  1. I thought the same thing matt, But we both know that you probably shouldn't eat fish from some old pond. What I will end up doing, is taking a few fish from that pond, by cooler, to another pond. The one that I will be taking them to, had a huge die off last year due to low water levels and high heat. It is fed by a well, and isolated downstream. I don't want to kill fish, so that is my plan. I really feel like this is one of those ponds that could actually kick a legitimate DD. I'm excited! Of course, if I catch a really big fish, it will go back to its home NO MATTER WHAT!
  2. I have access to about 10 ponds in the immediate area here. They are all pretty much dink farms, but I have half a dozen fish over 5 out of them the last year or so. Today I went to one of my favorite ones. It is only about a mile from my house, is full of violent 2-3 lbers, and I am the only one who fishes it...in the last 7 years! It is TINY though! about 100ft X 125ft. Its a pretty cool place to blow an hour or so, the fish are chunky and VERY MEAN! On the way there, I drive by the neighbors house, which has a nice little 40ft X 200 ft pond that looks fishy. I ask the homeowner of where I normally fish about the other pond that I am always driving by. She says she will call the lady next door and ask her if I can fish there too! She comes back and says that the little old lady said yes, come on over. SWEET! another new pond! I drive over past the pond in front of her house and talk to the old lady and she says right away. " There is only one thing I ask: No catch and release" ......ok.... "Why?" I inquire. " Because those dang bass are always eating my baby ducks and geese"... JACKPOT!!!!!. At this point, I look out her back window and see it...the "other" pond.... 5+ acres of the bassiest lookin crap you have ever seen. Floating docks, downed timber, overhanging trees, tulies, vertical posts in deep water, islands, rock piles, bluegill dimpling all over,....... H E A V E N !!!! She goes on to tell me just how many baby ducks she loses a year, she saw 23 get eaten THIS YEAR! And those are just the ones she has seen! She has duck and goose houses comepletely surrounding the place, probably 20 or 30 of them. Only problem being, I have been asked to not release the fish. I took my 3:16 Baby Wake out and started chucking. Third cast, WHACK! 2.5 lber I somehow manage to "lose" him after my line somehow goes slack for about 15 seconds right at the shore Today was POST FRONTAL, and I still had 5 fish blow up on the baby wake, no real big ones, but under those conditions i think 5 swimbait bites in an hour is pretty f'n sweet! I shook them all off, so no pics. I have been given an open invitation to come as I please and use her little 12' jon boat. I will be returning soon with my battery and trolling motor, when it is storming and catch a real good fish. There is a toad in there, I know it, and she will be mine, oh yes, she will be mine! I'm STOKED!
  3. I use the pegging strips from mojo.
  4. I have probably 12 or 15 wakebaits ranging from the little 6" baby wake all the way up to the 10.5" Armageddon and 12" Slammers. I LOVE wakebaits! You can throw them anywhere. I'll throw mine in 2 feet of water or over 100 feet. If you have the water clarity, aggressive fish will come up from 35+ feet to hit one! I would just fish them wherever you think there is the clarity for them to come up and whack it. Of course running it past visible ambush points is a good idea. FIsh them in the same places you might fish a buzzbait. Wakebaits are wicked, especially that little Baby Wake!
  5. Spots are tasty Largemouth and smallies are safe!
  6. That is the wording I have been grasping at for ALL of these ridiculous threads. Expensive things can bring out the worst in people. Does anyone remember the BS that got thrown Redline's way when he first joined? Same thing. ( sorry for the callout Redline, but I still remember and that was sucky)
  7. I caught both the fish you are talking about and the 11-4 in my avatar on oversize plastic worms. The 13-1 was caught on September 3rd of last year, about as far from the spawn as you can get here in california the 11 was caught this year sometime in May I think, couple months after the spawn. They never touched the drag, drags are for sissies LOL ;D
  8. Great fish man! Did you get any stripers? Some guy in our tournament had a 26 on a punker out there that day. I think i should probably fish mine more : Congrats dude!
  9. No, they didn't make it for me, it is just the one off of their website. They had a professional photographer with some kind of uber-bad DSLR, thats all I know! I'll probably fish some more tournaments, but I don't see them being a priority anythime soon.
  10. I fiddled with that rig a bit this past winter. I was using 2-4 lb test pline, 9'6" BPS Float N' Fly rod, daiwa sol 2500 I was using the 1/16 Bullet Lures jigs with the 7/8" Pear shaped floats and thill wiggle floats. It was alot of fun. Found out it works REALLY well for a certain other species too!

