  1. Hey guys, wondering what this left over tropical storm Barry will do to the fishing. I havent been out lately and have got the shakes to get out on the water. This weekend doesnt look great either with it being Fathers Day. Hope you guys are sticking them good. I dont go out hunting for bedding fish on purpose but if they bite I'll stick them. Usually the way these northern lakes work is there will be 2 waves of spawning fish. Depending on the Full Moons and temps in May and June. Personally going out looking for bedding bass and just sitting on a bed and actively trying to pester a bass into biting for 5-10 mins isnt much of a challenge to me. There isnt anything wrong with it. I also agree that a day with smallies isnt going to happen like that all the time either so take it when you can get it. If I know the bass are up on beds when Im going thru some spawning areas I'll just fancast the area and not concentrate on just the beds. That way your usually just going to pickup the more aggressive male most of the time. Just my thoughts.
  2. Hey thanks guys. 2 trips into ma. arent going to sour my spirits. The running joke is no matter what state where ever he suggest and takes me its always a tough day. Well looking at the calender I have a wedding this weekend in York Pa. and the weekend after that is Fathers day looks like Im gonna be busy for awhile before I get after them again. Good luck and tight lines everyone...
  3. Well glad you guys got into them smallies up north. I fished the Nashua R. in the Groton stretch yesterday. Dear lord was that a mistake, I couldnt buy a bite. A good friend has begged me to get a Ma. Lic., I finally did this year and Im glad I fish and live in NH. So the Groton stretch looks like a great fishery. We were out on the water fishing out of my friends boat 7hrs he caught 4 bass and 4 crappie. The bass were probably 7-10inches, 1 was a little bigger it might have weighed 1lb. I dropped 2 tiny bass at the boat that was it. We moved onto Forge pond I caught 2 tiny bass on a spinnerbait. So altogether 10hrs out on the lake and I caught 2 dinky fish, very disappointed.
  4. Its still early, season matchup so far Red Sox 6 NYY 3...
  5. I wouldn't be so sure about that. New Hampshire is pretty far North, and this has not been an especially warm spring. What's your water temp? An inexpensive Wal mart swimming pool thermometer is all you need. I would fish the gill in known spawning areas. and in the deeper water adjacent to those areas. Let it sink all the way to the bottom. It will land on it's nose and stay that way. If the bottom is clean, drag or twitch it a little before making the slow steady retrieve. good luck and have fun avid. This is my home waters I am referring too I was out on it just yesterday. I had temps on my Lowrance ranging from 62°F - 67°F. I have seen many empty beds for the last 2 weeks or so. Yesterday I was catching bass off deeper drops (8-12ft) relating to schooling alewife. I am pretty positive that the coming full moon at months end will bring another wave of spawners short and shallow but at this time I havent bumped into them yet. Thanks for your info I was swimming it on the deeper side of flats leading to the spawning areas and main lake points. This is solely a spring fed pond which heats up fast in the spring, it doesnt have like many southern lakes the famous creek channel running through it. I was fishing this pond back on April 2nd Ice out being right at the end of March. Anymore input would be great.
  6. I have read allot of people's posts concerning big bass and double digit bass. I know some people here are big users in swimbaits as well. I recently purchased the Mattlures swimbait the Bluegill model. My question is this other than reeling it in slow but just fast enough to get the tail moving. Where exactly do you feel I should be fishing this? My thoughts since I am in NH was that I am now in a postspawn scenario. I should be fishing dropoffs outside of spawning coves. Also along main lake points and other main lake structure. Any Help on this would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Good Luck, The Celtics yet again got hosed by the draft. They by far have the worst luck when it comes to the draft...
  8. Personally if its within the law it doesnt bother me at all. I personally wouldnt do it but thats me. Playing devils advocate though what if the Utah DNR has no limits on carp or limits when spear fishing? What if they deemed that these fish are now in an over population status and need to be thinned out? Something similar to this happened in my state a few years ago. There were no limits on panfish (Sunfish and Perch)in my state 5 yrs ago. Some people were coming into our waters and literally catching 50 gal barrels full of fish everyday and selling it for other purposes than eating, day after day this went on. The state became aware of it and now has a limit of 50 panfish per day.
  9. This should be a warning/lesson to all who have trolling motors. With more and more people using braid if you run into someones discarded braid fishing line and it wraps around your trolling motor it can and will work itself to a point where it will start putting pressure and eventually break the water tight seals of your trolling motor's motor and do some horrific damage. I try that every 2 weeks or so take off my trolling motor prop and inspect for any fishing line and quickly remove it. This should also be done to your big motor to as braid will have the same effect on a lower unit's seals as well.
  10. If your talking about bottled water, go figure. The water from a municipal water source is checked and tested more frequently than the water being bottled for purchase. Nestle, Coke, and Pepsi are the major producers of bottled water. This is a major concern for people in the near future with these companies combing the world for water rights to supply their vast need for clean water. So yes quit buying water its free from your tap, and most likely in better shape than the water your paying for in a bottle.
