya I saw that too it looks like a jerkbait.. but since it may be cheap enuf may try it out Kinda like a nordic version of the megabass
  21. Boy, you could buy some spinnerbaits and senkos and not have to buy much else all year long if you knew how to work em Thats pretty cheap there..
  22. I tried a rage frog on a chatterbait and even a buzzbait once.. not the greatest idea try everything if only once I guess..
  23. Well stuff breaks too and wears out.. esp plastics.. I think the only hope is to slow the spending down a bit.. after all part of the fun of fishin is.. shoppin for new equipment!
