  1. Yup, but my preference is chartreuse. You can kinda tell from this pic, but then again he choked it so I took that as an endorsement of my color selection
  2. It certainly is advantageous to have parents retired on Hilton Head Island, and having a very reasonable 5-hr drive to get there I didn't get to fish nearly as much as I wanted (but hey, do we EVER get to fish as much as we want?) but I did OK regardless. The first evening down, I got a few largemouth to play on some of my usuals (pink fluke, Grande Bass Snake'O Stick) lures before two gators chased me off. I can fool one, but not two. No big ones, but still fun on light spinning gear. On that note, I think the Owner weigthed twistlock light hooks may have been invented just for me to fish the ponds of HHI. But I digress... Took my customary inshore guided trip with my usual guide. I think this was trip #23 with him, so yeah, he's good We've done all the usual fishing down here so now we typically swing for the fences. Unfortunately the wind made it impossible to find the 25-30 lb Jack Crevalle so we went after the tarpon. Things started well early when we say a tarpon roll through the pod of bait we were netting but that was it for the day. Mr T. didn't want to come out and play. But the day was not a total loss as I got to add another species to the list, and it was certainly not one I expected. It wasn't a monster by any means, but the 6-ft Tiger shark we caught was still friggin' awesome. A few other days, I hit the tidal creeks at dead low tide and was not disappointed. A chartereuse Gulf Swimming Mullet did most of the damage on flounder and trout -- two species that I've caught plently of, just never on my own on HHI -- so I was thrilled to have them join the party. A few of the flounder would have made a nice dinner had I thought ahead to bring the cooler, but oh well.... If only I could have found a redfish, I would have had my first-even inshore slam. All in all, not a bad week at all!
  3. Rip some grande lips, Stitch!
  4. You're probably using a crappy rod
  5. You've got mail! Or more accurately, a PM
  6. Really? Interesting...Those look like stripers to me.This is consistent with how I tell between them here in GA http://www.arkansasstripers.com/identification-white-bass-striped-bass-hybrid-bass.htm
  7. So I shouldn't tell you where you could do this on HHI?
  8. BPS Crankin' Sticks go on sale for $50, or at least they did when I bought mine.
  9. I believe it was Pflueger
  10. Avid 66MF paired with a 6:1 Revo STX and 12 lb mono Does great for poppers, walking baits, prop baits, jerkbaits and other similar baits.
  11. It's odd...the fluoro I "learned on" is Berkley 100% Fluoro and I NEVER had a knot failure or one of those mysterious line failures. Granted as others have said, it's thicker than other brands' similarly rated line so I guess you can say it's more forgiving in that regard. I use a Palomar knot exclusively, and the very large majority of my T-rig fishing with the 12 lb Berkley was 3/16 oz weight. This year I bought a few spools of Sniper and I have already had 2 line/knot failures. I'm certainly not giving up on the Sniper just yet, but in my experience, if you're having issues breaking the Berkley I think you'll see MORE instances with the Sniper. Moral of the story is to identify the issue and fix the underlying problem. Knick in the guide, poor knot tying, line is fraying and you're not checking/retying enough, etc. I don't think the line is the culprit here.
  12. Have you been to Hammond's up in Cumming, near Lanier? Hammonds blows the Dugout out of the water (pun intended ).
  13. A MH/F rated for 1/4 - 3/4 oz is my SB rod too. I've not seen any reason to pursue a "spinnerbait" specific rod, as the trusty MH/F does just fine for me. Is there some issue you're having with your current rod that is causing you to rethink your choice?
  14. Big Hammer heads to match the Big Hammer bodies. I also like the Buckeye J-Will heads.
  15. Dawson @ http://www.fishonfabrications.com
  16. You can also chum them up top and then throw live bait or topwater lures at them.
  17. Well yeah, I kinda figured I wasn't tying it correctly Regardless, I have no complaints about uni-to-uni so I'm not in desperate need to figure out what I'm doing incorrectly in tying the Alberto or FG
  18. I could never get the Alberto to hold consistently. I've also spent about an hour messing with the FG knot and cannot get that one to hold either. Uni-to-uni still gets my vote as I can tie it correctly every time, and I've not had a failure even with hard fighting inshore fish.
  19. The Okuma Guide Selects are well-regarded
  20. Please try that trick you posted on FB. I wanna see a good video of Manuel pummeling you
  21. Hey guys, I'm pondering a purchase but need some input for those who have handled or fished the Kistler Helium 3s. I'm considering picking one up as a jig stick, and the weights I normally throw are 1/4 or 3/8 oz with trailers around moderate cover, but also want enough rod for slightly bigger jigs as well. When I look at the website, the Light/MH Fast, the MH XF and the H XF all look like options. Anyone have any real-world feedback on which might fit the bill? Thanks!
