  1. catching big walleye and slab crappie through a hole in the ice!
  2. Try upping to 30lb braid the larger diameter of the line will dig in much less. People will say they use 20lb on casting gear but 30 is the lowest I'd go
  3. pretty good deal! I'd sell the rod locally for 100 and double your money
  4. dobyns are the only rods that I agree with basically all the specific actions they've chosen for techniques. A huge pro with them too is if you break the rod due to user error you pay a reasonable fee and it's replaced with a brand new rod.
  5. 1/2oz black blue brush jig (dredge Series)
  6. I use a graphite medium-modfast rod for 3/8-9/16oz jerkbaits, tip is fast enough to work a jerkbait perfectly yet soft enough to keep fish pinned on size 6 trebles
  7. most places where the smallmouth species is present, they are allowed to be weighed-in in a tournament. I'm up in Canada and smallmouth are fished just as much if not more than largemouth
  8. Dredge Series 1/2oz Brush Jig in Black Blue should definitely be on your list
  9. Back in summer I had a really nice muskellunge thump my jig when I pitched it under a boat, was good times
  10. check out the 742sf it's a bit more powerful than the 702
  11. I almost always go with a walking bait ie Rovers, Sammys, Gunfish, Bonnies, Duo Pencil They drive the bass wild
  12. I like a fast action for jigs and Texas rigs XF to me is for certain techniques, frogs, buck tail jigs, wacky rig, shakey heads etc
  13. I use the double Uni for leader to main line, hasn't failed me yet. I do 3 wraps each side
  14. ^Sunline Super Natural.. amazing mono
  15. I love Texas rigged Senkos, I use the gambler ace as well they are great and reasonably priced. I'm using a Heavy rod 3/8oz weight, 50lb braid to 20lb fluoro leader. I pitch it and cast it shallow and deep
  16. x-zone slammers! killer smallies bait
  17. Dobyns are awesome, crisp, light and well balanced rods! I think the 734 or 733 would be great rods to start out with personally
  18. Lews BB1.. fantastic cranking reel, have mine on my squarebill setup love it
  19. back the spool tension off more, and apply more mag brakes if needed. A 3/8oz Texas rigged plastic would be good
  20. doesn't have to be finesse, I use 1/2oz and 3/4oz football jigs for deep smallies they eat them!
  21. what about 3xd? think it runs 12ft and it's tiny
  22. jigs, jerkbaits, dropshot, tubes, spybaits, squarebills, flukes, senkos, spinnerbaits, etc
  23. pure fishing - berkley, abu Garcia, pflueger, Mitchell, stren, Penn, all Star, Fenwick, Johnson, sebile, spiderwire, shakespeare
  24. 6'8 medium / Xfast would be great for shakeyheads, 15lb braid with a 8 or 10lb fluoro leader
