  1. In 2011, I finally forced myself to throw a jig and it paid off. Now I certainly didn't catch any monsters, but I caught enough fish to have confidence in this thing after more or less avoiding it for the last few years. I also spent a good amount of time throwing the carolina rig this past year, and again had some good success with some good fish up to 6 lbs. In 2012, I want to build on my effectiveness with both the above techniques, and I especially want to stick some bigger fish on a jig. I also REALLY want to get to the BR roadtrip this year, at least for a few days.
  2. Putting the trolling motor on high and cover water with moving baits
  3. Shimano seems to pride itself on leaving anglers who use LH reels out in the cold on many of their models. I use LH exclusively and was never a huge Shimano BC fan to start with so I'm more than pleased with my Revos and Zillions. Try an STX, Premier, Zillion or Ballistic T3 in LH.
  4. I use my Avid 6'6 M casting rod, Revo STX and 14lb Suffix Siege. The rod has a F action, but a really soft tip so it works really well. I also use this for jerkbaits.
  5. I may go just to watch you man 172 dutch ovens at once
  6. I'm having avatar issues too. My pre-upgrade avatar is not appearing, and when I attempt to upload a new JPEG, I get an error "failed to set a new photo" Any suggestions?
  7. That's just the thing. Bama had their shot, AT HOME, and lost. No one is debating who is better because that was already settled. Not to mention that it was an atrocious game to watch. Hell, I think Ga Southern deserves a rematch with Bama since that Div 1-AA school scored more points against Bama than any of the mighty SEC teams
  8. I thought the BCS motto was "every game counts". It needs to be changed to "most games count, and we're SEC homers"
  9. Hmmm....I'm shocked to hear all the negative opinions of CX. I freakin' love that stuff. Thin, strong, and VERY manageable. I concur with those who mention terrible line management issues with CXX. Doesn't matter to me that I can pull up a stump off the bottom when I can't cast without loops.
  10. Rsndall -- let's carpool
  11. If you like stiffer rods, look at the Daiwa Zillions.
  12. Lemme see... First off, the gifts I actually purchased for others...Revo STX, handful of rattle traps I got myself a Dobyns DX 744C, about a dozen spools of line, and a bunch of terminal tackle.
  13. Good thing I ordered last week...doh! But on the flip side, I already received my order
  14. If you just sat around in college waiting for the professors to teach you everything you need, then you missed the point of college. The biggest benefit I got out of my college education was learning HOW to think, and to use that to solve problems.
  15. How heavy a jig, and in what kind of cover are you planning to fish? Personally I wouldn't go over 1/2 oz with a 4-power Dobyns, and for heavy cover, the 5-power may be a better bet.
  16. Got room for another friend?
  17. Agreed. I don't even think you'd be able to get a crankbait to 15 ft using 20 lb mono/fluoro My advice would be this -- get the longest rod you can. 7' is OK, I use 7'6" since that's the biggest I can store, and an 8' would be even better to maximize casting distance. 10 or 12 lb mono/fluoro gets the job done for me. I've never tried braid for cranking, but I certainly see where the low diameter would be helpful.
  18. Yeah, you could say that -- I saw it all the way from strike to the net. And he stuck a 9+ in front of me earlier this summer too. I'd also like to document this post as evidence of the fact that Randall learns his fishing spots from me
  19. It took me a while to figure it out -- it ain't as easy as walking a Spook or a Sammy. I was able to get a frog walking by using very small twitches of the rod tip (with the rod tip down) while I had just a little slack in the line.
  20. That's because you're a rookie Come to grips now that you're going to drink complete swill during college because that's what you're supposed to do. Either that, or your friends will steal all the good beer you pay for and repay you in swill. It's part of the invaluable learning experience that college affords. A nice stout or hoppy IPA is great, but drinking more than one of those more intense, filling beers can be a chore. That's where Yuengling comes in. In conclusion, Abu Garcia Revos are clearly superior to Curados.
