speed limit for bass boats?
So what your saying is I could be on my trolling motor fishing and a boat can come within 5ft of my boat at headway speed and be within the boundaries of legal boating, as long as they didn't hit my boat?

speed limit for bass boats?
You know I give this allot of thought every time I am out on the lake I live on. It is a small body of water less than 300 acres. The lake is encircled with houses or cottages and everyone has either a runabout, pontoon, or ski boat. I rarely have a problem with the Jet Skiers on the lake yes they fly up and down the lake but thats not my problem. Who I have a problem with is the people just slowly cruising the lake that feel the need to go in between me and the shoreline, or come well within casting distance of me, while I am clearly fishing. Case in point, I am fishing a dock 30ft form shore. I am 25-35ft from the dock boaters will go in between me and the dock not going fast but fast enough they are throwing huge amounts of wake. One instance that really got me upset/wanted to lay the smack down. This pleasure boater is slowly cruising the lake it is approximately 8:45pm, I have my navigation lights in and on as it is getting dark. On this 300 acre lake I am fishing a small cove that is literally 2-3ft deep and is loaded with Coontail. This pleasure boater sees me and drives 25ft off my bow into the area I was fishing, I put down my rod and just glared at him as he goes by. Now this is an older couple graying hair and all, I see the wife say something too her husband. I am guessing it was something along the lines of "That fisherman doesn't like us this close to him.". Now the Husband looks over his shoulder sees me and what does he do? He gooses the gas! At that moment I wanted to hurl a treble hook laden lure into their boat, or cast in front of them with braided fishing line. This type of behavior is ignorant and classless. What I would like to know is exactly how close can other boaters come to your boat? I am well aware of the 150ft clearance and then you need to be at a no wake speed. The thing is at a no wake speed how close can you get? In the state of NH they had a law that made it mandatory that if you registered your boat in NH you needed to pass a boaters safety course. This is a great idea, but it isn't enforced. Also in NH the DNR or Fish and Game do not handle boating laws that is left up to The Marine Patrol Division of The Department of Motor Vehicles.

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Hey all, Did some Striper fishing over the weekend. Out of Hampton Beach, we used my friends boat. We did ok nothing spectacular, we caught 16 Stripers and 1 Bluefish. We think that our numbers were down because if the Bluefish are in that they will scare off some of the schoolies we were targeting. Anyway lets have some reports how have you guys been doing?

fly fishing for stripers
Hey Bream Master, 8wt might be a little on the small size for stripers. Atleast up here in NH in the ocean it would be. Im not saying you couldnt do it. I personally use a 10wt flyrod for my stripers and an 8wt for my lm bass fishing. The 20 lb flouro leader sounds fine but you also might want to think about adding a small length of wire leader also. Up here we have stripers mixed in with Bluefish that have teeth that can easily go through 20lb flouro. Hope this helps.

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Man tough break Vernal. I always keep my old TM prop on board just as a spare in that type of a situation. As for fishing I have been on Cobbetts Pond allot lately Fishing has been on with allot of fish decent size but nothing to really get excited over. I have caught fish on some Texas rigged worms, Spinnerbait, Topwater, Crankbait, and of course Jig. I have tentative plans to head out to Hampton this Friday and try my luck at some Stripped Bass, should be fun. Hope you guys are having a good time as I am. I think for the south eastern part of the state we are well on our way too summer patterns. The rest of the state might still have some lingering effects of the Post Spawn Blues, that will quickly fade if the weather stays decent. Tight Lines all!

Trolling Motor mount questions and more
This absolutely true. I am almost positive you can purchase Aluminum flashing that is treated so that the chemicals used in treating pressure treated lumber will not react with the Aluminum. I thought I came across this type of product at HD, when I was looking for copper flashing.

To Be A Fisherman...
A man was on the water for his weekly fishing trip. He began his day with an 8 pound bass on the first cast and a 7 pound on the second. On the third cast he had just caught his first ever bass over 11 pounds when his cell phone rang. It was a doctor notifying him that his wife had just been in a terrible accident and was in critical condition and in the ICU. The man told the doctor to inform his wife where he was and that he'd be there as soon as possible. As he hung up he realized he was leaving what was shaping up to be his best day ever on the water. He decided to get in a couple of more casts before heading to the hospital. He ended up fishing the rest of the morning, finishing his trip with a stringer like he'd never seen, with 3 bass over 10 pounds. He was jubilant.... Then he remembered his wife. Feeling guilty he dashed to the hospital. He saw the doctor in the corridor and asked about his wife's condition. The doctor glared at him and shouted, "You went ahead and finished your fishing trip didn't you! I hope you're proud of yourself! While you were out for the past four hours enjoying yourself on the pond your wife has been languishing in the ICU! It's just as well you went ahead and finished because it will be more than likely the last fishing trip you ever take!" "For the rest of her life she will require 'round the clock care. And you'll be her care giver forever!" The man was feeling so guilty he broke down and sobbed. The doctor then chuckled and said, "I'm Just pulling your leg. She's dead. What'd you catch?"

minn kota speed problems
I had something different go on my Minn Kota 74lb thrust Maxxum, years ago. The problem was actually on recall so I got that fixed and they replaced the board and its heatsinks, which were under recall too. All of the parts and labor were free to me. Other than that I have never had a problem with my Minn Kota TM.

Berkley Vanish
Now that you mention it, I have used 25 lb Big Game as well and found it to be better than average with regard to backlashes. I also have found that all the fluoro I throw tends to loosen up on the spool a lot and I frequently have to strip some off and tighten it to prevent problems. So what's up? I couldnt agree more Cephkiller I had Berkley Vanish 17lb on my reel and it would continually backlash and loosen up off the spool. I have been fishing PLine CXXXtra Strong line, I went back to that after the Vanish mishaps. I never really noticed a big difference in bites from the PLine to the Vanish either. So goes my search for another Fluro or I will just stick with the PLine.

BassBoat + Ants...
Hey guys, As the title clearly states I have a small but growing population of ants residing in my bassboat. Unfortunately for me where I park my rig it is right over a sandy stretch with numerous ant hills. Now these are not carpenter ants or fire ants or anything like that just small tiny ants that you commonly see in the sand on the side of the road. I know exactly how they got in. They followed the extension cord up and onto the boat. The extension cord being warm from it drawing electricity to power my onboard charger. So it looks like in the near future I'm going to have to empty the contents of the boat and set off a few Ant bombs. Short of that does any one have any suggestions to remedy this problem?

Transducer poll (fiberglass)
Maybe not the most popular view but I have a thru hull transducer mount. I must say for the majority of times it works fine but at high speeds and other times it will lose signal. If I end up replacing my transducer on my boat for my console graph I am going to go with a transom mount for sure.

A Shoutout for NH Fishermen!!!
Hey Guys, Got out on the water yesterday looking for big numbers and quality fish. Someone I guess forgot to tell the fish that. We had a rough go of it on Sunday. We got out on the lake around 9:10am got back too the launch at 8:00pm, I caught 6 partner caught 7, I easily dropped 5 more . These fish from what I could see were not hungry at all, short striking most lures. I had trailer hooks on my spinnerbaits and buzzbaits, somehow a good portion of these managed to come unbuttoned at the boat. I only got 1 bite on the jig the rest were on spinnerbiats. I hope you guys had better luck than I did.
