@mattkenzer offers a great starting point....and if you're smart, a great ending point, as well. There may be volumes written about color just within Bass Resource forum posts....but don't complicate things. I think most of us have narrowed it similarly. I like green plastics, generally -- and I pay little to no attention to flakes. I also have some darker plastics, black and/or blue mostly; a few worms in brownish, and some soft paddle tail swimbaits in white. I have lots of other 'stuff', but I could go to just green, dark, brown and white tomorrow and never look back. Hardbaits, similar story....I like the cranks to be mostly blue/white/chartreuse, or some combination...and lipless can have some metallic silver or gold in them. But, keep in mind not to overthink it....after all, so much conflicting info is written because it is an inexact science and nobody can know for sure what the bass thinks of your color choices....even when they seem picky, it is rarely possible to know if there weren't other factors involved.

I have not....in fact, I realize that I misspoke above. I have been using Incrediclaw Slim on chatterbaits. I haven't tried the non-slim version. As to other applications, I probably wouldn't have considered them. Only because they remind me of Brush Hogs/Baby Brush Hogs, which (for no good reasons) are pretty far down my confidence spectrum.

This is a very interesting wrinkle to the discussion. And still not outside the realm of measurable. Not anything I'm about to tackle, but it is a concept that won't occur to most fishermen considering 'stretch'; but could be quite significant. Not just the drag, but possibly even the amount of bow or arc that different lines might have. Straightening out the 'bow' will affect the angler about the same as 'stretch', but not as easy to picture, especially when considering dry 'stretch' tests that seem authoritative.

Some love Daiwa. Some love Shimano. A few love both. And some like Lews, too. At your price point, you're certain to get a quality reel. Take a little bit to study the brake systems - in these and in the reels you have experience with - you may get some idea of what you prefer. Beyond that, you may not know until you try each. Rage Bug, generally white; and Culprit Incredicraw

I use a bug a LOT, but almost always Rage-rigged, or as a chatterbait trailer. I use craws as my primary jig trailer.

I always keep an eye on weather reports. And, still I get into some bad spots on the river (or more specifically, most of my 'fun' experiences were on the Occoquan, or Gunston Cove.) The problem for me has usually been that I still get surprised at how fast it can go from glass to dangerous...can be less than five minutes. Usually in the afternoon, when a predicted front comes through. I've been known to stay out just a little too long at times. Weather dot.com says 4 o'clock....but, I'm still out there at 3:35 when it crashes my party a little early

I don't think much about whether bass can see my line. However, I respect the opinions of those who do. I think the variety of opinions of experienced fisherman and even biologists leads me to believe that we can't really know how much effect there is. So, my overriding concern regarding line visibility is whether or not I can see the line. When using worms and jigs, and such, all other factors being equal, I'm going to catch more fish with bright yellow line than I will with invisible line.

I'm not concerned whether bass see my line. But I use braid (or Gliss) with leaders on all but my cranking rods. All of my leaders are longer than 2', and some may even approach 10'. Generally, I try to prevent leader knot from getting onto spool, but I'm not anal about it. I tie small knots and take care to clip tags, and don't have a problem on the spool or through the guides. As I said, I don't care much about bass seeing my line -- but I do care if I can. Leaders allow me to change re-tie without reducing the amount of braid on the spool (2' leader wouldn't allow too many re-ties before needing a new one); they allow me to break-off on hopeless snags; and they offer much greater abrasion resistance than braid alone. I have never used 20# leader, though. 6-15# is my entire range.

I still give ribbon tailed worms a lot of love. Culprits, Rage Tail and Keitech, primarily. I think I tend to swim them more than most, but I do park them on the bottom a fair amount also. Some days, its all about the vertical drop, though. RT Anaconda was probably my no. 1 worm in the mid-summer last season. I typically use 3/0 worm hooks, but some almost require ewg, like Mad Wags, and Fat Max.

I got serious CRS, so I won't swear to anything, but I am pretty sure those features we're NOT on the models I compared a few months ago. Any thoughts or experience related to operability in skinny water? I.E., ease of lifting drive, bottom contact durability, paddle-ability, etc?

Are the gear tracks new? I looked at these a few months ago and decided to focus on Wildy/Jackson pedals for a couple reasons - one, Compass didn't seem as fishing-ready; and two, I convinced myself that the other two drive systems would handle the shallow slop and rocky rivers I fish better than Mirage. And then, after a couple days I woke from my dream and decided there were other things that needed that 2.5K that I don't have....still widow shopping, though

My head can be a mess when its tough. But, generally, when I'm not catching fish, my mind tells me that I haven't found hungry ones yet. This comes from low confidence in getting on active fish, I suppose. So, I don't generally 'assume its the lure'. However....what's really nuts is that if I've gone, say, an hour without a bite; and then I boat a fish not having changed anything -- without really thinking about it, I often change the lure very soon after. Crazy, I know. My pea brain says that I probably had the right areas and targets all along, but I just happened on one stupid fish that hit my 'wrong' lure. If only I'd had something else on, I'd already have a limit....don't ask

Had a pretty good Friday, Saturday and Sunday down your way. Jerkbaits and spinnerbaits mostly, but jigs and finesse worms, too. Bass are scattered and not too predictable, so nothing approaching a pattern. Jerkbaits at drop offs and just inside creek channels was closest thing to pattern. This one came on finesse jig with small chunk...very slow ROF

Doesn't matter if I'm in a boat, kayak or on the bank...whether its a river or lake or tidal coves....I always have one rod that has a Rage-rigged Cut-R or Rage Bug on it -- nearly always green. I catch more fish on that rod/lure than any other....because I throw it the most???...or do I throw it the most because I catch the most fish with it?
