Scum frogs catch plenty of fish. A slow retrieve making twitches over heavy slop, weeds or other cover is the way to go, and then slowly twitching it and letting it sit in a pocket. The strikes are ferocious.

What's the advantage of an inline buzzer over the regular overhead model?

I love gammies and have never had a problem. However the hookpoint does roll over at times after a snag or a large amount of fish. I hear the Owners aren't like that.

Cavitrons are the best buzzbaits around and I catch pike by the ton on them when I'm pike fishing. They stand up to the abuse that a 40 incher can dish out.

I love gammies. Sometimes the point rolls over though. Owners supposedly are better about not doing that. I need to try owners.

I have no problems hooking bass with EWG hooks. I texpose most of my plastics though unless fishing very heavy cover. A stiff graphite rod and a good solid hookset are a must though.

Power pro is far superior to fireline. It's smoother, casts further, tangles less, and stays strong longer. It doesn't chafe and it really casts wonderfully.

Try poppers or weedless frogs like the spro or spro bronze eye popper in the thickest weeds.

The counterstrike buzzbait isn't too good, it requires a fast retrieve to keep it on the surface. I like cavitrons because you can really crawl them nice and slow. Generally, but not always, the slower you can reel a buzzbait while still keeping it gurgling on the surface, the more strikes you will get. I use buzzbaits generally at dawn and dusk, or during cloudy weather. Once in a while they will work on sunny days with a slight wind chop, or if you are covering expanses of shallow water with lots of weed or wood cover.

A jointed rapala or manns baby 1 minus.

For hard jerkbaits I like X - Raps best, though I also like LC pointers and husky jerks For soft jerks, Zoom Super Flukes are the best, but sluggos and bass assassins are good too. I say an angler needs all six!

I didn't have a problem waiting to set the hook so I doubt that will be a problem.

I will be using braid for frogs from now on. I hate braid on other topwater lures because it ruins the action IMO. But that was mostly with poppers. With the spro frog it's more just dragging it over the slop and weedstalks.

Buzzbaits need to be used mostly in the mornings, evenings, and during cloudy weather. They can produce during the day sometimes though, especially in the shallows near heavy weedgrowth. At some lakes though bass are conditioned to them and they don't work as well.

Sluggos rock. They have a somewhat more lively action than a fluke, but they don't cast as far nor sink as fast. If your fishing shallower water or need a slower fall, that is a plus.

Maybe bubblegum could work? You can remove it. Maybe even electrical tape.

Flukes are best when fished weightless. To get them deeper use lighter line. I can fish them slowly along the bottom in 10 feet of water with 8 - 10 pound test. That line might not be an option in heavy cover but you can go with braid then. If you need to get deeper, use senkos or t or c rigged plastics like worms, tubes, and lizards.

I like sizes 9 and 11 for bass in chartreuse silver, natural perch, hot orange, and fire tiger.

Haven't tried them yet but I heard they don't take on water the same way the spros do.

Both work well but I actually have had more strikes on the regular frog so far. I was fishing heavy emerging weeds with tough stalks and leaves though. I had 22 strikes in 2 hours during mid day on the natural green Spro Bronze Eye. Would superglue or calk help keep the water out of the frog, cause I had the darn thing sinking on 17 pound mono after two casts without squeezing it? I have heard the new Madd Maxx has a drain mechanism and doesn't take in water the same way.

Do you get a much better hookset with frogs on braid than on mono? I hooked basically every bass that hit my frog the other day but most of them came off. I was letting them have it about two seconds after they took it.
