  1. bps prolite finesse reel and rod combo.
  2. can I get any of those at a local department store?
  3. how did that not get photo of the year. That is a beautiful picture and I havent ever seen one like it except in magazines and stuff llike that. That is national geographic material. I need to upgrade my camera after seeing some of these shots. I though 6 mp was good enough, but I want to get professional quality now. Screw a new rod and reel setup, I have enough of those, professional photos will last me a lifetime. That is my next upgrade. Well anyways back to the herons. I personally love them. I remember a time I was fishing and like avid one was just watching me fish. it was so cool. We kept looking back at eachother too and when I got one he came a little closer. There is I think a family of these that live by my favorite pond. I always see a huge one and a little one walking the banks. I can get very close to these birds, but like to let them get up and move on their own without kind of forcing them to move by me walking to close to them. I think the only way they could affect the pond or body of water is that they might scare away bass that are holding close to the bank and force them to deeper water, which you may or may not be targeting at that time. Cool birds though, and once again thanks so much for that pic Fish Chris, it inspired me to go camera shopping.
  4. i just put the tape on the line, it doesnt come into contact with the reel. That is why I was wondering how it could possibly effect the reel. Another thing you could do is just strip the line, you will most likely be respooling for the next season anyway. Also is there any other things you can use to seel and clean your cork handles besides the denatured alchohal and the U-40?
  5. wow, I think I just lost all respect for roland martin. These ideas are so ridiculous that they actually sell a couple.
  6. I know I know there are a bunch of braid threads going right now and I hate to make another one but I didnt want to hijack anyone elses post. Alright so for the next season I am considering making the switch to braid. I want to know why I should buy something that wraps up on your rod tip, digs into your spool, and is immposible to cut, all for pulling out a 1-5 pound fish. I want to stick to mono for certain applications like cranking and jerkbaits, but I think switching to braid for my topwater frogs and other plugs and also for flipping, pitching t rigged plastics or standup jigs. I can see how this would be an advantage because it provides more power and sensitivity, but is it worth it?
  7. 3/0 or 4/0 EWG, the size is just a preference but I use the 4/0 most of the time cause I usually switch from senkos to a fat ika type thing and a 4/0 is necessary for a fat ika.
  8. I use tape, I dont see why it would damage the reel or anything?
  9. citica by FAR. The other three are miniscule compared to that combo.
  10. this thread has gotten off topic but that is a beautiful fish. Nice job
  11. 1. New PB of course, gonna be tough my PB is only 1 pound 4 ozs of the lake record that I got it on. 2. Master Jigs and Deep Diving Cranks 3. Fish 10 Tournaments 4. Finally get that first boat 5. Have a ton of fun! ;D
  12. very nice picture and a nice fish too.
  13. same here i have a bad history of guessing so I will congratulate you on the nice fish you got there. Good job
  14. wow monster crappie and nice bass
  15. cranking is defenitly up there with the best techniques to catch fish in the fall. Try fishing one right along a weedline with some rocks around as well. This where I have been catching all my fish. Of course things might change due to the climate in Flordia rather than in NY.
  16. Here are my recommendations, again just my opinions. 1. That reel is huge and sounds like a light saltwater reel. Get another reel. You can find some for pretty cheap that have around 10-11 bearings and dont weight nearly as much and will still hold a good amount of line. I would recommend the diawa regal Xi. This reel is only 39.99 2. I would again go with a name brand rod. St Croix Premier is a very reliable and quality rod. The Team all star rods are top of the line and I know people that swear by them. 3. I don't know how you would fish for pike, walleye, muskie and bass all at the same time on the same rig. So I think that is a little unreasonable. Unless you are using live bait all of those species require different presentations. I would say make this one primarily a bass and or walleye rig. Your gonna need something bigger for the bigger species.
  17. If I need to use braid. You can bet I am using Powerpro. However I am mostly a mono, flouro type guy.
  18. Nice fish lightninrod!
  19. Awesome fish. It looks really long and pretty thick. If that fish had just a fwe more bluegills down his throat I could say it was 7-8. Right now judging from your size and how your holding it, I will say 5.5-6.5. Who knows?
  20. I say we do the spring thing, or else I know I wont be able to partake in the challenge. P.S. what ever happened to the mojo thing? Did it just stop?
  21. agree with all these "rules." I once ordered from BPS on a Saturday at 8 pm because I was so anxious to get my order in that night when I made my mind up. I recived my package 2 and a half weeks later on ground shipping which is supposed to be 5-10 days. :-X
  22. they are nice but I am not a big fan of the power hump, it makes the rod feel a bit bulkier. Once you get used to it it is no problem though. Also look into the BPS extreme or the bionic blade. Both rods are very similar to the johnny morris signature.
  23. fishin phil, what was your favorite part?
  24. thats a good way to end the year if you do call it quits
