Christmas Eve & Day Swimbaits
Christmas eve I stopped at a few ponds for a short period and threw swimbaits. After a few casts along the bank with a 6'' hudd in perch color a nice bass snatched it up. Just as it was close to my feet the braid somehow failed and lost a 4lber. Next I tied on a rig walker and threw it in the same general area and when it was near the bank a decent bass partially came out of the water for it. Last bait I threw was a 6'' reaction strike swimbait and caught a few on that. Today I hit a neighborhood pond and caught 2 right away on the rig walker before the pouring rain came.

Swimbaits
For a small 4inch swimbait I haven't used anything that works as well as the river2sea rig walker. Excellent tail action and doesn't require a heavy setup. Ive caught bass from under a pound to one over 10lbs on them. Give them a try.

Late December Swimbait Hawg
Thanks everyone. The last time out at one of the those ponds I threw a 6'' top hook Hudd and had several bass smacking at it but couldn't get them to get a good enough bite on it. I'll put some more time in with the 6'' and 68 special along with some other 7'' swimbaits to see if they eat them. They are really slamming the 4''.

Late December Swimbait Hawg
I'm on a mission to see how late into winter bass will hit various swimbaits that I'm throwing. Today I hit up a few ponds with a water temp of 46. After a few casts near the bank a big bass inhaled the 4'' swimbait. She was over 5lbs and very chunky. Action slowed so I stopped at another pond throwing the same swimbait and caught over a dozen within a half hour. I'm glad we have a warmer than usual December here.

Mr Double Digit. 30 Plus 10 Lbs Large Mouth
I need to fish with the guide who includes the shiners with his charter rate. All the guides Iv'e fished with in Fl. all charge separate fees for live bait used.

Check It Out: Bill Dance Says You Need To Harvest Pond/small Lake Bass
There's a pond about an hour from me that are friends of the family that is stunted in a big way. The fish have been established for over 20 years and it's overloaded with bass around a pound . Some a little bigger, alot that are smaller. 10 acre clear pond that ranges from 10-27ft deep and Iv'e caught bluegill on crankbaits not meaning to that were 2lbs. It's a bit too far for me and I'm too busy to spend days and days to catch bass under 12 inches and take em outta there. Ironically I'll be fishing this pond Sunday to see if these dinks will eat a swimbait up to 8 inches.

Testing Out New Swimbaits
Thanks. It is kind of a swimbait/ lipless crank in one deal. The one i was fishing had a fast sink rate and the water was only 2-3ft deep so I was holding the rod tip way back as I was reeling it in to keep the trebles from grabbing everything on the bottom. The action is pretty good for how cheap the lure was. I may be fishing a clear quarry pond soon where I will try to get some video of the action.

Testing Out New Swimbaits
Sunday I headed out to a local hole to try out some new swimbaits I recently bought. A few weeks ago I lost a 5lber on a swimbait at the same pond so I went back to try to find her. I was throwing a Reaction Strike swimbait in the same area that the big girl got off and after a few casts the first bass of the day hammered it. It wasn't the big one I was looking for but was in the 4lb class. My other rod was rigged up with a War Eagle spinnerbait so I threw that along the bank and right when it got close a bass came up and smashed it. For some reason the 10lb mono broke during the process. That bass was around the same size as the first one. Time to respool that reel before heading out again. After losing the spinnerbait I threw the swimbait again and had numerous bass hit it but didn't stay on. Working my way down the bank resulted in 2 more bass on the swimbait. I'll have to get back there again soon and maybe find the bass with my spinnerbait.

Southern California Vacation Hawgs
Sherwood is only a mile or 2 away from Westlake. I might be heading out that way again in March and try to catch some pre-spawn hawgs.

Lake Castaic Lake Casitas
Those '' strippers'' need to find better customers. Good luck hunting those giant LMB. Any pics of the 14.6?

Southern California Vacation Hawgs
Thanks. The last time i fished Castaic was January 2014 and got skunked. Not like it used to be.

