I've got it pretty sweet, I will be the first to admit. In re: to chris and rolo in particular, I understand the balance that you guys are talking about and think that I have found it. When I ask her if she wants to go, she ALWAYS says yes. When I tell her that I am going fishing, she never asks to go. And as far as I can tell, she doesn't resent me for not inviting her. Brannus can attest, she is pretty much the best girlfriend ever Also when we fish together, she is COMPLETELY self sufficient and will choose her own baits (usually logically too) and KEEP QUIET! The only time that she might cause distraction for me is when it is hot and sunny and there aren't many boats around, she acts like it is the french riviera A quick trip to the bottom of the boat, and I'm back in business, LOL! I'm getting to the point that I prefer to fish alone, or with guys that are better than me. I am most efficient and get more bites when I am alone, and when I am with someone who is a better stick, I have a chance to learn and get new perspectives on the conditions. Then there are my other buddies, like brandon, who i just take along to run the net and camera for me ;D ;D ;D jk buddy! Oh and my mom will fish too, here is a 55lb Ling cod out of resurrection bay a couple years ago, thing was a toad. p.s. suggestive comments about the gf, are appreciated, about mom, they're not, LOL ;D

Stainless Steel vs. Tungsten
tungsten is awesome. i think its true value isn't realized unless you are fishing deep, in clear water, over rocks. smaller profile gets you down quicker ( not really noticeable, but after fishing in 60FOW all day, it adds up) smaller profile is less obtrusive in clear water that gets lots of pressure. tunsten transmits rocky bottoms amazingly well, 'specially in deep water. also nice when punching mats, a 1.5ounce weight isn't nearly as big, and with the very heavy line used and the relative absence of potential snags, its not unrealistic to fish that one weight all year. it is a relatively rare metal that due to its extreme hardness and heat soaking properties, is very very expensive/difficult to manufacture. hell that is what the tip of a TIG welder uses as its electrode. (i'm sure catt knows all of this, but some may not) also worth noting, is the fact that not all tungsten weights are created equal. some of the alloys contain much less tungsten than other companies. tru tungsten claims 97% pure, and they definitely have the smallest profile of the tungsten weights, also they are now machined so that no insert is needed which I think is very very good. now do i use them for dropshotting: not usually. I use them at night, when the bite is tough, or when i am flipping. tungsten rocks

Cool little tool.....
I have had one for about 6 months, i originally got it for on the water hudd repair. it works alright. now with mend it, i'll only melt baits at home with the propane torch. it eats batteries like an apache helicopter though. i cut my braid with my needlenose, which have carbide cutters in them.

Dobyn's Rods.
I guess that I just started comparing the powell's to imx's. I mean the imx are only $50 more than the 7'3-7'11" powells, and there is a huge difference in the way they feel. i like the imx alot more, enough to pay $50 more anyway. I was so excited about the powell swimbait rod when it came out, i went out and fished two of them and HATED them! That is why I never ended up buying them. They just don't feel right, i don't know what it is, but from the moment i picked them up, i knew i didn't like them. I cannot imagine a better rod than the loomis swimbait rods and that 8'6" rod.

I relapsed !
I have been at a can a day for the last 7 years. I once made it a week without a chew, that is the closest I have ever came to quitting. You made it 8 months, throw the pouch away. Sincerely, Other Big Puss

Dobyn's Rods.
I don't often decide to eat crow, but here it is. I spent some time playing with the 8'6" rod and picking gary's brain about some things I never got a straight answer on from anyone else, that put most of my concerns to bed. I still don't like the feel of the spinning rods, but that is personal I guess. But let me tell you, that 8'6" Swimbait rod is AMAZING! Had I not just bought another loomis swimbait rod the day before I would have picked one up. I am becoming less and less enthralled with powell's everyday. I think IMX's and that 8 and a half footer will make up any new rod purchases for awhile. So on the off chance that anyone is looking for a wicked rod for the big baits, give one a shake.

Can't win em all, But I'm off to a good start
thanks guys. the finger is actually really good. i took the glue off after the t-shoot, and after having it nice and tight for almost 24 hours, it looked fairly good and it still hasn't pulled open or anything. I have been wearing a protective splint to work every day. kind of a PITA. but there is no sign of infection or anything, and I think I might be able to avoid losing the nail. now the bad part is, is that it is my left index finger and the tip is 100% numb. this sucks because it is the finger that I lay against the blank when I am worm and jig fishing.basically how i detect bites. booo. also very difficult to type efficiently, even without the splint on, so if you guys see an uncharacteristically high number of typos, thats why. but back to fishing, it sure felt good to whip those guys. the kids in the 25 year old boat sent them and their wrapped trucks and boats home crying ;D The guy that I fished with is fishing the FPT TOC this weekend could win a new ranger! I really think he might do it! That would be cool!

Can't win em all, But I'm off to a good start
Well, boys this is a long story, so stick with me. Our local boat dealership was supposed to put on a tournament after their customer appreciation day, which is kind of a big deal, lots of local pros, and one of the elite guys. They ended up unabhle to get the permit for the lake due to extremely low water levels. So we decided to just have a little turkey shoot. The night before I was out in my garage. Now my boat jack recently broke, so I had it sitting on a 3ton flooe jack. I went to lower it and my my finger was on top of the pipe handle of the jack which was in a vertical position. When the boat came down, the dock bumper lip came down on top of my left index finger which was on top of the pipe handle. The jack continued down while the boat didn't > I know have a 17ft boat resting entirely on top of my finger, which is on top of the pipe, which is basically a cookie cutter. It hurts.....BAD :o. There is no one around and it is midnight. After about 15 seconds ( seemed ALOT longer) I somehow managed to lift the boat off of my finger with only one hand :-/. I look down and see blood, ALOT of blood, so I head for the house. When I get inside I get my finger under the sink and see the damage. Not good. The pipe had made it to the bone and I have a semi circle gash where it did. :'(. I need stitches. I don't have health insurance. I have a turkey shoot in 4 hours. So I did what any self respecting, manly, bass fisherman would do. Super glue. And I taped it up real tight to hold it together and put it in a splint so that I could not pull it open or bump it. Then I got the rest of my gear together and went to bed. After a solid 3 hours of sleep, I got up and headed to the lake. My finger hurt. Well at least the part before the near amputation, the tip was quite numb When we arrive, we get a good idea of what the field will be. 9 boats, all incredible sticks on this body of water, 4 of which are local pros, and another the undeniable swimbait king on this lake. Ok, tough day ahead, but we were on a great swimbait bite. Only problem: Blue bird skies. Not good for our pattern AT ALL. So we head out to our money spot. First cast with my $90 triple trout finds it cannonballing down on top of a rock > Its all jacked up. Fishable, but ugly So a recap thus far: Nearly amputated finger, competition way out of our league, screwed by the weather, ruined $90 bait. > > > > > We were fishing a 3 fish limit, which lends heavily toward swimbait fishing. So I kept to that religiously most of the day. My partner dart headed on 4lb test and managed to scrape up a 2 3/4lb spot and a 2 1/4 lb spot. Oh and a barely legal keeper Weigh in was at three and it was 2:30. We had little fish in the box and stiff competition. My day sucked. Then as often happens while swimbaiting, something unexpected happened. With 15 minutes of fishing left to go before a long run to weigh in, my budy gets a 5.41lb spot to go on the swimbait. SWEEEEEET! We were still gonna lose, but at least we were gonna do it gracefully. After all was said and done, it wasn't that bad of a day, all things considered. I remember why I hate that lake. Oh yeah, and we won too ;D
