  9. Too cool Randall! A 40lb day is a rare thing, and alot of fun!!!! LOL @ the shell cracker, my buddy caught a 5" bluegill on a 5" Mattlures Bluegill one time, funniest crap I have ever seen
  10. Yeah, I'm developing a new kind of fish story. Just say that the fish weighed less than it actually did! Its really quite groundbreaking ;D RW, What I mean is that it is not at all a high percentage gig. Our water temps are in the low to mid 80's right now. Not exactly ideal conditions for trout. Most lakes haven't had a stocking since early june. Generally trout won't survive through the summer. There are exceptions, of course, but mostly trout baits just don't get bit much in the summer during the day. At night, I'll chuck them all the time, but I often feel like i am wasting my time during the day. The reason I did decide to fish them all day, is that there are some special circumstances involved, that I felt raised my chances of success. I actually went back on Sunday and did VERY WELL, but that story is for sometime later in the future Fish, I too am not typically a run and gun type fisherman. Sometimes I'll just put my head down and chuck, chuck, chuck, but mostly I try and calculate. Sit down, have a drink and a snack, look around, put something together and follow a plan. Its definitely alot more gratifying when you plan it, and it happens, than when you are just chucking and get a random bite. but thats me. I guess you could say that I would rather be mediocre than just lucky LOL ;D Man! I love fishin!
  11. The last few weeks have been sucky! My boat had been out of commission for the last month, so I have been stuck banking, float tubing, or bumming rides with buddies. Work has sucked, I had no boat. My state of mind was not good I got my boat back on the water and went to a lake that I don't even like! It doesn't make alot of sense, but it seemed like the place to go. I went by myself which I really enjoy. I get all my own jokes, never back boat myself, and can pass gas in peace I decided to commit to big baits all day, which is dumb because it is the middle of summer. After three hours I had 0 bites >. In my mind though, i was just happy to be out, in my boat, doing what I wanted. I just told myself that it was one of those skunk trips I have to endure. You got to have alot of those when you're a swimbaiter and you suck like me ;D About 5 minutes after I made peace with that little realization, I got a bite..... 8lbs 11ozs. It was cool because when she bit, i set the hook and missed her, but as soon as my bait stopped after the set, she ate it again! in the words of fish chris WOOO HOOO! I then came home, had a HUGE steak, a couple of frosty brews, and "wrestled" with the girlfriend. It was a mighty fine day. I am leaving for the lake in 45 minutes
  12. I'm not sure weight wise what is my biggest, but this is definitely my longest. I got it last month.
  13. I'm gonna buy all the nevada desert property i can get my hands on for cheap.........its gonna be beachfront soon ;D
  14. Big ones.
  15. of the ones you mentioned though, the Crucial is my favorite. my number one swimbait stick...for now, i've got a little something in the works
  16. I'll recomend one that you did not list, because I know you fish from shore and are used to long rods that cast farther. Look into the 8'6" Dobyns rod.I have never thrown one, but is seems to be what you need they are hard to find right now though. Triton mike might have experience with them. here is the link. http://www.dobynsrods.com/champion.htm
  17. so muddy, I don't understand is an "extinguished" author
  18. Very very sweet Fish!!! Nice coloring too!
  19. I prefer a ML over anything else.
  20. There is some real truth to that one. Man dumb ones are easy
  21. Probably the longest sentence in history! just yankin your chain
  22. I know what you mean RW. I am still a rookie in relationship to an awful lot of guys. Just going out and sticking with them is the best way to eventually get a good fish. When I really committed to big baits, that was all I threw for about 4 months. I got a lot of fish in the exact "wrong" conditions, conditions where I don't throw swimbaits now, and thus never get those sweet bonus fish. It is good to stick to your guns but when 13 pluses are eating crawdads like no other and haven't seen a trout in months, a jig or worm is a higher percentage bait IMO! Take a look at Matt's new woodbait. There is a lot of potential there
  23. I think he is right RW. He never said to look for small fish, just to change baits. You do NOT have to throw a swimbait to be hunting big fish. Remember fish's last post where he chucked a swimbait all day for no fish, then went out in the evening and stuck an 11 on a 3" plastic? There are times when a swimbait is just not the answer. When Supermat and I had our 48lb 10.5 oz limit, we threw a swimbait for about 2hours, for not one single bite. We ended up with a 13lb 1oz, an 11lb 8oz, an 8lb 2oz, an 8lb 1.5oz, and a 6lb 14oz all on worms, blades, and craws. There are just times that a swimbait is not the bait to use, not the end all be all.
