  1. Braid can cut you very easily. hence the don't wrap it around your fingers or hands comments. 50lb and up would probably make a very nice garrote. Does a good job of slicing block cheese too. FM
  2. https://fishshop.shimano.com/pages/curado-dc Try there. FM
  3. I'd add a 4-6' mono leader to the braid. Probably 15-17# big game or something similar. It will help with problems with the braid fouling in the topwater lure's hooks on the cast. Braid is very limp and flexible the mono is much stiffer. And the mono floats too. FM
  4. I've also thought of using a strobe in addition to the 360 light on my kayak. I have two 20" Blue LED's mounted on my bow I use in low light conditions. The man was killed in a very high traffic area at the coast in Texas, I have not heard if the "power boater" turned themselves in. I believe the accident occurred early Saturday morning. FM
  5. I've been a long time fan of 14# Berkley XL in clear blue fluorescent. Amazing at night under a black light. I've used both the clear and green too. It seem like Berkley might be phasing out the clear blue fluorescent though. FM
  6. Swarming hornet's fish head spin is one of the best I've found (for me results wise). There are multitudes of others out there. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Underspins/catpage-SCXH5.html Probably 75 plus different underspins in that link. Good luck, Fishingmickey
  7. I think Bhoff has nailed it. Guides say spinning rod, length and size of the rod say surf caster. FM
  8. Whitearrow, It really sounds like dig-in. Where the braid from the previous cast was wound on tight enough to pinch itself into the deeper layers of braid. You cast hit that spot and it stops dead. Then you pull the line off and it comes right off because the cast pulled it out. You might try letting out a bunch of line and reeling your line back on under tension. This is so it is tightly wound on the spool. this should prevent the issue. FM
  9. If it were me. I'd go 2500/3000 with a medium/medium heavy fast rod and a 4000 with a heavy/fast rod for throwing those larger baits for big Musky or Northern. The smaller combo for baits up to 3/4-1 oz. The larger combo for fishing heavier lures and maybe big live bait set-up. FM
  10. jsh32, I'd suspect transducer mounting too. Especially if you were in rougher water. The kayak hull can flex and this would cause seal to be between the transducer and the hull to break. FM
  11. You might want to check or reverse your battery polarity. Another reason could be the in-line fuse is bad. i'm assuming it has one. Good luck, Fishingmickey
  12. Heavy jig, Heavy cover, minimum 50# braid. 3/4 oz -1/5 oz jig weight. probably go 65# for flipping and if it is super thick and gnarly maybe even 80#. Light cover lighter jigs 1/4 oz - 1/2 oz, 30-50# braid. I'd fish it straight braid either set up. FM
  13. Too big a bait on too little of a combo. FM
  14. Bring on the meat! Gotta love Texas Q! All different kinds, shapes and sizes of meat! FM
  15. No additional knots, cleaner subtle presentation.
  16. I've got several Kistler's (8-10). My favorite for spinner baits is the MH 6'10" mag2. I'm chunking 1/2 oz double willow leaf. The KLX feel & reel S2 (glass/graphite) hybrids are excellent for deep diving cranks too. FM
  17. Welcome WW, There is a plethora of bass fishing knowledge here! FM
  18. Another SLX fan here. I'd look at it in the 6.3:1 ratio. The medium action rod is going to limit you somewhat on spinner bait and crank bait sizes. Should be good for up to 3/8 oz spinners and mid-depth cranks (under 3/4oz). Strike King 5XD, Bomber 300's, SPRO 55RK's and Rapala's probably up to DT10. FM
  19. Noe, The Ambassadors are good reels and should be excellent for salmon, bass or larger trout (think steelhead). Might need some serious cleaning, lubrication and fresh line. I noticed you have a mix of left and right handed Ambassador reels. if you can learn how to use both it is a big plus. A number of the rods looked like they might need to be retired. Very short butts or what comes out of butts etc. It's really hard to say with out seeing them. Rod technology has come a long ways in the last 30 years. I'd separate your rods and reels, pick out your gems and see what kind of sensible combo's you can come up with. then I'd keep an eyeball open at Wal-mart for when the Berkley lighting or Berkley shock rods get put on clearance and you can usually pick them up for 20-30 bucks. Good luck and enjoy the diversity of the fishing there! I am jelly for sure. Fishing the PNW is on my bucket list. Fishingmickey
  20. 14-16# Mono or Fluoro. Trilene XL for the mono Sunline shooter for the Fluoro. I throw spinner baits a lot! Spinner of choice is 3/8-1/2 oz River2sea double willow. White, Chartreuse or the combo of the two. FM
  21. You can usually find the Frog Toggs at Wally world (Walmart). They stock both pant's and bibbs plus the jacket. I've got Huk's but I do have a friend that has a new set Frog Toggs and they are nice, very light weight and probably the coolest temperature wise to wear. In Texas it gets hot and I will probably have a second set of summer rain gear soon (frog toggs). Fishingmickey
  22. Like Largies said in the next post. I have also had problems with the 90 spinning to the point of I will not fish the 90. I don't have the spinning problems with the 75, 110 or 130 sizes. I feel that you do want to fish the plopper with either mono or braid with a mono leader. Fluorocarbon line especially on a long cast will sink too much and pull the nose down. if there is light chop on the water it will cause the plopper to submerge in the wavelets and spin. The 90 has a thinner body and especially if I retrieved it fast it would spin. Any kind debris (bit of weed or algae gunk) caught in the gap between the prop and the lure body will also contribute to the lure spinning. That applies to all sizes of ploppers. FM
  23. Your on a roll A-Jay! Absolutely beautiful Smallmouth. FM
  24. Hi Nicholas, I would think it depends on how heavy the lilly pads are. Small pads with thin stems you might be able to use a medium power rod just fine. If they are thick and heavy probably medium heavy to heavy would be better. FM
  25. You'll like the feel and reel. I have three of them. Kistler is having a 35% off sale right now. I saw the ad on face book last night. FM
