  1. I had good results from the Butler chain and Lake Toho in February while on vacation.
  2. Great info and advice posted above but man I'm ITCHING to have our ponds thaw out and warm up so I can throw some frogs.
  3. It won't mimic a bluegill but a 4'' Huddleston has been used locally to antagonize some bedding bass. There are quite a few baits you could rig weedless like lizards, worms , frogs etc.
  4. I don't know all the inside info as far as how the current status is on Florida fishing but from my experience down there last month and seeing numerous pics of 10+ lb bass from several guides and fishermen there doesn't seem to be any lack of big bass being caught. This winter according to some put a lot of hawgs in the boat in Central Florida even with the crazy unstable cold fronts.
  5. There are plenty of big bass....in certain lakes across the Unites States. Not sure where you were going with this.
  6. It sounds like one of the private lakes I fish locally. 25 ft deep and you can see down 10-15ft in some areas. I have had the best luck using a black/blue or junebug color worm. Actually I havent fished anywhere yet that a junebug or black/blue worm wouldn't take a few bass.
  7. So many choices but don't count out Lake Toho if you make it to central Florida. Many DD's have been caught there so far this year.
  8. It must depend on the person checking your bags. I flew 4 times in the last year and had to have any hook related lure stored under the plane. I found out the hard way when I was holding up the line while they were checking my box full of crankbaits and other baits.
  9. Lake Toho beats the Big O in quantity of 10+'s caught each year. We'll see where it ranks.
  10. If you need a guide let me know. I fished the Big O last week on vacation.
  11. What a slap in the face and back to reality in my home state with -17 degree temps and 35mph winds. Why in the world did I come back to this crap? Where is the thumbs down smiley? Atleast the vacation was nice with fishing and other attractions. Caught 2 over 10lbs one pushing 8 and alot of 3-5's along with some dinks.
  12. Yeah it was hard to walk by the 50 pack of Stik-o's for $9.99 and not buy a pack. Junebug color it was.
  13. Thanks man. They weren't jumbo like Iv'e seen and used before but around 5'' or so.
  14. Thanks. Yes thats the correct pic. All the fish were fat especially the monster that got off.
  15. This was on West Toho.
  16. Thanks guys.. yeah it was all on live shiners. The best way to target the giants although I would have liked to throw an assortment of artificials at them.
  17. Today I fished a half day at Lake Toho. It rained off and on the whole time but the bite was better than the guide expected. After just a few minutes fishing at the first spot we saw and heard a big bass blow up on the bait. I set the hook and started to wrestle the giant out of the thick grass. As the bass surfaced and went to change direction you could see it was huge..12lbs plus huge like a football. She was turning the boat slightly. Just as she was about 10ft away from the boat and made a strong attempt at hiding in a bunch of reeds she got off. I was highly frustrated. Either the hook wasn't in the thick lip section deep enough or popped out of the open pocket area. Who knows but that was the first hit of the day and a monster. Soon after the bite was pretty regular and caught a few doubles with one being 8lbs. There were a few pickerel and gar that hit the bait also. There was a front coming through and knew the bite wouldn't last long. I looked over at the reeds and saw the line going crazy , set the hook and started the tug of war battle. It felt like a nice one especially dragging her through the Toho grass. After netting her and getting her in she weighed 10lbs. Not soon after that thge bite slowed to just a couple fish before it was time to head back in. Caught about 15 fish.
  18. Thanks guys. This state is insane with the bass fishing. I fished Toho today and caught 15 bass with the biggest over 10lbs. I'll make another post for that.
  19. Congrats on that monster shad. The 10lber I caught today could probably choke it down.
  20. My wife and I are in Kissimmee Fl on vacation and I'm getting alot of fishing time in. Yesterday was the first day I got to fish and had a slowwww morning and didn't get any bites until the afternoon. I stopped at alot of neighborhood ponds and a few golf courses. Ended up catching 3 total with the biggest close to 3lbs. Today I set out in a different direction and the first few ponds didn't produce anything until I got to the gold mine. I was throwing a River2Sea rig walker swimbait along the bank and felt a nice hit. After getting her in she was about 3lbs and fat. A few more long casts into the middle and halfway back in it hit like a freight train. The rod I'm using is puny for traveling purposes and didn't have much backbone trying to fight her in. When she was close to the bank I could see in the clear water that she was a hawg. It was tricky getting my scale and camera while holding her in my other hand. She was just over 10lbs and fat. I have 4 guided trips to do still. Can't wait to hit some big lakes.
  21. I'm going to be in Clewiston Fl. fishing the big O. in a week or so and was wondering if anyone has fished the Caloosahatchee canal in that area or any other pond near Clewiston. I'll have a few hours to spare the day before I am on the big O. Thanks for any advice.
  22. 1. 10lbs 6oz 2. 6'' Huddleston ROF 5 3. Neighborhood pond Orlando area
  23. Two bass over 13lbs in one year . Yeah I live in the wrong state. I'll be hunting for the big mamas again next month down there to try to get another bass on there trophy catch program.
