Skipping
To all, I want to say I wasn't judging at all, so I hope you didn't take my post that way. I personally am likely to never be comfortable skipping under docks. While I love to roll cast from the bank, but it is very difficult out of my 16 ft aluminum deep V. I am with most and skip occupied docks or where the family is out in the yard. Just wanted to say some of us aren't bothered if you guys go pick off the bass we left for ya;)

Spy Baits
I always reel them slow, I haven't worked them faster. I have heard some guys that use them like a rip bait. I only tie them on when the bite really dies. The funny thing is they won't chase a squarebill or hit a plastic but they chase these down. Sometimes bass really confuse me. Off topic but had a major cold front on vaca and post front they killed spinnerbaits but nothing else. Never tried spybaits, but I bet they would have worked.

Spy Baits
Curious what is wrong with the Storm spybait? I have both the Storm and the Dou and the Storm has saved the day during a tough bite a few times for me and I have yet to catch a fish on the Duo. They aren't really too bad to use, reminds me of a rapala countdown minnow. Now a senko is painful to use, at least these you get to reel them in. I did use them in 6 to 7 fow around reed beds, so my countdown was fairly short.

Skipping
Maybe I am not hardcore enough, I am one of those that tosses around the edges and that is as close as I will ever get. My fear with skipping is whacking a boat or dock. Not a lake owner yet, but am hoping my wife will let us get the forever home on the lake 10-15 years before we retire so I can enjoy it. Just don't get the casting under boats etc. Might just me being too cautious I guess, but there are some of us that are happy picking around the edges and accept that we miss some fish.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
It has been really slow. Since my wife has my spending locked down due to me signing my life away to get the Dobyn's rods at the start of the pandemic I have been trying to use this thread for ideas for Christmas, so you all need to stat buying lol Am curious about the Molix stuff, it is definitely some different looking lures which could be good or bad.

What is that on the horizon?
Maybe BassResource bought Bass;) No clue, but this better be good, two teaser threads:)

What do you always have tied on...
Slider spider rigged soft plastic. Generally been either a Rage menace, tube or 5" Kalins single tail. If I am just looking at the river, a ned gets a lot of play too, but very rarely on lakes.

Wait For It
A fitting end to this thread would be for one of the mods maybe @roadwarrior to lock it down with a goodnight Irene before we ever learn what we are waiting for? Maybe it will be a new ? policy when replying to posts not to pass on anything but info;) Sorry couldn't resist when I saw that Emoji.

The latest sale thread
I scored on that deal too and I have hardly used any of the worms yet lol. DSG used to have some great deals. They also honored a website misprint where I got 2 whopper ploppers ridiculously cheap price with one of their by two for a better price deals. I got like 8 of them and when I said on the phone to the customer service rep I was only getting what I needed and didn't want to take advantage of the deal, his words were along the lines of why not it was our mistake. Both DSG and Academy have had really good customer service when I needed to use it.

The latest sale thread
They don't look like bad baits, but I have such a backstock of Menaces and will be stocking up on my new favorite, the very durable Arsenal Assault bug that at 3.50 I passed. One can only use so many plastics in a lifetime lol. Had they been 2 bucks I might have wiped them out of some colors.

The latest sale thread
We shop for groceries for my parents at Walmart and so far the only sale items I have seen are Googan plastics for 3.50. Don't want to make too big of a leap since it's Walmart, but curious how that brand is doing, as this isn't a good sign.
-
Shelves are bare
Only places I have been to are Farm and Fleet and Walmart and their fishing sections are pretty bare. Thankfully I am stocked up for a few years, not 2038 like Tennessee Boy though. That said one Walmart did have Googan plastics on sale, and I still passed at 3.50 a bag.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
What is crazy is that Rapala basically has the same box for their lures over many years. I bought a bunch of old ones at an auction and the same box as now. Have one or two really old that are a box with the same color i think, but different graphics. Their marketing team is either lazy, or genius. Guessing the brand recognition is so strong they might lose that on a display rack if they altered the colors. That is a great get. Now the question is how many of those will see water?