    Now, THAT is funny!
  12. I have had a couple of them. The very first run of them had a janky level wind, current versions are fixed. I bought mine of ebay, new, for $60. If my only option were to get one at full price, i'd scrape up a few more bucks and get a citica, way better than the cruxis. that being said, besides the level wind issue, they hold up fine. I winched my PB in with one with a buttoned drag, that was a good test

Avid, I've got a line on some sweet 22" rims if you are interested Glad to hear that you're not out of pocket on anything! Nice ride!
  14. I love how everyone always uses the "i'm not holding it out, and i'm a big guy defense" that fishes head is right next to mine. that is what a 12+ will look like. oh and coincidentally, I am 6'8".

Toyota all the way. Full size would be a different story. Another taco would be the way to go imo.
  16. I started that other thread for a reason: I GOT WHUPPED UP ON! Robert had all of the big fish! He was on that crank bite! He pulled my weight all day LOL! I'll ride coat tails all the way to the podium LOL! In my defense, I stuck to swimbaiting for a huge portion of the day and it didn't really go like pre fishing did. Most all of my fish culled out or were shorts, but a couple of them made up the limit. I run a mean net LOL!
  17. I've known it for awhile, but after getting schooled with a crank this weekend, I need to get better with them. I would like to know everyones favorites for the following conditions. 0-3 feet, clear water, heavy vegetation 3-6 feet, clear to muddy water, sparse to medium vegetation/wood 6-12 feet, clear to muddy, rocky 12-18 clear, rocky also what are the deepest diving 2.5 -4" baits out there? currently fishing DD22's.
  18. Hook Line and Sinker. They haven't put up the pictures yet, but I will keep checking.
  19. Thanks guys! I had a ton of fun. Only problem is now I gotta mve some rods so I can afford the SWBR 956C! These things are wicked! I didn't take any pictures on my camera, but there were a bunch taken, when they show up, i'll post em!
  20. Thats a nice fish for sure, but there is absolutely no way that is a 12.

Hope you're doin alright avid! Hopefully plenty of drugs and lots of rest! If you are having trouble, I might be able to help. I found this for you to peruse..... JK JK!!!!!! Get better!!!!
  22. I own Benchmades, Cold Steel, and SOGs. All three brands are wicked, but overall, Benchmade is probably my favorite. All much less expensive than 500, at that pricing, I have no experience.
  23. Well guys, I finally fished one. I hadn't come up with any fishing plans for this weekend and my friend Robert calls me friday and asks if I wanna fish a delta tournament. I said sure. I had only fished the Delta one other time this year and had done pretty well. We ended up fishing Saturday (pre fish) and Sunday (tournament). We did alright saturday, I had a couple of nice swimbait fish in the morning, one of which was between 4 and 5, didn't weigh it. We then spent the rest of saturday fishing every possible way we could think of and narrowing down spots and techniques. We got on them ok, but not great. When we finally got launched on blasted off on Sunday morning, there was an 82 boat field. Mostly guys who consider the delta their home water. We got out there and things went right ;D We had a swimbait fish around 5, and cranking fish of 6.1 and about 4.5 as well as some 3ish fish on cranks and flippin. We ended up with 25 and change for 7 fish. Big fish was an 11.08 lber and there was a 10.6 and 9+ weighed in as well :o But we still got 'em! First place out of 82 boats in my first tournament! What a ball! I took some of the winnings out today and got myself a G. Loomis SWBR955C Swimbait Rod to throw my medium size baits on, and it is a BAD MUTHA TRUCKA! I love this freaking rod! I paired it up with a Shimano Cardiff 300A that I have a Calcutta 400B handle mounted on, its SWEEET! I still like catching big fish alot more, but winning tournaments is fun stuff!
