  1. I am looking at the IMX Pro MBR 6'6 Medium and IMX Pro 6'8 Medium Topwater for throwing small poppers like the Megabass Pop-x and Rio Rico. Line will be 30lb braid. Does anyone have experience with these rods? What would you recommend? Also open to other rod suggestions
  2. Check out the Kistler Crank rip twitch rods. I have the 6'9 MH that is extremely versatile. I throw jerkbaits, cranks, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatterbaits, poppers, spooks, and whopper ploppers on mine. I throw 10-12lb mono or fluorocarbon for jerkbaits and cranks. 12-15lb mono for poppers. 18lb fluoro for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. and 30lb braid for spooks and ploppers
  3. Stick with Gamakatsu
  4. Megabass 110 Megabass 110+1 Lucky Craft Pointer
  5. 6'6 Medium Kistler KLX Crank/Rip/Twitch. It is rated as a mod/fast but is actually fairly stiff with a good amount of tip to cast and work a jerkbait. This rod is also good for small crankbaits, poppers, and finesse plastics.
  6. I am in search of a 6ft 1 piece UL for crappie fishing. My budget is $150. I plan on using this rod for casting road runners and maribou jigs. Any recommendations?
  7. Zoom speed craws are a solid choice. I fish these mainly on smaller finesse jigs. Berkley Havoc pit boss RI sweet beaver
  8. Save yourself some money and stick with Red Label
  9. 10.5" zoom plum ol' monster or a drop shot
  10. In my experience, small poppers will get more bites and will catch the big ones as well. I like the 1/4oz yellow magics and pop x
  11. This bait gets a lot of strikes but i struggle with the hook up ratio. The tail seems to take up a lot of the gap on the hook resulting in missed fish. Not worth it IMO
  12. Winter: hair jigs or finesse jig with pork trailer, jerkbaits, flat sided balsa crank baits, drop shot. Spring: jerkbaits, jigs, spro little johns, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, poppers, drop shot, senko Summer: 10" Ol' Monster, drop shot, jig, frog, squarebill, chatterbait, spinnerbait, popper, spook Fall: spinnerbait, chatterbait, crankbait, underspin, jig, spook, popper, flukes
  13. ^^What he said Learn to tie leaders if you don't know how to already. I recommend the albright knot for its simplicity.
  14. Likely a spool bearing that is bad or in need of cleaning. To fix, try soaking the spool bearings in simple green or lighter fluid. Spin them dry and listen for a grinding noise. If you hear a grinding noise, try to soak the bearing again. If you can't get the bearing to run smooth I recommend looking into Boca Bearings for a replacement set.
  15. Kistler KLX Crank, Rip, Twitch 6'9 MH Moderate fast. http://www.kistlerrods.com/store/fishing-rods/klx-fishing-rods/klx-fishing-rods/crank-rip-and-twitch-rods/klx-crank-rip-and-twitch-medium-heavy-6-9-fishing-rod.html#.V28DTctOnqA
  16. Really like their poppers. Nice looking paint jobs and good hooks.
  17. Thats my mount! Personally, I think he did an outstanding job. It looks just like the largemouth from the clear strip pits here in Southeast Kansas. Outdoors Indoors by Bruce Jameson
  18. Caught a two pounder with a 16" snake one time.
  19. Look up the miller knot or worlds fair. Both have the tag end facing down.
  20. If you are just starting out tying leaders I would recommend the Albright because of its simplicity. Make sure you test your finished knot before you get on the water and end up breaking off on a hookset. The smaller lb test the leader the more wraps you will need.
  21. I'm looking to buy a new ML spinning rod to throw drop shot/split shot rigs. My budget is $250.
  22. Small. I love fishing strip pits!
  23. The majority of the time it's just me and my dog. I also like to go with my twin brother when we get the chance.
  24. As others have suggested the zebco 33 is a great starter reel. I would also recommend looking at Daiwa underspins. They're just as easy to use and will get him ready to make the jump to a spinning reel when the time comes.
