Yep. Mental state can have a lot to do with how well your rods survive various 'challenges'...lol. The two experiences I referenced above were both hot-headed. The first was from shore with a relatively new rod that I disliked right out the gate, fishing an area where I was getting hung every cast. The second was a brand new rod that shouldn't have broke despite my 'abuse', and was replaced by mfr immediately. Additionally, beware of the some cheaper stuff. If QC is poor, the weights can have sharp edges that will shear your line. Inserts used to be almost mandatory, but if the edges are polished, you may be ok. Read reviews on brands/vendors and maybe buy real small quantity first to test for yourself.

I suppose chicken wire isn't as bad as razor wire, but still sorta sneaky. There's a dock on a tidal river here that has wood slats extending to/below the surface that prevent skipping under....MOST of the time - during the lowest of tides combined with a dry spell, that there's sometimes a 'skippable' gap...and I learned after passing it by for years that there are, indeed, good fish under there. So, I guess, if I was in your hypothetical situation, I'd drop a wood wall to/below the surface, but probably not chicken wire

Hope I am not misinterpreting @GReb....but, I took it to mean the dependency is reversed from your interpretation: IF pegged, use tungsten; IF sliding, use lead....makes some sense, since the contact 'transmission' up the line appears to be more direct when pegged, so tungsten might be better. When sliding, some of the rock/wood/bottom contact energy is absorbed by the weight moving along the line and lost before it gets to my hands, so lead may be good enough much of the time.

Seiberts makes killer finesse jigs....but I don't think I ever owned a 3/4 oz finesse jig...wow...like Melissa McCarthy in a tutu

This. And I try to execute it in exaggerating friendly tones. Sure, there's plenty of idiot dock owners. But, I try to remember that some (many?) have been negatively influenced by fishermen before me. I fish lots of docks and I can't tell you how many times I've seen others slamming lead into hulls, banging lower units, breaking off hooks in lines - and even in canvas seats and tops....leaving hooks in pilings and ladders. So, I understand that many would prefer that their docks and boats were left alone. I assume that the loudest 'complainers' are not fishermen, so I do what I can to try to improve the impression they have of all of us. Aside.....how come there isn't a law that says waterfront property owners must be fishermen/fisherwomen? Always seems like such a waste when I meet someone on a beautiful piece of lakefront that doesn't fish...smh

May be in my head, but to me, tungsten does feel different. I am a believer that the harder metal makes 'different' contact with wood and rocks and is more 'sensitive'....not sure that sensitive is the right word, but I do think it 'transmits' the contact up to my hands much better. I'm sold and don't plan to go back any time soon. In fact, I recently used lead exclusively for much of a day just to sort of test my opinion, and I'm still certain that tungsten is better...for me.

I'm sort of amazed at how tight the forecast cone is for Florence. Either, the prediction confidence has improved dramatically in recent years....or, this storm's navigation system is awfully sure of itself -- set a course for Wilmington, NC and put it on autopilot

I grew up using spinning gear for walleyes and northern pike....big reels, big line, etc. Smooth drag was nice, but I didn't key on it -- when using 20# test, some slight 'roughness' in the drag was rarely noticeable. When using 6# test on 5# bass, you've got a whole other story going on....even slight bumps in the drag may result in break-offs....letting a fish run out smoothly is huge. That's one reason lots of drop shotters don't even use their drag as much as I do; they 'back-reel'

"Line twist issues" are generally more about the line (and presentation) than about the spinning reel. To me a 'better' spinning reel is (pretty much in this order, though I might switch top two): 1. Smoother than others (handle) 2. Smoother than others (drag) 3. 'Durable' 4. 'Weather tolerant' 5. Relatively light 6. Feels 'right' in my hands, on my rod Everything else is secondary (except maybe price )

That high bulk/weight concerned me a little, too. I also put the battery up front, blocked by some closed cell foam packing, Gooped to the inside hull; transducer is behind it (also Gooped) - through-hull; and head is ram-mounted on factory tracks.

This weekend, I participated in a tournament on the same lake that I discussed in July. Pre-fished Friday with continued success by getting t-rigged worms to the bottom of the (much thicker than six weeks ago) weeds. Took me way to long to get it through my head on Saturday, that the bass just weren't playing the same game. Winners killed it with split shot rigs tickling the tops, while we kept trying to force them to eat off the bottom. Even when you think you get it figured out....keep thinking...

I got 7MF. Not sure what I'll use it for...it is more like XF. Only thrown 75 Whopper so far..I've got two other MF rods I love, so we'll see, I guess. Total impulse but. The other two have shorter handles, which I appreciate in the kayak. I love the weight and feel, but it may take a while to work it into the regular rotation.
