  1. I've had great success with them when the conditions are right. Most memorable was on vacation in Maine. Numerous northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth is was golden that morning. The pike were between 24 - 36", largemouth I had a couple that were in the 4-5lb range.. smallies went 2-3lbs. FM
  2. Fill the bottom quarter of half of the spool with mono for backing then put your braid back on. FM
  3. Lunker, I may have the box your looking for... I'll check later on this evening when I get home. Fishingmickey
  4. Ok, after reading through this entire post. I'm not sure if I should set myself up for this or not. I carry fifteen rods on my kayak. It's a PA14 I have three, three rod holders on three sides of a milk crate. In front of that crate I have a 19qt Engel cooler with four more holders on it. So thirteen vertical and I carry two horizontal in the Hobie storage tubes. I will usually have tied on a spinner bait, Chatterbait or two, Underspin, topwater something, three crankbaits (differing depths or sizes). I'll have several (4-5) soft plastic's rigged up, weightless and T-rigged and a couple of jigs. A spinning rod or two usually fills out the arsenal. Flame away and yes I do carry too much but I like it that way. Fishingmickey
  5. You might also check out the NuCanoe models. It's supposed to be easy to transom mount a trolling motor. They also have a 360° swivel seat accessory available. https://www.nucanoe.com/nucanoe-frontier/ Good luck in your search! FM
  6. I also concur, it is right in the Curado 70's wheelhouse. FM
  7. I'd love to come play on "the bend" with ya! FM
  8. This is what I have been using for the last eight months. Pricy, but made for Kayak fishing. Weight is 1.16 lbs. IP67 rated. FM
  9. I haven't bought many reels from Ebay. I have bought a few (8-10) direct from Japan. Site's like Japanangler, Plat and Digitaka. Usually pretty speedy delivery and have been pleased with my purchases. FM
  10. Hi Dave, I've fished all of the lakes you've listed. Choke canyon, I have heard is coming back strong. It flooded in 17 after a long bad drought and it is becoming like a new lake again. Canyon lake supposedly has hydrilla now. It has been a very clear, deep water, timber and rock limestone lake for the last 30 years. Braunig and Calaveras are power plant lakes. They aren't much for Bass anymore. back in the 80's and 90's they were awesome. They have stocked fresh water Redfish and Hybrid stripers stocked. The Red's are serious fun to catch. I go maybe a couple of times a year to them. It used to be run by SARA (San Antonio River Authority). CPS the public utility owner sold/contracted the access/concession rights to a private company. River trails or Unhappy trails and they have jacked up the entry/launch/camping fees ($17 to launch/fish my kayak) through the roof and have spent little to no moneys on improvements. I do most of my fishing around Austin. Numerous lakes around there too. That about all for now. Regards, Fishingmickey
  11. Howdy neighbor, Yes, it is worth it, Go with the 93 if you can swing it. if you have any other questions feel free to ask. Fishingmickey
  12. Mike, I have several of both the Sierra and Mojo Bass. Sierra's in MH and H and Mojo's in M, MH and a M spinning. I really like all of them. I feel the Mojo is probably one of the best bang for the buck rods out there. The Sierra's are light and very nice rods for thier price point. X2

  14. Yes, you did get the name of our state fish right! I have caught many Guadalupe bass. A couple of them may have even been close to the state record. Since your going to be in the Austin area. The LOCO (lower Colorado river) is a excellent place to catch large Guadalupe bass, The state record was caught in 2014 from there. I've attached a link to the article. https://allwaterguides.com/news/2014/2/26/press-release-new-state-record-guadalupe-bass-caught Regards, Fishingmickey
  15. Welcome aboard FlyK, Maybe we will see you at some of the upcoming BASS/BOS events! I'm going to try to attend a few of each this year. Fishingmickey
  16. By definition IMHO "slow rolling" was usually referring to spinner baits (3/4 - 1 oz weight). Cast them, let them sink to the bottom and then retrieving them very slowly just off/or bumping the bottom. I don't see any reason it would be any different for the chatterbait. The slow rolling technique can be deadly for both baits. FM
  17. If you can't get the Shimano, You might think about a 7' MH/F St. Croix Mojo Bass or a Dobyn's Sierra 7' MH/F. I feel both of those rods are excellent bang for the buck rods every bit as good as the Clarus. I haven't fished a SLX. FM
  18. I've got mine in my Hobie PA14. I do use the touch screen almost exclusively. FM
  19. Another site to check is The GPS store. Here is the link for the Striker 7SV w/transducer. Might even be cheaper w/black friday sale. FM https://www.thegpsstore.com/Garmin-STRIKER-Plus-7sv-with-Transducer-P5421.aspx
  20. Right there with you Big Bass! FM
  21. Daubs, I have a Garmin Echomap plus 93sv UHD on my kayak. Side view works just fine at lower speeds. You do have to be moving for it to work well. Sideview is pretty cool technology. It really helps in finding underwater cover and structure. If this is the unit your looking at: Garmin Echomap plus 73sv UHD. It has both clear view and side view imaging. Not to mention Chartplotting and 2D sonar. Another plus it is Panoptix live scope capable if you decide to go that route. FM
  22. Welcome aboard Jon, We have a pretty strong kayak bass fishing scene in the Austin area. Hope to see you at some of the events! Several facebook groups that have good information on them for area events. Not sure if KATS is going to come back this coming year or not. KATS is sponsored by ACK (Austin canoe and kayak). It has been serious fishing competition for around 14 years or so. With the Flying Dutchman handle I gotta ask. Do you sail also? Fishingmickey Fishingmickey
  23. I have gone the JDM route. The Shimano Bantam or the 20 Metanium's are the best I have found period. I have a mixture of rods. Kistler Argon or their new Graphite are super light and sensitive. I've got several Argons and a couple of the Graphite's. I have several of the other Kistler's. Mag2, Helium3, KLX and KLX feel and reel. I'd love to get a Zbone or two one of these days but I can't justify the price for them. I've gotten my Argons and Graphites on sale. 150 for the Argon and 120 for the Graphites. Spinning reels, Stradic, Ultegra and Diawa Luvias are in the quiver. FM
  24. They are too small. 3/8 or 1/2 oz River2sea bling 1st choice, Booyah same weights, second choice. Color is Chartruese, White or Chartruese and white. IMHO. FM
