Snakes Climb In The Boat
Interesting article, I have seen 2 in the st.johns @ Jacksonville.. Being brackish, maybe they were crocs & not gators. I just assumed they were gators, now I'm not so sure.. Of course, plenty of gators in freshwater, everywhere I fished down there, but only 2 sightings in the brackish St.Johns.. Interesting

Seems like women join here most everyday, however they don't do a intro, post or anything... Not sure what that means really, just a observation..

Snakes Climb In The Boat
Also, Garter snakes ball up like that around here, about this time of the year.. Of course they are on land.. I seen it once, the snakes are harmless, but man, so many, I mean multiple balls of snakes rolling, snakes running from here to there, spread over 2-3 acres. I was running a survey crew at the time. Creepy, creepy sight I will tell you..

Snakes Climb In The Boat
They sure do! In about 77 @ starve hollow state park a young girl jumping off a concrete diving platform was bit to death, no one could help her.We had to vacate.. Really quick too, we were camping at the time, I was 12.. A lot of panic. Park was shut down for 2 years... Scary stuff. I believe they were water snakes, she was bit, but as I recall, she likely drowned, at any rate it was horrific...

New To Baitcasters Having Trouble Spooling Up
I'm not sure i follow the free spool issues completely.. You have to have your thumb or some pressure to avoid the spool from taking off independently after clutch engagement. ( thumb on spool ) engage clutch, rod swing, follow thru ( cast ) then, braking forces of the reel comes into play, as your lure approaches your target ( splashdown ) your thumb takes over again... Maybe tighten up the cast control a bit, you maybe running to free, also if your line is being cut by threading thru the holes in the spool, then your going to have a nasty birds nest, lol Attach your line around the spool & not thru it. Don't feel stupid, lots of folks always learning, I appreciate your humbleness though..

Flukes
A lot of guys use megastrike goo, I use powerbait if I really feel the need for a scented bait, sometimes a garlic infused plastic.. Other than that I personally don't stress over scent.

Snakes Climb In The Boat
It's all good.. Ditto on knuckleheads, I know exactly the type myself! Seems many have no reason to kill, but do anyway. A sad reality to be sure..

Snakes Climb In The Boat
Around here, the primary snake ( copperheads ) Can be really bad.. There are concentrated pockets of them, at some spectacular fishing spots. They get in a area, and it's over.. If it's fairly isolated. I quit fishing 2 locations and they are about 70 miles apart.. To many copperheads! I had to dispatch one on my property in 08.. 51" and the largest CH I have ever seen.. Sorry, my kids and dogs are entitled to protection, but not a huge copperhead, lol I have encountered some giant cotton mouths in Blackcreek ( Greencove springs Florida ) I mean the size of which were shocking... Geez... The red tail hawks are a major force here in keeping the rodents in check, along with feral cats, coyotes & snakes ( black & blue racers)

What's your take on the python explosion in Florida? Geez, I use to see so many people walking around Ft. Lauderdale w pythons, now it's fairly infested from my understanding... Use to be, watch out for gators, mocs, rattlesnakes, scorpions.. Mosquitos, lol now pythons! I have had them fall in my boat, ( yikes ) seen many a moc, and rattlesnakes.. Pythons are where I draw the line!

Best Monofilament For Baitcaster
Pline CX it's a bit softer line than CXX, it's very strong, comes in clear/blue fluorescent. It's good line. If line is not winding properly, it's the angle at which your holding the reel vs either your bait, or when spooling on the line in the first place. Get a proper line winding tool... It will last years & years.

Biggest Fish You've Ever Seen (But Not Caught....)
That's not a easy question.. My dad on a oil rig in 1968 ( Gulf of Mexico ) stuck a hammerhead.. They winched it up with cable, and chained it around the head, cable broke.. Chain held, they about had it nearly all the way out when the chain broke.. It was a large chain! I have slides of this shark... It was scaled to be 20 to 23 feet based on items in the pictures (slide film ) you can't see all of the tail though.. Biggest shark I've ever seen. We lived in Galveston for 3 years and I saw lots of big sharks hanging from poles on Galvelston beach, but never, ever anything approaching that size..

Squarebill Crankbaits Confuse Me
It's counterintuitive, first thing that hits a persons mind is " I will get snagged" I will loose my crankbait... You will get past that, and you will either destroy or loose a few. No worries, plenty of crankbaits on the market to buy..

What Time Of Year Do You Expect To Catch The Biggest Stringer ?
In Florida, I use to do my best in Febuary.. Although, that could fluctuate a bit.. The bag I was most proud of & still am, was a near 17lb Bag on loochloossa in July! A daytime tournament, with my work buddies. ( aviation ) I caught all my fish in 45 mins, after sunrise. The bite was over, it was a brutal day, lol My over 11 lb was also in July, under a school of crappie ( big school ) same lake the following year, pre spawn is definitely the time for heavier weights, typically.. If I was rolling dice, I'd put my money on the pre spawn.

Bad Hook Set
Small bass ( lmb ) seem to be culprits at striking at the claws of a crawfish ( plastic ) quick double taps.. Bigger fish? Not so much.. In my experience, seems they are more capable & inhale the bait more readily. Bigger crushers? I understand smallmouth are really keen on biting the pinchers off crawfish.. We don't have good numbers of smallies so I'm not positive on it, but I've read much from these forums and smallmouth fisherman that say this. I have no reason to doubt them.
