  1. I'll second the Bantam. I have a Curado 200E5 and I feel that the Bantam is a step up from that. In the 6.3:1 ratio it should be the ticket. If your thinking smaller crankbaits like 5XD size and under the Tranx 200 would be a less costly alternate. Fishingmickey
  2. Where I work we have to battle the paper wasp's and hornets. It's a bakery so we are prohibited from having insecticide around. We started using Dawn dishwashing soap and water mixed about 80% water/20% Dawn. One of the cheap super soakers squirters and a half of a five gallon bucket can knock down a lot of nests for really cheap. It is better hunting early when it is cool and they are all on the nest and less active. FM

  6. Those rods are things of beauty! Love that carbon fiber handle and the detailed cork grips are awesome too! Are they for sale? FM
  7. Servus makes a good rubber boot. It's used a lot in the meat packing industry.
  8. You got it right! The Bantam in the schiznit and a d**n fine reel. I have been converting most of my flock over to Bantam's and Scorpion MGL's. Currently running three Bantam's and four Scorpions. FM
  9. Couple of quick questions. Did you put any backing on the reel before spooling? I usually fill my baitcasters about half way with some cheap mono backing before switching over to braid. It allows me to fill two reels with 75-100 yards of braid. As Jigman commented above I do go lighter then 50#. I usually use 30 or 40# braid unless it is a punching or frogging set-up. Then I use 65# braid. Good luck, Fishingmickey p.s. Braid birdnests can be really ugly.
  10. G-Flex epoxy from West marine is made for plastics. I have used it on a couple of repairs with good success. Here is a hilarious video showing the strength of the repair. FM
  11. The Curado 70 is a fine reel IMHO and is being closed out. Tackle Warehouse has them going for 160. FM
  12. It was mentioned earlier, night fishing. I'd go the night fishing route or go very early in the morning and be off the water when the crowds start showing up. You might give a small popper a try. Like the Rebel Pop-r or try a floating Rapala minnow (F07 or F09 size) twitched on the surface or slow retrieve under the surface.
  13. Heddon Dying Flutter in baby bass coloration cedar top water double prop bait.

  19. Good deal on the Presidents, solid spinning reels. I'd get the Lew's if I had to pick one of the baitcasters. FM
  20. I'm going to swing by Cabela's today and see if they have some of the PQ rods in stock. Fingers crossed hope I like'em. FM
  21. Has anyone tried the St Croix Triumph travel rods? How do you like the Extreme's Allen? FM
  22. Howdy, I'm in the market to replace my travel rods. I had a couple of the Fenwick methods 5 pc. spinning and baitcasting rods that had the extra tip and mid section to change between medium and medium heavy. I had one of the Omen 13 and a Daiwa Arid travel rod. Someone decided they liked them more then me. I'm hoping to find some good quality replacements with case without dropping too much coin. I'd like them to be under a couple of hundred. One hundred to one fifty is more ideal. What have you guys found that works for you? Thanks in advance, Fishingmickey
  23. I'm a lefty righty too. Baitcaster never changes hands and spinning I do change hands with the rod when I cast. FM
  24. Hi Louie, Welcome to BR!. At 3/4 oz (not including the plastic bait I assume) your at the upper end of a MH rod's range. Some brands may be able to handle that just fine especially if your not trying to bomb or long cast your lure. Most MH's are rated between 3/4 and 1 oz. Adding a bait and hook with a 3/4 oz weight will likely put you at or over 1 oz. Bottom contact baits like your asking about using a fast to xfast action rod is preferred. Using a heavy bait on that type of rod would put more stress on the tip of the rod. All of that of course is subject to personal opinion and and brand of rod. If it were myself I would consider dropping the weight size down to 3/16 or 1/4 no more then 1/2 oz and after bait and hook you'd be much closer to 1/2 oz and in the sweet spot range of the rod. Great first post! Fishingmickey
  25. I had/have an old friend that use to use spin casters. Not sure if he is still alive but if he is he would well over 100. He was a heck of bass fisherman and he is the one that got me started fishing tx rigged worms for bass at night. We worked the evening shift together. He had a old 16' wide john boat with a 25hp Kekoffer Mercury on the back. We'd fish the dam on a power plant lake at night that was lighted with street lights about every fifty yards. We caught a bunch of bass. Now as far as skipping. With a 6' pistol grip rod and a spincast reel. He could skip a t-rigged worm into tight spaces as good as the pro's do now. Fishingmickey