What is Tom Monsoor saying here? - Swimjig content
Wow, I have always wondered if the cross their eyes hookset was for show or needed. I have always been a wrist snap set or reel set kind of guy. Only time I don't hook up with heavy pressure I figure it was a pike or Muksy. Doesn't seem that much is needed to hook a bass in the mouth. Do see a lot of you tube and instagram videos where people almost fall out of the boat setting the hook and would take out their co angler if they got in the way of the rod. Aren't the big hookset folks worried about tearing the mouth making it easier for the fish to toss the bait?

Winning a gift card!
Congrats! I am usually very thrifty and don't buy the shiny things with my own money and end up with all practical things. So when I get gift cards from work or as gifts from other people I buy the nicer things I wouldn't normally spend the money on if it wasn't a gift card. Things like the Plano Edge jig box, some pricier cranks or a better quality stick or reel than I would normally buy. Last year I got some Jackall Rerange and a couple of Provoke jerkbaits, normally out of my price range, and they did very well for me this year and will be on my practical things list next year.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
So kick butt story. A while back I was looking up Neons and I saw a Miller branded bass fishing one and was bummed my Dad didn’t have one, used to be a Miller distributor. We dropped off groceries today, we shop for them so they don’t need to go out and be exposed, and look what I found that has been sitting there for 23 years. Will be a nice addition to the man cave! If you happen to follow me on Twitter you will see a short video soon, the bass and water around it blink on and off.

How do you fish a Ned Rig 20 to 40 feet deep?
Due to the poor design of my trolling motor (terrova) my front depth finder is hung off the back of my 16 foot boat. I ended up snapping 3 cables with it on front before it p*****d me off enough to take drastic measures. Also had tons of motor feedback issues and had to use a rubber mat between the motor and transducer to get it to work. Realistically I only use it for following breaklines or finding humps anyways so it works for me. Doesn't allow me to video game fish though. I mostly shallow water fish, but if I do deeper water I toss deep divers or lipless baits on the breaklines. The humps I have only fished for walleye.

How do you fish a Ned Rig 20 to 40 feet deep?
My depth finder isn't good enough for video game fishing and I am happy for that. Most I will use sometimes is a fish cam to see if we waste our time on a spot. What I described above works great for Eyes, no reason it wouldn't work for the Ned too. For me though light weights deep are my last attempt, I try heavier weights first because they are more efficient.

You ever misplaced any tackle?
Since most of my tackle is in the master closet or man cave it isn't lost for long. The biggest problem was finding specific plastics I needed in the boxes I have accumulated over the years. So I created a table alphabetized by Brand, Color, Bait style and numbered the boxes and added a column for box number to the table. This has saved me a nice chunk of time when packing for a trip to the lake.

Slimy YUM baits
It hasn't been all zoom, just some bags have been. This was a few years ago though, and was an issue with mostly some finesse worms.
-
Slimy YUM baits
Zoom is another brand. Some bags will be dry as a bone and other are like that water filled kids toy that keeps slipping out of your had lol

Slimy YUM baits
Before boxing oily baits I rinse them in the sink and let them air dry. Also do this with baits with lots of salt.

How do you fish a Ned Rig 20 to 40 feet deep?
I wouldn't fish the traditional Ned rig that deep, I would likely go to a heavier head. If they did need the slower fall of the lighter head, it would be like walleye fishing, patience and a lot of cider;) Seriously though if going with a lighter weight you would need a line you could see easily and I would fish it vertically. What I have done fishing Ned weighted jigs for walleye is mark the line, bobber stop works when have enough line out to be on bottom. When dropping the bait keep an eye on the line and if it stops dropping or starts moving in an unnatural manner and you don't see your on bottom mark reel up and set the hook. It can be very tough fishing, but if you get on good fish it is worth it.

Tube recommendations
I have had good luck with the swing oil J tube. A bigger tube but very durable. Before that I really liked the old Trigger X tubes, wish I could find more. Realistically I haven't bought a brand of tubes that doesn't catch fish. I generally choose my tubes by color not the brand when in store. If ordering from TW I would probably go with the Strike king coffee tubes like others above. I fish up north, but will add that the tube is a very versatile lure. You can bounce it on bottom to imitate a craw, or lightly weight it and fish it up in the water column to imitate a dying fish. I only texas rig them on slider heads, but hear that spiral drop with the insert heads can be killer, just never got around to trying it over the years.
