Swearing at Swimbaits
Over four or four out of the San Marcos river is a very respectable bass. You might try hitting some of the Austin lakes (Travis, Lake Austin or Lady Bird). The Colorado River chain lakes (LBJ & Buchanan) do produce some very respectable bass 6,7 & 8's. Don't forget Decker or Walter E. Long as it is known by now. Good luck! Fishingmickey p.s. Fayette county lake isn't far away either.

S.S. Amoeba has been sunk!
Well Tom, since I didn't spell it out for him. I figured that you might be able to cut the patches into the proper size for the hole before applying them.....Getting thus four to maybe six patches out of the 3" x 6" or maybe even ten to twenty patches out of the 9" x 12" . It's good Tom! I wasn't thinking along your lines. Fishingmickey Oh, and the cutting would take place indoors out of the UV light. I'd almost be willing to bet I'd spend less then a hundred bucks on patch material.

You might want to look into this Jedi, I've heard good things about gator guard in the kayaking relm. Kayak micro power pole
I've got the micro power pole on my kayak and it works great in water that is six feet or less. It has a 8' stake but at least a foot to foot and a half is sticking above the water line when all the way extended. It's good for working lily pad fields and grass flats. It can be a life saver when it is windy and you want to work a particular stretch. FM p.s. it is also good when you just want to stop and re-rig, eat lunch or respond to the call of nature.

Random question
Recent learning experience for me, KBF and BASS allow electric trolling motors up to 3hp. If your kayak has a hp motor rating of 1hp you can not use a 3hp motor on it. Several brands do have hp ratings. If your kayak has no horse power rating your good for up to 3hp. Hobie is in the process of updating the hp requirement for the PA line to 3hp. When they paired up with Torqueedo and came out with the Evolve option (1hp motor drops into the pedal drive slot) a couple of years back. that is where the rating came from for Hobie. Fishingmickey

Garmin 73sv not powering on
You might check the fuse in the power cord first and see if it blew. Check your battery voltage too. Good luck! Fishingmickey

lithium batteries
I have had it out a few times so far and haven't gotten enough stick time experience to tell you how long it will last. it will push my loaded down PA14 at 6mph full throttle. Like all trolling motors if you run it at full throttle it sucks the battery down quick (fourty five minutes to a hour maybe a hour and a half I'm guessing). Now if you back off the throttle it will last a much longer time. You can probably run it at 1/3 - 1/2 speed and get a full day's fishing out of it. The 1103 is rated at 3hp and a 115#'s thrust. Honestly it made me giddy when I took it out for the first time and opened it up. Yaaah it was serious fun! Fishingmickey

Knot for Braid Straight to Hook?
Palomar knot for braid, improved clinch for Fluoro or Mono. IMHO do not used the improved clinch on braid. FM

lithium batteries
I just recently purchased a Torqueedo 1103 ultralight for my Kayak. It came with their 915w (watt) 29 volt battery. I don't think I can run other batteries with it. It has it's own remote throttle/ display that includes range and percentage of charge left. Here is the specs for the battery. Casting Reel Sizes
Another thing to remember is there is a big difference in line sizes at a specified pound test from different manufactures. A for instance would be: Seaguar Tatsu 15# @ .013 vs Berkley Big Game 15# @ .015 vs Yozuri Hybrid 15# @ .016 vs Sun line Defier Amarilo 15# @ .0126.

Rostertails are underrated 100%
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the Abu Reflex. Abu Garcia's answer to the in-line spinner.

Pinewood Derby Time!!!
Make sure you get it weighed and add enough weights to get to the max weight ( I let my stepson use 1/8, 1/4 and 1/2 oz egg weights). I drilled holes to insert the egg weights into the body. Get some dry graphite lubricant for the wheels and polish ( very fine grit sand paper) the axles before you install them. Make sure you have the weighting balanced between the front and back wheels. Good luck!

Fishing in "the old days"
I started fishing at the early age of five or so. Our family used to race small sailboats (I still do). The place was Lake Opecka in one of the suburbs of Chicago. I would have to wear my life jacket (long before the term PFD was coined). I would use a hand line and popcorn to catch Bluegills that were hiding under the docks. If I was lucky I had some nightcrawlers or red wigglers to use for bait. My older brothers have brought it up later in life that mom used to comment that a nickle bag of popcorn would keep me going for hours. Fishingmickey

Dobyns Kaden rods, anyone got an opinion yet?
I like both of mine so far. Had them out a couple three times and they have performed well.

Fluorocarbon what do you use?
I don't think it is just Sunline FC. It is all fluorocarbons for spinning. Fluoro is too stiff and has too much memory for use on spinning reels (in my opinion). It likes to fly off the spool in large coils and continues coming off even after the lure has hit the water especially when freshly spooled. It slaps against the rod during the cast and really hates line twisting. That I believe is why your getting a lot of recommendations for braid to fluoro also. Good luck, Fishingmickey

Downsizing Your Arsenal
I probably carry more rods then almost any kayaker. I like having fifteen set-ups ready to go. I do fish a fair number of tournaments and it is really nice to be able to switch gears without having to re-tie. Yes, I have a problem, but I think it is a good problem to have. I have learned how to keep them organized and very seldom run into tangling issues or keeping them sorted. I probably have about forty set-ups. Half a dozen heavy swimbait type Curado 300EJ's & a Tranx. 20 MH rigs with most of them having 15lb fluoro and the others 30 lb braid. I have about five BFS type set ups in bait casting. 6 or so Spinning rigs. Fishingmickey

The Lingo of Fishing
Probably just about as much as I hate hearing the description "Ripping Lips". I'm sure there is no better way to arm the PETA crowd then to have someone's overheard conversation about how they ripped the lips off of a fish being used to describe how they caught a bass.

The Lingo of Fishing
I dunno if I got her hooked good after throwing a turd in her bed and she picked it up then I crossed her eyes. If I can just keep this Hydrilla gorilla money fish pinned and it's in the mouth it will be a serious cull. FM

can i use mono for single hook baits
Not a clue on the lumens, They were pretty cheap lights from the early days of Walmart. I think they were about 12-15 bucks for a 12" bulb w/ two suction cups.

can i use mono for single hook baits
I fished 14# Berkley XL clear blue florescent monofilament for many years. It is great for the night fishing with one of the black lights stuck to the side of the boat. Made it look like rope and very easy to line watch for the bite. Thanks, reminds me I need to get back into night fishing again this summer. Fishingmickey
