  1. In the $200 range, also look at Daiwa Zillion rods.
  2. BR Roadtrip 2012 to Lake <wherever Big-O lives>!
  3. Great bang for the buck. It 7MH will do well for spinnerbaits, plastics and jigs but wouldn't be my first choice for cranks. It will also do admirably throwing buzzbaits, hollow belly swimbaits and other similar baits.
  4. For lures of that weight, go with the 4-power
  5. Thought I've never fished one, Powells seem to get great reviews and they're in your price range. For a few bucks more, the St Croix Avids are also some GREAT rods.
  6. Thanks Confucius So because you personally don't see any value in getting this question answered means that it can't be valuable to anyone???
  7. My AC66MF feels like it was made for throwing topwaters.
  8. If anyone feels this info isn't any use to them, just don't read this thread Personally I'm curious to see how similar baits across manufacturers differ without having to buy each type. But if you have no interest, feel free to move on to the next topic
  9. I've thought about this myself. Anyone with a postal scale (or something similar) who's got time on their hands? I'd love to know the weights of the following: super fluke super fluke jr trick work magnum trick worm sweet beaver horny toad lizard
  10. Note for anyone who may draw my name in this year's Xmas Exchange -- THIS is what I want. And make sure it's a lefty
  11. So let's cut to the chase... When the heck will SK start the "buy a pack of Rage Tail plastics and get a fishing trip with Big-O" promo?
  12. Sufix braid, PLine CX Premium copoly
  13. I'll be your photographer!
  14. As mentioned above, use a reel that is set conservatively with a plug of decent weight. Also to minimize backlashes, take a cast with this rig yourself. At the end of your longest cast, strip off another 10 yards or so and put a piece of electrical tape on the spool. This way, backlashes won't go too deep and will be easy to fix.
  15. I seem to have trouble rigging the Basstrix. I can't get them to swim well. Shadalicious work well for me, and I can split the belly myself to enable better hooksets.
  16. 704 I fish plastics up to around 1/4 oz weight + plastic on my 703. Above that, and I'll change to the 704
  17. I won't be able to get out and experiment for a few days. I understand that it's so light and that it holds air so that it's not a good bait to throw weightless so I thought about rigging with a 2/0 or 3/0 lightly keel weighted hook to swim or twitch it.
  18. I've been hearing good things about the Hag's Tornado baits. Who fishes these and how do you rig yours?
  19. Get the most rod you can afford, especially for jigs and plastics
  20. I have a handful of these rods...Champion 683C, 703C, 704C, 705CB, 735C and the Extreme 703S. I throw weightless plastics and T-rigs on the 683 and 703. Lately, the 704 has had a lighter C-rig on it. I find the sensitivity on mine to be very good. I will not say that the sensitivity is that much greater than other rods in the range, but for me, the combination of sensitivity and balance makes them extremely comfortable to fish with for extended periods of time. My only Extreme is the spinning rod, and that's mostly for shaky heads, split shots, slider heads and small scrounger heads. By all accounts, the Extreme line has been VERY well received by many, especially for contact baits like jigs and plastics. I may consider picking up a 3 power or 4 power sometime in the future, but my Champions are getting the job done for me now. As mentioned above, the closest to the DX 744 in the Champion line is the 734. Just one inch difference in length. FYI, I've never held the Savvy in hand, but for that price range I'd find it hard to beat St Croix Avids
  21. As a Georgia Tech alumnus, I'm right there with you.
  22. You're free to feel what you want, but you can't justify your argument by throwing figures out there. In Mass, there's not really any big-time college football so I'm guessing you haven't had the chance to attend many college games. The atmosphere, the passion, the fact that you can be in classes M-F with a guy who is a college All American on Saturdays all lead to a totally different feel than the pro game. The quality of the players is no doubt higher in the NFL, but that doesn't always mean the fan enjoyment must be higher in the NFL. And I'm sure you feel differently, but I'm not a terribly big fan of the prospect of a lockout because the billionaire NFL owners are complaining about the millionaire NFL players, and vice versa. I would love nothing more than seeing fan attendance down significantly if there is a 2011 season so these jokers remember the ridiculously privileged they have to make their income the way they do. In an economy like this one, I think the American public should be insulted by the crap the NFL players and owners are pulling. But the fans will come back regardless, unfortunately, and the owners and players won't make a nickel less than before.
