Start of fall fishing?
We here in northeastern PA had a couple of cool days in the 60's and low 70's for highs and 50's for lows on Thursday and Friday. I got out today and the bite was scattered at best. The first bass was deep, in about 15 ft. away from any grass and the second was shallow in about 2 ft. in the grass. Those were the only 2 bass I caught. The weeds are beginning to die and to add to the problems, the water was muddy due to rain. Times are gonna be tough for a little while. Might try the river.

The Road To The Super Bowl 2018
My prediction is an appeal with a reduction to 3 games. Probably the only prediction I'll get right this football season.

New PB/Greatest Day EVER!
Congrats to you and your wife. Just think, in a couple of years you'll have your very own fishing buddy.

Fishing Crisis - goofy Smallmouth?
Good job landing that brown bomber Grumpy. Anybody who's caught smallies knows your feeling of being pumped up by a smallie giving you a fight that would make a marlin jealous.

Hey if I can drink for a reason...why not? It beats just being drunk on a Monday.

Wear your glasses!
This thread reminds me of a time I was fishing with a friend. As I was making a cast the line looped around one of the eyes of the rod and the spinner bait swung back and hit my friend in the unmentioned area (yup) and stuck there. He was bent over from pain and I was hunched over laughing. I was wearing my glasses but he wasn't wearing a cup.

This isn't creepy...right? RIGHT?
Actually, that happened a long time ago. Before the Kardashians, selfies and Pokémon! Now we are on the long, slow descent. Please put your tray tables in the upright position.

Finally someone came up with a use for those helicopter lures.

Where did they all go?
That is going on all over. Its the summer heat. Luckily I like fishing slow. Whether its a jig and plastic or just the plastic, I'm all for it.

New Rage Baby Menace and Swimmer 2 3/4
Started using the menace grubs on my swimjigs and loved the action. Now I can downsize my jigs when the fishing gets tough and still keep the menace.

The Annual Boom or Bust Lure thread - 2017 edition
I've been varying the speed. Keeping in mind that the plopper is a combination of lures, I've varied the retrieve speed from just twitching it and pausing to a steady retrieve and everything in between. The funny thing is after I stopped throwing it I would come back to that area with a torpedo, a buzz bait, a spook or a zoom toad and catch fish. I really don't know why it hasn't produced. I doubt its the speed.

If you could live anywhere
If I didn't have a crazy relative living in the Orlando area, that is where I would be. Big bass and year-round warm weather. Really can't beat that but I still reserve the right to travel every northern spring (april-may) to my home river, the Susquehanna, to catch the big brown bass.

Round Valley Reservoir, NJ Smallmouth
I haven't fished Round Valley but smallies this time of year are gonna be tough. Hot water really puts them off during the day. Fishing low with jigs and slow with drop shots have produced for me this time of year on lakes near me. Good luck.

Is it normal to not catch anything?
For me that's not even a cold streak. Wait till you see bass chasing your lure and you still can't make them bite. Like they are mocking you. They know you spend thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of hard-earned dollars buying everything you think they want and still they won't bite. Then you will truly know the meaning of defeat.

River fishing after a flood
Good idea about relocating any trapped fish. As far as fishing post-flood conditions, I'd concentrate on fishing with moving baits that produce a lot of vibration. Spinnerbaits with big Colorado blades and wide wobbling crankbaits are good. I know that's how smallmouths in my river (Susquehanna) find food in muddy water. Use bright colors too. Chartreuse and fire tiger are good colors. Try to find eddies behind objects in the water that have "dead" water. Dead water is when an eddy creates a pool of water where there is little or no current. You can usually find these places pretty easy. They will have foam or other floating debris in them that doesn't get washed down river. Fish hold in these areas out of the current and wait for food to be washed toward them. Then they just dart out and grab it. That's just what works for me on my stretch of the river. Good luck and stay safe.

Susquehanna River Boat
I see a ton of Lowe Roughnecks on the river up my way. Great thing about them is the raised transom. Also some roughnecks have the steering console more forward on the boat. That allows you to see more of the water ahead to avoid any debris or rocks. I admit to not knowing much about the G-3s. I agree with TS that an 18' would be better for 3 people, as well as getting a higher hp jet motor than the 30/20.

The Annual Boom or Bust Lure thread - 2017 edition
Boom would be the swim jig. I know that any jig can be a swim jig and that its more of a technique than a lure but I've caught a good number of fish on it this year. And they don't just hit it, most of the fish I've caught were solidly hooked. Bust...well if you have read some of my other posts you know how I feel about the Whopper Plopper. I've fished it at various times and it just hasn't produced. I mean, no fish at all on a lake that is pretty good for top water baits.
