  1. majority use heavy rods for froggin, yes mag heavy is more powerful than heavy but alot of manufacturers dont have a mag heavy MH - medium heavy, a step down in power from a heavy. alot of people use MH for frogs but i think that requires a heavy, its just about finding a stout rod with good backbone and a nice tip on it to cast and work a frog
  2. i havent used the rod but the shimano crucial 7'5" heavy / fast seems like it will do what you need and its in your budget, ive heard good things about those rods
  3. it is accurate, they were probably saying they dont use more than 1/4oz jigs. A 1/4oz jig head plus hook, skirt, wire tie or rattles etc plus the plastic trailer you put on ends up being a 1/2oz. +
  4. no trailer or trailer hook for me
  5. i have some sbs from mr siebert, they are the nicest ones i own. powder coated, owner hook, worth blades, sampo swivel and awesome skirt choices
  6. want!!!!

  8. The reels by Lews with dual braking are bb1 pro, tourney pro, team lews gold, team lews pro The reel youre looking at just has the external magnetic brakes Reels like the bb1 speed spool only have internal centrifugal brakes

  12. 1/2oz is size 4 trebles, 1/4oz is size 6
  13. last year i used a st croix H/F with good results just mentioned that as this year im switching to a H/XF, not for that reason the frog i learned on was the pad crasher too, this year ill probably be using the koppers alot i really dig that frog
  14. what line / rod are you using? sounds like when you set the hook it wasnt enough to puncture so the bass just held it in their mouths for a moment and eventually spit it out. to maximize hook sets with frogs go with braided line 50-65lb test, the rod should be MH, heavy or stronger with an extra fast tip. fairly new to frogs myself but thats what ive learned and it helped me put fish in the boat last summer good luck
  15. the owner tube hook is pretty awesome, allows you to rig the tube basically weedless and it has owners super sharp cutting hooks
  16. strike king - crazy craw dragged on the bottom
  17. this, im glad i saw a video on that subject when i was teaching myself the palomar ive never had a knot failure yet. I used the improved clinch knot before the palomar and did have the odd failure
  18. my absolute least favorite aspect of braided line is that it tends to bow in the water and wind
  19. when my cousin and dad were fishing many years ago my cousin managed to hook himself on the very top of the head, didnt look fun