  11. Anybody get out yesterday? I was out on the lake for 9hrs and boy it was a tough go of it. The Fishing early was decent and picked up a handful real quick but as each progressive wave of showers/rain came through the bite got harder and harder. With the ending coming as a front bringing through some thunderstorms forced us off the water. I caught 9 bass none of any size all on plastics and jigs in shallow water. We were fishing Last lake in Groton Ma, anyone have any better success?
  12. I have fished Deering Resevoir. It is a good fishery with plenty of smallies too. I however each time I go with someone who raves about it we struggle to get bit with some decent size fish. There is some great structure to the lake. Shoreline to the right offers some real steep dropoffs. and out on the left are some humps that come up close to the surface. My only advice is get there early there is limited parking so it tends to fill up fast and your out of luck if there isnt a spot left. Hope that helps good luck...
  13. Wow, I must say this really opened my eyes to allot. I live in NH and have never ever had a problem on the water with someone. Well there was that time with a Barney Fife Marine Patrol Officer, but he dropped the ticket later on. In all seriousness I never had planned on an altercation on the water or at a launch like some of you have mentioned. Very rarely do I go fishing by myself but I will be more cautious from now on. It also makes me think do I really need a firearm? Great thread guys, althought Im glad I dont have a story to add to it...
  14. Man knows his stuff...
  15. Good tips thanks Walkingboss, to be honest I have troubles at the popular lakes and do better at the lakes people dont go to that say they are difficult, Go Figure. Bow, Pawtuckaway, Deering Res. are the top three that give me trouble. Now giving myself credit only been to Bow once, havent been back yet. Pawtuckaway I have been to 3 or 4 times. I was getting fish but they were few and far between. Lastly Deering Res. my friend raves about that place but when I go the fishing was down right tough. The only pattern I could find was ending up dead sticking Senkos in 10-15ft of water and catching 10 inch Smallies. Anyway just thought Id share the lakes I have problems on.
  16. 3/8 oz Black and Blue flake Jig with a #11 Uncle Josh Black pork Frog. Hands down...
  17. Nice looking Jigs Gman...
  18. Hahaha I so hear you there. I know there are good fish in that lake but dear lord I have easily had my worst days on that lake. The day I went out I almost caught a 11inch bass at the ramp. I should have tried harder for that one. The rest of the day proved to be no easy task 6hrs later I caught nothing and came off the lake scratching my head like what just happened?
  19. Ive had success on both rigging methods. I personally will go to a shaky setup when the conditions are exceeding tough. I am referring to the last few outings of the season before Ice in, when the water temps are under 45°F even 40°F . When a slow approach is needed to get bite. Likewise in the Spring when its just ice out and you could have a hard time getting bit. Postspawn with a cold front coming through also sounds like an ideal time to use a shaky head rig. When do I use a texas rig? All the time not previously listed. That would be my go to rigging method althought last Fall I gained a huge amount of confidence in using the Shaky rig method.
  20. Complete game from Dice-K last night allowed one run. Go Sox!
  21. Hey Bass XL I think you are referring to these. They work real good it puts the weight on the band rather than on the Senko. Here is an Ebay link where I got them, hope this helps.
  22. yea pitching is awful Beckett at 7-0. Totally sux...lol ;D
  23. Ok so Im guessing this was directed at me? Call me crazy but I agree with Avid on this. If we agree that Oil is a non sustainable resource. Why go there and prolong our dependency on Oil? This will solve nothing, its only a temporary fix, try to think big picture. We need to develop a new type of fuel to power our cars and heat our homes period. Granted I am sure your correct about the dimensions of an oil drilling platform. Thats not the point. Its putting that pristine environment that was set aside to be protected at risk. So we can indulge ourselves a few more years on Oil? I think the powers that be need to take a serious step forward and provide a direction for this country to become not so dependent on Oil as a resource. If that makes me a tree hugger so be it, I think it shows some forward thinking and some responsibility on my part.
  24. Welcome aboard wagn, join in or feel free to report whats going on for fishing in your part of the state. baboosicbass08 Lizards would definitely work althought I think it might be a tad early for Carolina Rigs. If I were you Id get a 6in green pumpkin lizard Texas rig it with a 1/8-1/4oz bullet head sinker and fish that around spawning flats, and on the first dropoff from those spawning flats. I think the Bass are either in the process of spawning now or are already done in most waters in the state, especially in the southern part where I am. Hope that helps, lemme know how you do. Hey baboosicbass08, spawning coves are generally shallow protected flats with access to deeper water. Like a protected cove or a tributary. Bass will spawn just about anywhere as long as its shallow and they have something to spawn their eggs on or in or near. Florida bass will spawn on the roots of lily pads. In my home lake they spawn in areas with sandy/pea gravel bottoms. In Canobie they do the same but also some might spawn near boulders. I would suggest that lizard or a creature type bait and throw it short and shallow at any shallow targets especially wood/docks. As for me I was at my small lil pond where I caught my PB last night for about 40 mins. I caught 3 off the bank/bridge and had another on but he came off close to shore. All were about a pound maybe pound and a half. I caught all of them on a chatterbait between 8:10-8:50pm last night. I needed a fix before I had to go to work today. I even took the boat out and brought it down and vaccumed it and washed. I need a fix bad to get out on the water again.
