Got a question about jigs??
I trim mine llike Brian said. Then I take my thumb and push the fibers forward towards the hook eye. This fans out the fibers. It seems to help keep the jig from getting hung up as much on those ocaasional times it may land on its side.

Favorite soft bait brand?
I voted for Zoom because like Rolo I use more kinds of them than anything. But as far as worms go I'd have voted for Culprit.

Great lure.........for some.
Thanks all you guys that said a spinnerbait was your worst. Now I don't feel so bad about never catching one on a rattle trap.(especially since there are a bunch of us out there. Maybe we should start an online support group."Hello....my name is Garry and I never caught a fish on a rattle trap." :'(

Great lure.........for some.
LOl' I've caught them on about every other crank, just the trap is the bane of my bass fishing existence.

Great lure.........for some.
Anyone out there have a lure that everyone else says works great for them, but you can't catch a fish on it by accident. Mine so far are the zara spook, zoom baby brush hog,and (I hate to admit this one) the rattle trap.Yeah never caught one on a rattle trap, what a sorry bass fisherman I must be. For the record though I'm still learning and I keep trying these lures.Especially the trap.

taking young children fishing
I take my son with me every trip.He just turned 5 in july. He's been fishing with me since he could reel a pole.Like everyone says start out with sunfish. You may have to help the first few hooksets then talk them through it as they gain experience. I remember his first bass like it was yesterday.Caught it on a nightcrawler and bobber. Now when we fish in the boat he has a few matchbox cars and some books to play with. Also I bought him one of those grab bags of soft plastics. He fishes and plays with them. Oh btw he's also the fastest net man in the business. If he sees the rod load up he can be from matchbox to net in half a second. Plus the look on his face when I trade him my rod for the net is priceless.

go to baits for windy conditions
Any of you have a particular bait that works well for you when it's choppy on the lake? I think mine is a big spinnerbait so far.Haven't had that much success in the wind though. :'(

First Bait after winter thaw?
I haven't lived where it froze for 7 years now.But when I did I fished small creeks and rivers.Usually started in late january early february. My favorite was a smoke purple fleck tube. And a brown hair jig with an Uncle Josh black kicker frog(not sure if they still make these.)If any of this still works there I dunno, lol.Just my .02. :-?

carolina shortcut
Anyone ever try the carolina shortcut rig from bass pro?Do they really save time or are they not as effective as a do-it-yourself c-rig? :-/

north florida fishin' holes
Anyone here fish around Lake City?I live just south of Live Oak.So far I've fished suwannee river, suwanee lake, ocean pond, watertown, alligator, lang, and eagle lakes. Anyone have any tips for any of these lakes?I've caught fish at most of them just wondering if something really catches them good and consistently at any of these locales, lol.

Really good spinnerbaits?
Terminator t-1 here too.The occasional mudfish in florida usually bends anything less beyond repair.

best performing frog/toad bait
Just wondering some opinions before I buy.I have some Zoom horny toads now and a couple XPS frogs. I'm looking at the stanley ribbits and the gambler cane toads.Anyone have any experience with these and how they perform? Feel free to include techniques and rigging options, lol.(this may reduce the learning curve for me.)

Whats the "tap tap"?
After watching a couple bass take my lure in clear water(and feeling the taps obviously)it seemed like the first tap he grabbed and the second tap he was getting a better grip and starting to turn with it.It also seemed thta when I get excited and set the hook on the first tap I usually pulled it away from them but if I could get myself to wait till the 2nd I hooked him pretty good.

depth/fish finder question?
Hey Gang, I have a tracker pro team 175(2007 model). The fish finder is a lowrance XCr-somethin' or rather.the depth finder reads the depth fine so long as you're not up on plane. Then it'll only display the last depth you were at before you took off until you slow down to idle speed again. My question is are there any ways to adjust the settings to get it to read better on plane?I know other peoples depth finders work on plane.Thanks.

HELP ME! First time river fishing.....
Try a rebel teeny wee crawdad in natural colors on light tackle.Throw upstream and reel it just fast enough to keep it from floating up.

Some thoughts on Bass Fishing
Ithink avid summed it up in a nutshell.I have to admire the pros for having the tenacity to make a career out of fishing, and the big bass fisherman like badhabit, not because they catch lots of fish or because they catch big fish, just because they get to fish almost anytime they want. That would be so awesome to be able to fish any or every given day by your choice.

Bailing out
I never bailed in but my dad did once.We were bank fishing and he set the hook and his line broke. He bailed in the water and retrieved the end of the line and pulled in about an 8 inch fall fish, lol.

Some bass are dumb
I agree with LBH and the others that the fish were probably spawning. But I also read or heard it on a fishing show somwhere that each one of the bass's eyes has it's own separate memory.for example the right eye knows that it just took a swipe at that white spinnerbait but the left doesn't know the right eye has already seen it when you throw it back again.I think the point they were making had something to do with making multiple casts to a fishy looking spot.Makes me wonder does one side of his lip have a separate memory from the other, lol?

heavy hydrilla tactics
I've had a little luck fishing hydrilla in 5 to 8 feet of water with about a foot of water on top of the hydrilla;I would cast a paddletail worm with an 1/8 oz bullet weight;count it down till it settled on top of the hydrilla and rip it back towards the boat similar to fishing a crankbait. The bites were a lot similar to fishing a spinnerbait in that the fish would just swamp it all of a sudden.I'm definitely gonna try the jig deal though Catt.

What would you do.
What is the water like? For example clarity (stained or clear) and the water temp roughly?
