Need help setting the hook on a Texas rig
I fish a texas rig all the time when I need to get that worm deeper. Generally the fish won't exactly "nail" it. But when you go to reel in slack, you can the nsee the line getting taken away, which is one of my favorite feelings in the world, then you nail that fish with a strong hookset. I like to put the hook right through the head of the worm and then texas rig it. Then I will put the hook all the way through and you can see it rest on the worm. Doesnt snag up too often and improves your chances of catching the fish that just nibble at it.

whats tougher
KU I have that exact lure thats hanging out of the fishes mouth. I use it in both winter and summer too. Besides that, that fish has got snow on his tail.... Burrrrrrrrrrr

whats tougher
I'd say cold water is alot tougher because you can run into schools of nice bass in the summertime you just have to know where they are.

Best bass fishing in the US??
Best spot near me is Black Lake,NY up near the Buffalo area, actually a dominant largemouth fishery over smallmouths too. Tons of pike, crappie and all other species as well.

What could it have been and how to react
I've had a couple rock bass hit artificials pretty hard and they never hang on if you go to set the hook. I would just let the thing take it next time and wait, wait, wait, then set the hook.

Losing a huge fish....
When I look back on it I dont think I lost the fish because of a bad hookset or a bad knot... it was more of trying to pull it out with mono line and not giving the fish any line to take out. i could feel that thing pulling hard right in the opposite direction of the boat.

Losing a huge fish....
Today I was skipping docks and hooked into a couple average fish and was having a good day. Then, I ran into a monster , at the least 8 pounds, and was fighthing him hard trying to pull him out from under the docks with 14 lb. test on and he just kept going right back under all the boats and back into cover and I got him close to the boat finally and he came up, jumped all over the place, and was still hooked so I knew I had him good. Had the camera ready and everything. Then when I went to get him he just started going crazy and snapped the line! :'(. What a let down I mean I could never imagine losing a big fish like this in a tourny or something I was just having fun and it killed to lose that fish. Let's hear your sotires about losing a big one, or do any of you never lose the big one, and always tie good knots ?

nightcrawlers??
I went out today and was using my usual setup with soft plastics during the summer nice and deep on the brush piles and just nothing was biting. I was so sick and tired of it I pulled into the dock and went over to get some nightcrawlers and see if I would have any luck on those. I would just use a jighead and put the worm on the hook with no bobber and let it hit the bottom. I was catching fish like crazy, and it wsa pretty fun. It may not feel as accomplishing but nightcrawlers catch a ton of good quality bass and I had a great time fishing with them. Of course it was just a sur of the moment thing but I' think I might do it more. Anyone else experience something similar to this???

baitfish - good or bad?
To me seeing baitfish is always a tremendous sign because baitfish usually lead to the big fish. bass loooooove them some bluegill I can tell you that.

Carp as Bass repellent
The pond near my house has grass carp in it to control the weeds and I have never had a problem catching fish in it. The carp are always very sensitive and I will just be walking along the bank and one will see me and just splash around and swim away.

is this a healthy bass?
I just watched a show on OLN a couple of days ago about this same thing and their example of a unhealthy bass looked exactly like that one. You do the math. What they said you should do is start looking at the length of the bottom part of the fish if it is longer and skinny than it is most likely unhealthy and you want to keep the short and stout ones that have nice big bellies. They took these type of fish out of the pond...

PLEASE PASS THE MOJO
Deal me in for the MOJO MAGIC.... LBH fantastic idea this thing is going to be soooo cool. I just can't believe how you sat down and got this idea its amazing. Please send that baby up to New York and I will put it to good use when I make my trip up to Champlain... BTW...LBH, my uncle is a tuna fisher in cape cod and him and his buddies go out all the time and make TONS of money of those fish, not that he needs it though.(You can tell by him fishing of a yacht) He also enters a bunch of shark tournaments from what I know and it sounds like he does pretty well in those. I've never gotten into saltwater fishing but it sounds awesome. But anyone can pass the mojo fish down to me and I will promise to take some pics!! Great Idea! ;D

what tried and proven technique isnt for you??
Dont mean to sounds like a broken record but I HATE the c-rig. I dont know why I have tryed it time and time again I just find it too complicated and non productive. I also have gotten skunked so many times when I just go out and throw a crank, need to work on that.

To keep or throw back.....why the complaints??
This sure is one popular post I almost feel obligated to take a look at it. Everyone has their own opinion and I have never been one to disagree with a logical opinion, and all of ours are very logical. There are many ways to look at catch and release and keeping the occasional fish, but in the end it just comes down to the person fishing, and what they choose to do. As long as they follow the laws it is fine with me.
