  1. One option is to get a pack of hollow belly swimbaits and some of the jigheads that you insert into the body of the bait. The brand escapes me, but I have some of the jigheads that have a large top hook plus a loop that can be pushed out through the bottom. You can then attach a split ring and treble hook to that bottom loop so that your lure ends up with a single top hook and a treble hanging off the bottom
  2. Do you use your standard swim jigs when you have the hollow bodies as a trailer? Or are you using something with a beefier hook?
  3. I like Dobyns as well, but also look at the Daiwa Zillion rods
  4. Sufix As for the "cheap" part -- when you look for braid, there can certainly be some initial sticker shock. But considering that you can leave that stuff on your reel for YEARS, it can be cheaper than fluoro and mono over the long term.
  5. How does Shimano feel about that?
  6. I freakin' LOVE my Zillion rods for jig and worm fishing. If you haven't fished a Zillion rod before, you'll find out pretty quickly that they're more powerful than the specs would seem to indicate
  7. Two ways work for me 1) The tip K_Mac mentioned above 2) investing in rod sleeves. These are great investments for in-home storage, on-boat storage and transporting rods
  8. Dobyns Champion or Extreme casting rod in 3 power, St Croix Avid or Legend in M power, or a Daiwa Zillion 7' M casting rod
  9. Does leaving the split rings on hamper action when you're using a snap?
  10. x2. Just select your knot based on if you're joining like-sized lines, or lines of different diameters
  11. 1/8, 3/16 and 1/4 for me
  12. For those of you wearing crocs, keens, etc -- are you wearing them with or without socks? I've seen some reviews somewhere (I can't seem to find them now) indicating that some of these are not meant to be worn without socks.
  13. Hey all, After a full day standing to fish on my boat, my feet are usually killing me so I'm looking for some footwear options. I'm usually wearing flip flops or Nikes, but they're not doing the trick. I'm hoping like crazy to avoid crocs (they just ridiculous to me ), so please give me some other options Thanks!
  14. x2 If you're taking them home to eat, there's no need to keep them alive If you want a portable livewell to keep them alive, then you can make one out of a cooler.
  15. Chris at Tech replied to deep's topic in Fishing Tackle
I stumbled onto one of these last year. Absolutely fantastic looking bait! With that said, I need to spend more time throwing it to "tune" it. Seems to me mine would roll onto it's side rather easily.
  16. Speaking of weird topic headlines...
  17. You have many options, as others above have mentioned. But I haven't seen anyone mention Bandits.
  18. Donation sent! My area in GA was largely spared by the wrath of these storms but I have seen a few paths the tornadoes left when they crossed I75. Wow...the damage I saw was from tornadoes significantly weaker than the monster that hit Tuscaloosa and it was still shocking to see. I can't imagine experiencing what happened in Alabama so this was the least I could do. Let's help DB make his goal, and then some!
  19. I assume I could send a check made out to "Tackle the Storm" to the same Bremen address?
  20. What do you mean by "inexpensive"? Regardless, sensitivity is not really needed here. Chances are you'll see the strike happen so you want 6'6"+ Heavy power, fast action rod. For a reel, I'd recommend a 6.3:1 or faster reel with a strong drag. Top it off with 50 or 65lb braid and you're good to go.
  21. I happen to LOVE PLine CX. Smooth, manageable, small diameter... A very good choice for a less-experienced fisherman using a baitcaster. Does exactly what I need it to do while throwing topwater plugs and hard jerkbaits. Yes, the CXX will have a higher break strength and abrasion resistance than CX, but you pay for that with line memory issues that CX doesn't have.
  22. I'd say not to bother. In that type of cover you would normally throw a frog in, adding a leader does nothing but add a weak point between you and the fish.
  23. Depends on the dates but this would be a heck of a place to attend my first BR Road Trip.
  24. I'm struggling with that myself. Ideally, leaving them in their original packages is probably the best. I packed a 3700 box full and am getting lots of bent tails so I've had to dip them in boiling water to regain their original shape.
