Do you use your spinnerbait rod for other types of lures?
You betcha I use my Spinnerbait rod for other uses! The Curado 51E is a sought after greenie! It is a excellent light bait reel and it sounds like you've got a good high quality rod matches it well. I think would be good/great set up for throwing weightless plastics (senkos, flukes and small swim baits), Finesse worms, Shaky heads, small light balsa cranks like a shad rap or smaller cranks and small square bills. Besides 3/8 oz Spinner baits and Chatter baits. FM

Fishing Industry Career
Outstanding Jbabs! Hope it becomes a launch of a great career for you. Remember the old saws. What you put into it is what you'll get out of it and people that never do anymore then they get paid for never get paid for anymore then they do. Drive that graphic's bus! Fishingmickey

Help/Advice on how much to sell a rod and reel
Hi Sig, You can try to sell it for whatever price you want. A lot depends on how fast you want to sell and then finding someone willing to pay that. Not sure what the retail is on the rod and reel combined. If you want it to move/sell you need to discount it at least a minimum of 20-30% off of retail. There is a much smaller pool of left handed baitcast users then righties. Which makes it even harder to find a buyer. There is a bunch of sales going on now. So if you really want it to move you might have to drop the price even more. Can you figure out a way to easily put it into your car? By maybe rolling the window down and feed it in reel first and set the butt of the rod on the top of the back seat? Good luck, FM

Plastic Worm Fishing
It seems like I went to the same school Catt did. I started fishing Texas rigged plastic worms back in the mid 80's. I was introduced to worm fishing by a fellow co-worker and friend. We fished Calaveras lake by San Antonio. We worked second shift and we'd go after work and we fished the dam at night. It was lighted with street lights about every 50 to 75 yards and prevailing winds were usually out of the south and over the dam. We fished 4" lucky strike ring worms black with a chartreuse tail. 1/8 oz bullet head with a 3/0 round bend straight shank hook was the rig of choice. We would have a second rod with a 1/4 oz rattle trap tied on. If one of us hung up in the rip rap. We'd slid in to unsnag it and the other angler that wasn't hung would be throwing that trap parallel to the bank. Always a lot of banter back and forth about most and biggest. If it was really windy we would move up to a 3/16th oz weight. We had some unbelievable nights and we very rarely ever saw any other boats. We buy the worms at Academy from the bulk bin I think they were .07 cents a piece. Very fond memories! Fishingmickey

Anyone got a good budget baitcast reel they like?
Shimano Caenen or one step up the Casitas.

Jerkbait rod what to use?
Fluoro sinks and your suspending bait might now not suspend as well or sink nose down. Really hard to say, different sized baits would react differently. Retrieve speed or length of pause would make a big difference too. Try different things. I'd try changing one thing at a time until you get something you like or the bass tells you you've got it right. FM

First time fishing kayak buyers...need some advice
Glaucus, Just make sure you get something that fits your size and has a good seat. If your a big guy the Tarpon 100 is not your boat and will let you know instantly that you got your center of gravity off center. If you get off center the kayak goes out from under you like a soap dish or stepping on a banana peel. Smaller shorter narrower cheaper kayaks can be dangerous especially if you haven't practiced capsize recovery in that kayak and learned your limits of stability. See if there is a kayak dealer near you that rents kayaks. Try before you buy if you can. If you go out in the winter time and the air or the water is cold flipping your kayak could have devastating results even with a life jacket on. Not trying to scare you or be a fear monger. There is also a thread on here about cold water survival that has a great video done. Good luck on finding you and your wife kayaks. Fishingmickey

Jerkbait rod what to use?
Try'em both, see which one works better for you. If your using the medium fast go with a lighter drag and try not to horse the fish so you don't "pull the hooks". If you can get the bait to "jerk" properly with your CB rod and you like it better use it. It also makes a difference what line your using. Mono provides some stretch which equates to give depending on what pound test you use would also help keep the fish "pinned" better. Tight lines, Fishingmickey

What Is Your Strangest, Unintended Catch
I saw a Heron was mentioned earlier. This spring I caught a great blue heron on a spinner bait. I was beating the bank and the heron flew up from behind some reeds and right into my line. It got tangled in my line just after I had made a cast. I managed to land the heron. Covered it's head with my jacket and untangled & unhooked him. I was in my kayak at the time and didn't know it at the time but one of the other guys fishing the tournament saw me catch the heron. It was joked afterwards at the weigh in on whether or not I should get the big bird award. I've also caught the usual plethora of turtles, clams. A couple rods and reels, one used to be a decent combo (Shimano Curado E50 on a St. Croix rod). I've been meaning to send the reel off to DVT and see if it is salvageable. Last but not least was a gill net (probably 20-30' long) I snagged it on a crank bait. Highly illegal in fresh water here in Texas. I notified the game warden and trashed the net. Fishingmickey

Want to try big game mono
Old timer... Humph young whippersnappers thinking we don't know nothing bout them new falooting high dollar expensive scientific lines.

Want to try big game mono
Yes, I think the XL is much more applicable for spinning then Big game. I myself personally would not go down to that low of a pound test on a bait caster (gonna get jumped for that comment). Bait casterfor me is 10lb and up, spinning 10lb and down. FM

Want to try big game mono
Tyler, Both are the XL and the Big game are good line and have been around for years. 15-20 years ago Berkely and Stren were the two major players in the fishing line market. The big game normally punches well above it weight class meaning 12 lb has a 15lb breaking strength and 15 lb may be 18-20#'s. The XL is also tests above advertised just not as much over as big game. Big game is more abrasion resistant and stiffer, XL is less abrasion resistant then big game but a more limp and manageable line. Both are very reasonably priced. Take the above for what it is worth if you decide to try some out. Tight lines, Fishingmickey
