help with new pond
I would throw a fat ika on a 4/0 Gammy EWG hook and cast it as far as you can, let it sink, pop it back up, and let it sit again. I say this because this sounds like the pond I fish and thats what I have been nailing them on lately.

fishing TINY ponds
pikes and walleye also don't help the bass population in a pond and won't allow the bass to grow much bigger because they have to compete with very predatory and aggresive fish. Also PIKE eat BASS, I tell everyone who fishes the pond in my nieghborhood to please not put in any fish with teeth. I was lucky enough to put in 300 shad and shiners thanks to a friend of the family who runs a baitshop and these actually spawned and produced more shad so now there is a constant forage of bluegill and shad. I don't know how the bass didn't get to those things in no time but they managed a succesful spawn and I was so siked. If you want catfish in the pond throw some bullhead in there I think there is about 10 in my pond and they are very easy to catch. I caught one 2 and a half pound smallmouth a while ago in there and have not seen it since. Don't know how it got caught but a buddy of mien told me he caught it a couple weeks ago. My point is in order to maintain a stable and healthy environment for bass, they need less competition for food so they can gorge down all the forage and grow to be alot bigger. Believe me you will notice the difference if you take those walleye, flathead, and pike out of there.

walking the dog
Walking the dog is my favorite way to fish topwaters, and most of the topwaters in my box are WTD baits. I love the action and the bass can't resist it. It is mostly in the wrist motion. Keep your rod tip down and give a couple twitches and with a good lure that runs true out of the box you should get some nice blowups. My favorite walk the dog baits are the Lucky Craft Live Sammy and the Rapala Skitter Walk in bluegill pattern.

Has this site helped you?
When I first visited this site it immediatly nailed me that fishing is something I want to do for the rest of my life. I have learned so much, its truly unbelievebale. I went from bobber and worm to advanced presentations in an astonishing amount of time for a newbie angler. I have now been fishing for almost a year straight and get out on the water about 150 times a year, the only thing stopping me from bass fishing is the ice, and then it is time to pull some fiesty pike out. This site is amazing, it opened me up to all sorts of things like using different baits and getting the feel for them, improving my equipment and realizing the difference it made. This is pretty much the only site I visit whenever I go online and I just can't get enough of it. I still have a ton to learn and am looking forward to many years of membership with the site. Thanks Glenn and all the Mods...

pike and smallies
Hey welcome to the forums. I fish upstate NY and I find myself catching pike all the time while bass fishing, especially on spinnerbaits. I don't think it is that uncommon.

Recent discovery...
Update on the new discovery. Drove a little farther down with my uncle and found one of the old places he used to fish. It is like a 50 acre lake with a little pier that you can walk out on and fish and a boat launch. We launced a little jon boat out there and went shallow to the fallen timber, nothing. Found some other decent spots and still got nothing. So then we pulled back in and decided to try our luck off the pier. Caught one really small baby bass, some 1-2 pounders, some bluegill(those thins bite senkos surprisingly.) and saw some HUGE carp. Will defenitly be going back there I am glad I found this place.

Do any of you have one particular fishing partner
My main fishing buddy is one of my good friends that lives right next to me. He originally taught me how to fish and now I am the one teaching him new things everyday.

Hunting for the "BIG BASS"...NEED HELP QUICKLY
I would key in on the parts of structure where it gets deeper. The deeper the structure the better when the weather is that hot. That is a good attitude as far as releasing the nice bass if you catch him, it's the best way to do it. Best of luck and hopefully you can get some footage of that lunker.

coontail?
you could also go topwater if you get there eraly or later in the day and see if any of the nice bass will come up from outta that thick stuff. That's what I would do just because I can't stand all the coontail coming into the boat.

Recent discovery...
Don't really know what type of bottom there is from the looks of it it's probablly a weedy bottom like a weedbed but in the other ones it looks rocky.

Recent discovery...
mdangler I would prefer braid just so I can muscle the fish right out of there but you are right with the heavier line. It is a public pond too there are signs that list the regulations of it.

Recent discovery...
Alright guys here is my latest discovery. I was out golfing today and noticed a chain of ponds, almost small lakes. Some of them are extremely mucky, like complete algae, you can't even see water. Some of them are nice and clear but pretty shallow. There are others that have a mixture of both. All in all I would say there is about 6 ponds and then a little creek as well. I have no clue where to start with these bodies of water. What to throw, where to throw it... where to start??? I don't have any braid so I am kind of throwing the swampy pond just completely out. I am going there tomorrow and was thinking about starting at the clear clean pond with a senko just to see if there are fish in there. I have a feeling once I get these ponds figured out it could become a really good fishery because it is very low pressured for a golf course pond. Anyone know where I shoulds start. I will be using a 6'6'' St Croix Triumph w/ a Pflugger President spinning reel with 12 pound Berkly Trilen XL Smooth cast.

Pond Rejuvenation Update #1
I have a pond right behind my house and I am going to start catching some more bluegill and putting them in there. I have a feeling the nice bass in there already ate most of them because I just don't see as many these days.

Discovering fishing at 31.
Like fishin phil said it is most defenitly a life long passion. I can't really describe it, you will find out what it feels like your first time out on the water with a new rod reel stup and some new lures. Man it's just undescribable. I mean fishing is not just a hobby for most of us anymore it is part of our lives, and I hope it will be part of your life for a while to. Your gonna learn a lot from this site and best of luck to you down the road.
