  1. The splashes you are hearing from what it sounds like are defeintly carp. They see anything out of the ordinary and they roll on the top of the water and splash pretty loud. I know this because the pond I fish has about 10 of these in it. I agree that the bass are probablly stunted and the neighborhood pond sounds like a big fish producer. You might very well have caught the biggest fish in that pond with the 5-5. As long as there is plenty of forage for the fish they will keep getting bigger and bigger, but it souinds like it is a very productive pond. I don't know about where you are from but a 5-5 here is something worth bragging about.
  2. Thanks a bunch reelmech and flech, just bought an ezkeeper off BPS and feel stupid that I even asked that question considering I looked in their rod and reel accesories section all ready today and must have passed it. Thanks again...
  3. Anybody know an easy way to add a hook holder to a rod, I just bought a couple BPS rods and I know they don't come with hook holders... and have no clue if you can add one or something else but if you know how to please give me directions on it... much apprecaited.
  4. Have not done much night fishing not because I can't go out at night or anything but... I hate the bats that infest my lake at night. I can't stand these things they will fly right next to me, swoop around my face, and are not scared of any light near me on my boat. I will usually fish from 5 am up until I see my first siting of a bat, then I am in the dock. I know it sounds girly but they really do affect my fishing I can't cast out without one of these things flying around in my face. Anybody else have this problem...???
  5. did you use a trailer hook, usually this will increase your hookup percentage. You did the right thing slowing up though if they arent hitting it and your retrieving fairly fast, it's always a good idea to slow down. You know the fish ae there though so keep on trying it. I would recommend a trailer hook unless its super weedy or you were already using one.
  6. Every day, being a kid is great!
  7. I've had days like that before, sightfishing is the most annoying thing sometimes, but its also really fun when they will hang on to the bait!
  8. I agree it might just be the water your fishing doesnt contain as many fish as the others lakes have. I know if you caught 3o or 40 fish in one day at my home lake then you would be having the best day of your life on that lake. I'd take quality over quantity anyday, if I could choose
  9. I love the fluke when I see fish jumping, and I love it when I dont see em too!. BTW, how big is that bass in your avatar!?
  10. All good lures that you bought. Might suggest a spinnerbait, you can get these at dicks for 1.99 and they are strkie king they are pretty good. You just throw it out and reel it in. P.S. dont get the banjo minnow its a scam.
  11. Wow! I feel honored thanks alot LBH!
  12. brushpiles, docks, laydowns.... same old same old.
  13. first off, flyrod, thats one of the longest posts I have ever seen on here. Secondly to respond to the post I find myself fishing topwater baits all the time when the worm bite or soft plastic bite is on just because it is more "fun" to me as well.
  14. I find it hard to believe that those sites in your signature actually are your sponsors I just don't see how a kid your age with little experience whose only looking for free products can get a sponsor, much less gambler lures? All I know is I am only 14, but theres no rush into getting sponsors and such. Take time to embrace the sport of bass fishing and learn from tournys rather than just entering one so you can put it on your "resume"
  15. The pond I fish almost everyday is right down a hill from my house. I will go there probablly 3 times a day, and come up for lunch and dinner. I find that I consistenly catch fish on the first casts of the day and a few more after that. I can quickly catch 2 or 3 in the same spot in about 15 minutes. But then, I will stay in that smae spot for a half an hour more with no bites. I then move to a new spot and get a bite on the fist cast, then its slow from there on. The next spot, bite on first couple casts, tough there on. I find when I leave the fish arent usually hitting that well or else I'd be staying there, and when I get back they are hitting hard again? I think I have caught every fish in that pond at least once and theres probablly about 60 or 70 bass in a little half acre pond. I don't know why but I think I have completely messed it up with how many times I fish there and how often. Just yesterday I went to a spot that I had thought was a "dead spot of the pond" and caught ten fish in a half an hour. So the answer to your question is, I will fish a pond VERY hard, almost too hard.
  16. I voted yes because it would open up a lot more oppurtunities as far as fishing goes. Also it's always great to have the bragging rights.
  17. There is a pond by my house that is semi private it is kind of like the neighborhood pond and its loaded with bass, the biggest one in there is a 6 lb. 5 oz fish, (Know because the owner told me when I caught him) Well the owner hasn't really been keeping up on it like he usually does and he wanted me to look into keeping it healthy and thriving liek it is. I read all the articles this site has on pond management and found out this is stuff that I have been practicing all ready. All the fish in the pond are well fed and healthy and it is know my job to keep it that way. I am one of the only people that fish in it and the others are buddies of mine that fish it with me. It is going to be expensive but I am dedicated to keeping this pond perfect, how often do you get a chance to control how big the fish you are going to catch get to be...??? Anyone else have a pond that they manage and have any inside tips that they use to get bigger bass? I think it's alot of fun to keep a pond going strong. One thing thats in there thats a plus is grass eating carp because it is a pain to go out on a little row boat and pick out all the excess weeds.
  18. I have a fishing log that I keep for a pond that measures the length of the fish, wieght of the fish, girth, and other measurments so that I can keep track of the fishes growth rates. I also have a log for my own benefits that keeps track of what bait is used, presentaion, water type, location, time of day, weight, lenght, etc. etc. It's good to look back if you are going to a lake you havent fished in a while and see what they were hitting on.
  19. YUM dingers would be the only thing I would really use if I am gonna use a senko knockoff. But most of the time, I'll take the original.
  20. Look on your topo for steep drop offs or points. Fish will usually rest on these. Say at one point it is 5 feet of water then the next topo line you see is 25, go there! Always look for structure and skipping a plastic worm under docks can be very procutive during hot days.
  21. Exactly what I've always done. unless you see a spot he's missed.
  22. At the pond by my house I was having trouble catching them when it got a lot hotter out but I located bottom structure and noticed that the fish still stayed shallow during the day as well as long as there was a tree overhead providing shade. Always look for shade or structure and you will find the fish that you were once catching by the dozen.
