Worth adding jackplate for installing Minn Kota Talons?
When I eventually buy a new boat I'd like to have dual Minn Kota Talons on it. The boat would most likely be something like a Ranger 621FS which a lot of people say don't need a jackplate. I was thinking about having a jackplate added for 2 reasons; one so that the keeps the motor farther away from the back seat angler and less chance of it getting scratched/hit which happened to my current boat and 2 because I could add the Talons without drilling more holes into the transom. A friend said that his friends have had some problems with Power Poles/Talons getting ripped off of the back of boats because they aren't using big enough washers or plates on the transom, I want to avoid this. So, would it be worth it adding a jackplate for this purpose? And, why isn't a jackplate necessary on a boat like this but it is standard on many bass boats? Would a jackplate negatively affect performance on a boat like the 621FS?

Braid bad for equipment?
+1 Power Pro. I've had it on my rods for over 8 years. I like Hi-Vis Yellow.

Anyone else experience this with the Whopper Plopper?
Yeah, but I've never had one hook a fish in the mouth and somewhere else on the body at the same time as the Whopper Plopper. I think it has to do with the hooks being so sharp. I used a KVD Sexydawg for nearly a decade, it's a similar length lure also with treble hooks, and it almost never foul hooked fish at the same time as mouth hooking them.

Using senkos, killing fish? And spinning setup
I've used both EWG wide gap hooks and now Owner Mosquito hooks with this tube setup and cannot recall ever killing a fish. I also use Hi-Vis yellow Power Pro braid which is easy to see.

Whopper Plopper what line and rods are you using for the different sizes?
I have 30lbs. Power Pro braid on all my baitcasters and 15lbs. Power Pro braid on all of my spinning rods and do well.

Shrink tubing
This is works great. But I did switch to Owner Mosquito hooks bc someone on here recommended them. Seem to work the same. Don't miss too many with this set up.

Whopper Plopper 110
My brother likes the 90 over the 110 and caught a lot on it.

Yeah, definitely not out throwing 8" Hudds or umbrella rigs. lol. I heard throwing umbrella rigs all day gets tiring also.

How would you fish this? Or would you?
Spinnerbaits wouldn't work well here? That's what I'd have tried but I've never even encountered anything like you have. lol.

I use the same rod for everything, a Cabelas casting frog rod which is heavy and made to be used with 1/4 to 1-1/4 ounce lures, #17-30lbs. line, and fast tip. I own the 90, 110, and 130 but I only use the 90 and 110. I don't throw the 130 because it's so dang big it's like throwing a musky lure. I stopped using it. No point in throwing that if the 110 and 90 are working. I always start with the 110 and only use the 90 when there are weeds that are near the surface that the 110 will catch when it lands. If you have a heavy enough spinning rod you could throw the 90 but I'd use baitcasting for the 110 or bigger.

Would like to see if you caught any fish.

Mercury 150 4stoke
Never heard of trailering the boat with the engine in drive to stop the propeller from moving. Hmmm.....

Who fishes from a boat vs. fishes from shore? - How does it affect what tackle you use?
Interesting. I did a ton of shorefishijg as a kid and rarely lost lures. Probably because I was casting straight out into the lake.

How does a smaller lure help? Easier to hook fish?

Who has the best Buzz bait???
I see that they have a new Clacker Cavitron. If I was using buzzbaits still I'd definitely get one of those!

Who fishes from a boat vs. fishes from shore? - How does it affect what tackle you use?
After watching a lot of poster's videos and seeing their pics I realized that quite a few people on here fish from shore. Oddly I just assumed that most people fished from a boat. Obviously that must change how many rods and how much tackle you can bring with you. Who fishes from a boat and who fishes from shore and how does it affect what tackle you use?

demolished my PBx2

Deep V Aluminum Boats
Well, some of the newer bass boats com with a deep v/semi-deep v hull for your lake types. I've always wanted a bass boat one I got into bass boats and now one of my biggest regrets. I used to fish 2 people a lot and a bass boat was great, but for some reason I fished 3 people a lot this year and a bass boat wasn't great for that. If you have a 21' footer it might be ok, but I don't like having people up front fishing with me. I've been hooked before by another fisherman and I don't like feeling crowded. Also, the way you sit in a bass boat takes up about 3' feet of space that isn't take up on a regular boat, so if you have a 19' foot bass boat you really have a 16' foot bass boat which is a waste of space. Another thing is if you get a cheaper boat like mine the seats won't be as comfortable taking bigger waves. I've felt like I was going to break my back on some waves. A multi-species boat can have a nice air-ride cushioned seat. I think you can get them on higher end bass boats too now. I think a deep multi-species will also have a lot more storage but could be wrong, I know A-Jay's boat has a ton of storage but I also think it has more of a deep-v hull. My old man always said the two best days of your boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it, so no problem, my next boat will be a multi-species.

It's the most regular and foul-hooked lure at the same time I've ever used, meaning one hook will be in the mouth like normal and another will be in the gut, head, gill plate; I think it has to do with the sharpness of the hooks which are super sharp. I'm talking largemouth only.

Who mainly uses the same lures every time they fish? - I'm down to the same 4 lures
I agree and I think if most fish are hungry they'll eat most whatever is put in front of them. Sure they can get finicky and changing size, color, or speed can help but usually hungry bass will eat what's put on their plate. I test test this theory some times. If a friend is catching them on a Whopper Plopper I'll try a buzzbait, if a friend is catching them under docks with Wacky Rigged Senkos I'll try a Zoom Super Fluke to see if they'll hit similar baits and usually bass will hit my lures too.

Cool. Thanks. I actually have those baits and will try it.
