  1. I know the Lew's are getting good reviews, but I cannot imagine it being close to the Zillion.
  2. OK guys, lay it on me -- how badly did everyone murder the fish today?
  3. Sounds like a lot of the distinctions being made here are the difference between folks fishing for fun and the folks fishing to impress others. I fish for my enjoyment only, so other folks "assessments" of my skill mean diddly-squat to me
  4. Lots of short, skinny bass. If the ones you're catching are all fat, it certainly sounds like they have plenty to eat.
  5. I think the M would suit you better for your intended purpose.
  6. Hilton Head Island, SC Add these things to your bucket list if you haven't already
  7. Who gives a crap? I fish for fun, and if I can get access to a lake that will increase my fun, I'm all in even if I need to pay some for it. You can make the same argument across the board. Budget tackle vs high end tackle. Jon boat vs $50k tourney rig. Fishing with a guide vs. fishing on your own. In my opinion, anyone who makes a big stink about someone else catching fish out of a private pond is a jealous blowhard.
  8. Hey all, I just got back from the roadtrip today and had a great time. Guntersville didn't quite show out the way we would have liked, but the company more than made up for that. "Should've been here last week....". Hehe... For those of you out there, I only had a chance to say goodbye in person to a few of you since I had to leave right after getting off the water on Weds. I was so darn worn out on Tues evening at dinner that the thought never crossed my mind to say goodbye then! My apologies! Glenn, Kerri, Fishing Rhino, and Scrutch -- it was an absolute pleasure sharing boats with all of you. Well, maybe not Gene, but the rest of you were great And for all the other folks I met but didn't have the opportunity to fish with, hopefully we can next year. To all the mods and zip pow (and anyone else I'm forgetting), thanks for your efforts in putting this thing together. Everything was great! For any of you showing up in the next day or so, let me give you the top secret bait so you can stock up. But you gotta promise to keep it quiet, OK? Ready? Bubblegum pink horny toad on an Alabama rig. Throw it out there and hold on!
  9. And Tom's monster for the day. The picture does not do this giant justice. Had to be AT LEAST 8.... ...inches... Thanks again, Tom! Let me know when you visit GA and we'll hit the water.
  10. Got out on the water with Fishing Rhino today and had a great time. Tom's decided to relocate from Mass to become the premier drum guide on Lake Guntersville. I think this is a niche that hasn't yet been filled. This is Major Tom to drum control...
  11. Top 'O The River Restaurant 6 PM CST 7004 Val Monte Dr Guntersville, AL When you get there, let the hostess know you're with the BR group.
  12. Oh I know, it just sounds ridiculous.
  13. Can I call "dibbs" to fish with Lane?
  14. I've seeing spinnerbaits, swimjigs, swimbaits, shallow cranks, jigs and plastics in 4-8 FOW as the hot patterns.
  15. My buddy and I have an ongoing joke about the list of excuses you hear from fisherman and guides. I swear, one day I'm gonna publish it. My favorite of all time -- "seems like the fish aren't here. There's too much water". And he was serious.
  16. 'Poon in my avatar. Also shared in the catch of a blue marlin off St Lucia but the pics didn't come out (ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!). Guess I'll just have to get another
  17. After seeing how highly regarded Xcalibur rattle baits were on this and a few other sites, I grabbed a few. At high retrieve speeds everything is fine, but these baits don't seem to swim very well when I slow them down to a slow but consistent retrieve. I know that below a certain point, no rattle bait will swim but this same speed seems OK on my Red Eye Shads and Aruku Shad. Anyone else have this same issue, or could I possibly have gotten a few bum baits?
  18. He confirmed with me last night via PM before he hit the road. It's the 3 of us on Monday!
  19. Thanks -- I'll keep this in mind. Fishing Rhino let me know I can probably fish with he and RW on Mon, so I'm planning to call tomorrow to see if that still works.
  20. The only day I still need a boater for is Monday...
  21. I'll take Sunday if it's still open
  22. What are you intending to fish with it? Techniques? Types of cover?
  23. I throw them on a Dobyns Champion 683c, but that's a bit over $200. Take a look at the St Croix Avid AVC68MXF
  24. If you're using baitcasting gear, I'd recommend using 40lb braid or higher. I've never had good luck using 30lb or less braid on a baitcaster -- the line would always dig in on itself from hooksets and from trying to free snags. But 10-30lb braid is great on spinning reels.
  25. My wife used to be my spooling station. She's happy I purchased the Berkley Works very well!