Mr Double Digit. 30 Plus 10 Lbs Large Mouth
Nice hawgs you're catching. I don't know about the lack of giant bass in Florida but the last 2 times on vacation there I caught 4 or 5 over 10lbs and that was just in the Orlando area. Way more big bass than my home state for sure. Not even comparable.

Big Baits
The big baits for big bass theory isn't true all the time. A few days ago I caught 2 bass over 8 and one over 6 on a 4'' wacky worm within a few hours on the same lake. I'll still throw 8'' swimbaits on occasion though.

Southern California Vacation Hawgs
Thanks. My best 5 from Westlake would have been 27lbs. Casitas is nothing like it used to be according to a few guides. It's on the upswing with the trout plants but both private lakes fish much better.

Southern California Vacation Hawgs
My wife and I were in SoCal for a week for her business stuff and I hit up several lakes while out there. The first of 4 trips was at Westlake which is a private lake. I fished it from the bank last October and caught a few 2lbers and saw two giant bass come from under a dock that wanted nothing to do with my roboworm. This time from a boat I was throwing small swimbaits and 4'' wacky senkos. Within a few minutes the first bass was caught on a rig walker swimbait. Soon after I switched over to a 4'' green pumpkin senko and was throwing it around the same dock where I saw the hawgs last year. I felt a heavy tug on the line and reeled in the slack and set the hook hard to feel a big bass peeling line off my reel. I worked her in to the boat letting her take line when she wanted. There was no quit in this big bass. When she finally surfaced near the boat I knew it was my biggest bass so far ever from Ca. It was 8 and a half pounds. I continued to throw the senko at docks and open water and caught 2 more hawgs. Another one over 8lbs and one over 6lbs. It was frustrating and insane to see 6-10lb bass swimming around various docks and ignoring the bait you threw at them. A bunch of 1-3 lb bass were caught on senkos also. The next day I fished Lake Sherwood, another private lake. Started off throwing poppers and it was very productive. Between senkos and poppers around 25 bass in the 2 and 4 lb class were caught. The next trip was a few days later at Lake Casitas. I fished it 2 years ago and the water level was really low but even worse now. Started off throwing a dropshot with a roboworm. The first taker hit it right away in 15fow. A chunky 2lber. The wind was breezy all day with off and on heavy rain with water temps that dropped 7 degrees in a short period. I switched between a dropshot and a chatterbait depending where we were. There were a few hits on the chatterbait that didn't stay hooked. Ended up catching a 5lber on the dropshot before calling the trip short. The next trip was an afternoon trip back on Lake Sherwood. The bass boil up on shad in the back near the dam in the early evening and I wanted to see what it was all about. After catching a few on poppers in the main lake area we headed back to the dam. There were blowups all over at a certain time like someone flipped the switch. You couldnt keep up with where they were going to blowup next but when I threw the popper in the same spot it usually resulted in a bass. Most bass were in the 3-5lb range with some 1-2's mixed in. I threw a walking bait and caught a bass the same size or maybe smaller than the bait. Not sure what he was thinking. That place is a popper factory. I had a few hours to spare one day before dinner with my wife and bank fished Westlake. I threw a small swimbait and worms. One small bass was caught on the swimbait. After watching dozens of real small bass follow my worm in but couldn't eat it I was ready to leave for my dinner plans. As I was organizing my baits I saw a nice bass come out from under a pontoon boat . I threw a rage tail cut-r worm right in front of her and could see her go down to pick it up. A quick hookset changed her direction right away. It was in the upper 4lb range. The whole trip was full of action and can't wait to get back in the area again. One of the 8's were barely hooked. Alot of hawgs roaming around under docks.

The Most Expensive Lure You Lost
In the spring I bought a Huddleston Bluegill not during there $25 run they had. Paid more than double and fished it in a pond where 4+ lb pickerel are. Didn't think of using a steel leader and on the first cast next to a laydown something big whacked the bait and I immediately set the hook only to have nothing but braid dangling in the air. That new bait wasn't in the water for 5 seconds and was gone. A leader was used on the next Hudd Gill that I used in there.

Milfoil
I don 't know if this is the type of grass you're talking about but in one of the ponds I fish it's all over the place and some areas right up to the surface where working a buzzbait isn't possible.
