  1. I have several rods of both brands. I really like the SC Mojo Bass rods. IMHO they are excellent for the price point. I have a couple of the Sierra and a couple of the Kayden rods from Dobyns. I like both of them. I have picked up, wiggled and felt the Fury in Academy. I thought and felt like it was a heavy rod, definitely entry level. Nothing wrong with it per say. Quality of build looked good. I just didn't like the rod. Fishingmickey
  2. All time top producer - 1/2 oz Chartruse R2Sea bling spinner bait. Worm - all time 3/16th oz T-rigged 7" pumpkinseed power worm. Current nod has been a 5" KVD fat baby finesse in Blue fleck, Tequila sunrise or Dirt on a 3/16 oz Owner finesse ballhead jig.
  3. I like the 5/16th oz for deeper water too. I also use a 1/4 oz quite a bit too. A lot depends on worm size. if I am fishing a smaller worm like 5" finesse. 3/16ths oz is fine for up to 15' - 18' or so. 8"- 9" worms I step it up to at least a 1/4 oz. I try to use the lightest weight I can and still be able to keep good contact and get a good sink rate with my bait. FM
  4. Hi Brett, I'm really close to your size also. your really close to the suggested weight limit of the kayak. My first kayak was also a 10'er. I dumped it a couple of times. What you really have to be careful of is getting your weight to far outboard (like stretching to net a bass). once your get your weight far enough outside or off of center line the kayak will squirt out from underneath you like a soap dish. Go out your first couple of times and practice capsize drills before the water temps drop too much. Get some rod floats and make sure anything you really like is in either a water proof dry bag or it will float. It is also good to tether them to the boat if your river fishing. If your fishing when it is cold or the water is cold and your far from the car pack that spare set of clothes and maybe something to start a fire into a dry or waterproof bag and stow it in the hatch or bunged down. Last but not least wear your life jacket w/whistle in pocket and file a float plan with your wife or with a friend if she is coming along. Good luck, Fishingmickey
  5. I have both the Curado 70 and the Bantam. Both are very nice reels. The Bantam is rock solid and a joy to cast. The Curado 70 is sweet just not as sweet as the Bantam. FM
  6. Thanks Mike, Three on the way. Fishingmickey
  7. You might try recruiting a friend to hold the rod while you heat the tip top and pull with a pair of needle nose. I'd use a lighter for heating. You might see (possibly) glue ooze out when you get it hot enough. It shouldn't take a lot of force. Just exert some pull pressure with the needle nose while you heat. The other thought is to use a Dremel type grinder w/cutting disc or very fine toothed saw and cut off the old tip. It would shorten the rod by half an inch or so maybe but you would still have a very serviceable rod in the end.
  8. Ok Ravox, I am kind have the feeling that your having mostly sensitivity issues. With braid being very limp. When there is slack in a braided line it will not transmit anything until it is taut/tight to the lure. Fluoro is the most sensitive/strike detectable overall in my book unless I am fishing tight lined braid. Mono being second and braid (when slack) last, when it is tight to the lure or weight it is probably the best. I'm thinking that you may being fishing T-rigged senkos weightless. With any of the three lines you need to learn what a bite feels like. Try to keep in contact with your bait. When you run it into brush, weeds or rocks. You'll learn to tell that you did it. When a bass or any other fish for that matter hits it. It feels like something "alive" hit it. Once you figure out how to tell that "feeling" difference. You'll be well on your way to becoming a much better fisherman. FM
  9. I have several Mojo bass rods. Both casting and spinning. I think they are an excellent value and very nice rods for the bucks. It should be very "sporty" catching decent sized Peacocks and 5lb and up Largemouths on the medium power rod. FM
  10. Sell it or maybe donate it to a Wounded warriors chapter or something along those lines? FM
  11. I haven't fished Webber yet. I was very pleased with China lake last year. Several largemouth and smallmouth in the 3-4lb range. Quite a few smaller and some pickerel. Had 20-30 fish days. I got about 2.5 days of fishing in on China. FM
  12. Welcome aboard Dave! Spent much time on China lake yet? My sweetheart and I have been making a annual trip up to the Belgrade lakes area for the last several years. We usually go the week after Labor day. I don't think it is in the cards this year. FM
  13. Just some added bling for him to show off to his buddies. FM
  14. Welcome to BR! I have a "Tin cup" that is very similar to yours. Fishingmickey
  15. I've gotten my last two Garmin's from the GPS store. FM
  16. Now RW the question is do you rig the Structure Bug vertically or horizontally? FM
  17. I second that emotion. 2 pc. Mojo for the win. FM
  18. Frogs, You might want to search You tube for a video on how to remove a hook from deeply hooked bass from the side through the gills. I have done it several times. I use my fingers and very carefully go in and get the round part of the shank under one of my middle fingers. Then using the other finger push the eye of the hook down deeper into the fishes throat. This rolls the hook over my finger and doesn't pull the guts out of the bass. Almost always the hook will come free with little or no bleeding. Hope this helps in the future! Also hearty congratulations on your PB! 7.5 lbs for Ohio is a very serious fish! Fishingmickey
  19. Plawren is spot on. Heavier Fluoro ( 10# or over) on spinning reels sucks for me too. I had a lot of line slap ( lines slaps against the rod between the reel and first guide) and it likes to keep coming off of the reel after the lure hits the water. Yes, you can hand feather it and prevent this from happening then hand close the bail. Going with a coploy or mono would be better IMHO. Braid with leader means you need to get good with your knot tying and it provides another possible failure point. You have a excellent spinning combo BTW. Yozuri hybrid tests way above it's rated test. Not sure about Sufix Advance. Sufix has great reviews. Berkley XL or Big game is a good cheap mono. Good luck! FM
  20. This>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>^^^^^^. Five is about the max number of rods per bundle.
  21. The Shimano Sellus is or was a pretty decent rod for the buck. I have a couple of the older ones white ones (probably 15 model) that I like. I also have a couple of Halo spinning rods thast I really like, The Halo daylight II model looks like a pretty decent rod for 70 and they have a couple of decent reviews on TW. FM
  22. He needs a fresh fig leaf. Beautiful photo Burr!
