A Word Frequently Misspelled On Here.
Not so much on this site, but I'm constantly amazed at people getting sell vs. sale wrong. "I have to sale this...". "For sell". Seriously?

Any Deals To Be Had On Sunglasses?
Hey guys, Anyone know of any online sources on where deals can be had on current models of polarized sunglasses like Oakley, Costa, etc? I've found places online that sell but I've seen next to no deviation from MSRP, and I can't tell if those places ever run sales or not. Any other ideas?

Saltwater Fishing Gear
Let me start by saying that if you're using pompano to feed sharks instead of feeding yourself, then you're already behind I'd say you only really need "specialized" gear for pier fishing if you're targetting kings, cobia, tarpon, sails, bull reds, stripers, etc. For blues, spanish and ladyfish, you can do some with spoons or gotcha plugs. For the other ones, just soak some shrimp on the bottom. And can't hurt to have a rod with a sabiki rig as well.

Hilton Head Island- Palmetto Dunes
OK, you're speaking my language now since my parents are retired there and I fish HHI several times a year. As a matter of fact, I fished this lagoon system for the first time in April of this year. First off, some perspective. This lagoon is basically a managed trophy fishery. The biggest trout of of there absolutely obliterates the SC state record, but for some reason that water is not eligible for the records. In short, it's special. Fishing from the bank can be a bit tough as it's tree-lined. There are certainly some spots you can access, but if you can swing it I HIGHLY recommend you book a trip with Captain Stacy at http://www.palmettolagooncharters.com/. They take you out on an electric-only Carolina Skiff and basically you're pitching laydowns with live bait like you do for bass, but the payoff is an angry redfish at the end of your line. Yeah, it's sweeeeeet! If you're looking to take a guided trip on HHI outside of Palmetto Dunes, I'd HIGHLY recommend Capt Brian at Off the Hook Charters. By now I feel like I'm part owner of his boat, so yeah, he's good As far as determining if the ponds are fresh or salt, use google maps to see if you can find a direct connection to the ocean. Alternatively just ask at the Palmetto Dunes outfitter or check-in location. If the stories I've heard are true, some of those golf course ponds in Palmetto Dunes are the scene of some giant redfish slaying action. For equipment, M/H spinning reel is fine but go with braid especially if you are also planning to try to fish wade on some flats in or around grass. Popping corks and carolina rigs with live or fresh dead bait work well. For artificials, walk-the-dog baits, mirrodine suspending baits and jigheads with Gulp shrimp get bit. If you're hoofing it, get a tide app for your phone so you can at least ensure you fish at optimal times. PM me if you need more info.

Drop Shot Combo.
Are you planning to cast the dropshot away from the boat or drop it straight down? I think a slightly shorter rod is more helpful for the vertical fishing technique. My recommendation would also be for the Avid 6'9" ML/XF paired with a 2500-size Shimano. Personally, I'd use flouro for this technique and I'm not sure the smaller 1000-sized reels would handle fluoro as well as the larger-spool 2500.

How Long Should A Leader Last.
If a knot was going to slip, I'd tend to think it would happen pretty quickly so it's strange to hear that it's happening later. In that case it sounds like the line is fraying so try to check the line every 5-10 minto see if the fraying can be detected before total failure.

People Abusing Fish
Not sure I see the feasibility of local tournaments equipping each competitor with a Marshall, iPad, etc. FLW or BASS, sure. But non the mom and pop tournies.

How Long Should A Leader Last.
So are you saying the knot slipped, or broke after being frayed? I have not yet been able to consistently get an Alberto to hold. For that reason I only use uni to uni on the water

Super Fluke Question
I recently started using that weighted light wire Owner hook and I am really liking it, including using it for flukes. I fish it the same way I do when the fluke is weightless. From what I've seen so far, the action on the fluke isn't changed a whole lot but rather its accelerated (if that makes sense). For instance the way it falls is similar, but the keel weight causes that fall to happen faster.

New Stradic?
I've got two 2500 FH, two 4000 FI, a 5000 FI I picked up well-used from an inshore guide and all are still going strong. Granted your outfits get much more use in the salt than mine do... The part that irritates me the most on this is that the end-of-factory-support clock on the FJ series has now started counting down.

Line For Jerkbait/topwater
For me, fluoro is not a choice for topwater. Either braid or mono will do the job. What size spinning reel? 12lb mono might not handle too well on a 2500 size reel.

Key West Bass Fishing?
If tarpon fishing is not more fun for you than bass fishing, I think there's something wrong with you

Could You Use Bass Gear For Stripers?
MH or H bass gear should be ok for smaller stripers but if you tie into a big one, you may have a problem. Braid would help from a line capacity perspective.

My hat is perfectly fine, thank you You know, I didn't think about that angle. I'm sure my wife would appreciate me going to Baccarac instead of joining the club. Let me ask her and I'll let you know how that conversation goes. Hehe... Understatement of the decade, Dwight.
