  1. A year ago I owned 1/2 a dozen GLX rods and today I only have one. I'm with Raul on this one. All gimmicks, latest craze and marketing hype aside, there is no better rod for the money than a Loomis IMX. Custom blank (I have 5 of them) or factory built rod, you cannot go wrong with the IMX. JMHO Ronnie
  2. Sorry, you just can't flip without a Jig. Look at the answers to your original question. More than half of responders can't seem to flip with out some kind of jig. LOL BTW - For me, my favorite for flipping & pitching (other than jigs) is an Arkie jig with Uncle Josh Black Widow Eel. ;D Ronnie

Welcome to the best forum on the net! Ronnie
  4. Uncle Josh has the best jig trailers on the planet. IMHO. Only thing better than a #11 frog is a Black Widow Eel. My top three PB were caught with an Arkie Jig and U.J. eel. And yes, I have used nearly every plastic trailer you can think of. JMHO Ronnie
  5. An effective and easy way to organize by depth is use a marker or label maker and put the running depth in the bottom of the tray or compartment you keep the lure in. I have also heard of guys using a small triangular file or a coping saw blade and making tiny notches in the bill. 1 for 6' 2 for 10' 3 for 12' etc. Ronnie

Jay, If you are talking about covering the excess threads, cork tape will not stay on. My suggestion would be to get some colored electrical tape and wrap it very tight until it smooths out the threads and stops irritating your fingers. You could then cover the tape wrap with a soft rod grip wrap (see this link). http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_94037_999034012_100000000_100004000_100-4-2 I hope this helps you.
  7. Weather here is about the same as for Russ in RI. Going to get paper work done today! LOL Way to git er done Avid! I can't wait for a new cell phone pic to see if I can tell you from the bass. ;D Go git em! Ronnie
  8. Nothing wrong with venting. Sorry about the torn up ligaments and missing your hunting trip. Do what the doc tells you and take care of the knee. As far as venting goes, I hit a psychological milestone with my mistake knees. For the first time tonight my left knee buckled under me and I fell down on the asphalt and skinned up my leg and my pride. I am only 51 years old and will be having both of my knees replaced in the next few months due to rheumatoid arthritis. The pain is finally more than I can bear. Sucks to get old. Hang in there, it could be worse. It's a miracle to live in a time when doctors can repair this kind of damage. I will look forward to hearing how your knee therapy goes. Also glad you have the support of your GF. Ronnie

Stringjam pretty much nailed it. For a lot of us, fishing is more than just fishing. The whole fishing environment is a satisfying experience. The fellowship of a fishing buddy, planning, preparing, shopping, tuning and getting everything ready for "THE TRIP". A new personal best, a boat load of dinks or skunked, there will be a great story to tell and an important lesson learned, no matter what. If a nice fish on a fancy lure is your story, I want to hear about it. If you catch one with a bare hook on a cane pole, I'm still listening. Bait snob or not, it's all about the experience and the story. JMHO Ronnie
  10. At the Lake Fork road trip last March, Muddy & Ron saw me with my shirt off. They are now real believers! Ronnie
  11. Beautiful reels. You gonna love them! Good job! Ronnie
  12. Thanks Avid, I thought I was the only one who's PB happened 25 years ago. LOL I hooked a bass in a tournament 5 years ago that would have crushed my PB. My fishing partner lipped her into the boat and DROPPED her back into the water. I was devastated for a second! My buddy was mortified that she got away and felt responsible. I laughed out loud and said forget it! She's still there I will catch her again. She will be bigger next time. I would never have gotten a hook in her if I wasn't doing the right thing. Ronnie
  13. Welcome to the forum! Palomar knot is easy to tie and will work with any type of line. It retains knot/line strength as well as any knot. Try it! Ronnie
  14. You all know me as Alpster, but in reality I am the locally famous criminal defense and personal injury lawyer Johnnie T. Cockatoo, Esquire. 8-) My client Mr. Russ L.B. Hookers has obviously been falsely accused of the abduction of Mr. Dom Muddyman's personal bouncies. We believe that the facts of this case will prove that my client was incapable of perpetrating such a heinous crime and will be totally exonerated by the truth of the matters. So whereas heretoforwith and theretofore hereas, on behalf of my client I not only deny the allegations. I resent the alligators! And if I have to, I will play the height card. BTW- You may not even know you've been hurt. Call me at 1-800 SUE EVERYONE. J.T. For the Firm
  15. I get 1500 yard spools of 50lb Power Pro on ebay for half the price per/yard of single fill spools. 1 lb spools of Yo Zuri ultra soft are on sale at Cabella's but only in limited sizes. Ronnie
  16. They are made by "Boss Hoss" they make them with big blocks 500+ HP. Insane! http://www.bosshoss.net/view_bike.asp?x=BHC3502 Cool video Russ! Ronnie
  17. When you check out at Dick's and the cashier calls you by your first name and asks how your kids are doing. Ronnie
  18. When I was a kid down in Buras La. These big black and yellow grasshoppers would come out by the millions. They would be everywhere. The roads were coated with yellow goo from cars running over them. Every blade of tall grass in the yard would have one hanging on it. It was like something out of a horror movie. We sat out on the back porch and shot them with a bb gun, until we ran out of bbs. I hated them. Ronnie
  19. I'm thinking it might chine walk a little. ;D Ronnie
  20. That's great news Mike! I was disappointed that you were not going to be there. Ronnie
  21. Shimano baitcasters.......I have 5 50Mgs, 1 Calcutta TE200DC and 1 Calcutta 400B and none of them have any slack in the drawworks. I have had in the past, a couple of Calais, a Chronarch 100 a couple of Curados and a couple of Bantam XGs. I have loved em all! Ronnie
  22. If you have spool of 555 you don't want, just send it to me. I don't care what size. I love it! 8-) Ronnie
  23. I think for lightweight cranks and topwaters a more moderate action will load better and help you cast the light weights. I am saying the same thing as RW, just relating it to lighter baits. I use a glass rod for crankin. But for heavier baits, I like a long, fast action rod for distance. Ronnie
  24. I feel your pain also. I hit up Cabellas for a couple of tackle bags and several spools of Yo-Zuri Ultra soft. I would probably have just spent that money on something frivolous like food or medicine. Ronnie
