  1. you think 2.85 is bad..its 3.11 up here...
  2. I like BPS a bit more just cause I buy all my products online from there. All my rods and reels I get online and all my tackle I get wherever I can find it for cheap.
  3. Salable fish may be transported in any number. Fish caught elsewhere may be transported into New York State in any manner, except parcel post, in the number that may be legally exported from the place of taking, subject to the following: Quote from NY state DEC site. it isn't technically illegal but I will never do it again i don't want to ruin my pond. I am glad i read this post.
  4. LBH the 5.6 I caught wasnt tagged but it looked exactly the same as the picture I had taken as it had a small dot right above it's eyes. it could have been a different fish and fish don't normally grow that fast in new england but this pond is loaded with tons of bait and lots of vegetation and i think over two years it is the same fish, but I could defenitly be wrong. i don't do it too often but I have never seen a dead fish in that pond, not even a bluegill, and the fish that are in there where not stocked fro ma hatchery the maker of the pond caught all the fish in there from the lake right across the street. I am still worried about disease in the pond so I am not going to d othis again but I think I got lucky the first couple of times.
  5. For worms you cant go wrong with a Gammy WORM hook.... shiners use a circle hook of some sort. My younger brother comes along with me every now and then and he actually likes shiners more than worms believe it or not because he says he likes putting them on the hook more than worms. I tend to fish hard when ever he comes along but I think it's ok because he is just my annoying brother, but if I ever took other kids out I would really make sure they have a great time i think that was a very good tip.
  6. wow thats really good! I like the details...
  7. is putting 1 or 2 pounders into a pond that bad for it? I did my own little experiment and caught a fish in the main lake. Talked with the "fishing police" as I call them. And he said it was alright to take a couple of them and put them in the pond right across the street. I took a picture of this 2.5 pounder and put him in the pond. About a year or two later I caught this same fish and he was 5.6. I guess it's really a matter of do how healthy the body of water is and how the certain fish adapts.
  8. hey thats what i was going to say, I have a feelign in this one pond I have caught every fish in it twice. A few 5 pounders too.
  9. like Fish Chris says, you will remember the really big ones and PB's, but forgot those 100 something 1 pounders every day.
  10. no not watermelon for me, pumpkinseed!
  11. sounds kind a sketchy...???
  12. I never thought there could be too much forage but now that I think about it it could be possible.
  13. Man I feel for you I have the same exact type of pond in my neighborhood! ONe day I went down there and saw renters just taking all the fish in the pond and I how many they had and they had 30 or so and there was only 3 people so I told them that the pond was only C&R because thats what the owner told me and they listened. THANK GOD they listened. It made me so mad though. i do think they cleaned it out, but there are days at my pond where they just hit nothing, and I throw some crawlers in there and catch 10 fish in an hour so I don't know.
  14. My friend is the same way sometimes. We have a pond that pretty much only we fish and it is loaded and tons of fun to catch nice bass in the 2-4 pound range consistently and then he insists we bike a couple miles to this one lake that I don't even like because he caught two pike there one time. I told him if he wants to fish a lake just come in my dads boat
  15. look at all those hawgs...
  16. 7,000 is pretty decent around here too. My home lake is 3,000 acres and is one of the biggest around until you keep moving up north to champlain and such. I have one lake next to me as well that is about 300 or so acres and I love it. I can see huge bass swimming around in there and it is alot easier to cover. But any lake I have an oppurtunity to fish, you can bet money I will be there, no matter what size.
  17. awesome Cap'n, way to go.
  18. I always look for very shady spots whether it be under a big tree or docks. They usually hold lots of fish during the hot middle of the day times.
  19. Nice fish, Really a beauty. I respect what you did but I also respect Keithscatch's opinion and I know I would have thrown it back. But you didn't break the law and you didn't eat it and you are entitled to your opinion. Once again very nice fish, Double digits come few and far between, guess that's why it's hard to see that fish go.
  20. From my log this year I have only been skunked once, and that was the first time the lake was fishable after the ice melted. So far so good... knock on wood.
  21. with jigs generally the quicker the hook set the better but you might want to let them take it a little bit more then get em with a good strong hookset.
  22. My best numbers day was 48 on my home lake, before that my record was 17! I ran into a huge school of middle sized LMB on a brushpile and the rest was history. But my most memorbale day was when I got two PBs in one day. Going into the day my PB was a 5.12 Largemouth, that I caught the day before, AFter it was a 7.3, and in between those I caught 6.8 all off a fluke. The 7.3 was the best fight I have ever had in a fish.
  23. I'll do it considering I already do it anyways , good idea RW
  24. Alot of people keep logs and there is even won up in the top of the page under tackle box premade. I have always kept one and find it good to look back to if you are going to a body of water you haven't fished in a while or just want to see how you did... good luck.
