  1. ive used a bunch of different braids since the 90s.here my top picks of the ones ive used. suffix 832 , tufline domin8 , Berkley trilene professional grade braid , diawa j braid ,powerpro super slick in that order. didn't like any of the spiderwire products after original spidewire.
  2. Took a trip to Cabela's Hartford store today and was really disappointed. Nothing in stock and bare lsles.Hopefully they will get their act together.i can't believe bass pro let it look that bad.
  3. I have been using braid since the early 1990s. I have never had it snap on a cast. Started with 30 lb original spiderwire. Went to 50 lb powerpro. Then used. Spiderwire stealth for a short time followed by sufix performance braid and sufix 832. Used berkely professional grade with awesome results.tried diawa j braid and am now using tufline domin8.out ofaprox 25 years of braid use I've never snapped it on a cast.
  4. I use the Johnny Morris signature series and love them. Never broke 1 in over 15 years. Looked at the rods you mentioned in the store and they look good also I just haven't used them. My wife has a bionic blade and so do some of my buddies. They are all good values.
  5. Fantastic line imho. It has no coating which is why it's limp . Virtually no guide noise because it's so smooth. I use 50 lb and have no digging issues. The only thing is it fades fast which I really could care less. I color the last 10 feet black anyway.
  6. Used to be Pflueger but I've switched to Lew's reels.
  7. If Lew's products are any indication then sk lovers have nothing to worry about price or quality wise.
  8. The first two things I want are blanks that don't break and reel seats that don't let your reel wiggle. Next is quality guides and good guide alignment and wrapping. The rod should be light.action and power depend upon what you want or like for how you fish.i prefer cork handles.i personally like rods with a Matt black finish.i feel coatings just add weight and lose sensitivity.last but still important is value for your money. Exotic extremely high priced rods are nice but don't catch you any more fish.
  9. Anything lews.imho they make the best reels for the money today.
  10. Foe $60 a field and stream tech spec black can't be beat. this rod totally surprised me. nice and light and really sensitive . has handled 4 and 5 lb bass in weeds with no problem.
  11. Ok I'm gonna try flourocarbon again. I need to know if this line is as good as its internet reviews. I want to hear the good and the bad from guys who have actually used it. I spooled some up and it casts really well. I have not had a chance to fish with it yet do to frozen water.
  12. Depends on what you like. I like a stiff extra fast rod for jigs.i would go with the MH.
  13. I like the duckett better but ive heard the guides groove. The veritas has sic guides. Veritas 2.0 is a much better rod than the original. Suggest going one power softer than a duckett because veritas are stiffer.
  14. Update time.fished Friday night from 6 to 10.caught a 12 inch largemouth and a 11 inch white perch. Started using a half oz shad colored rattling rapala and got hit burning it over a rocky point.produced a 4-5 smallie that put up an awesome fight.no picture cause I lost my phone the day before.I went home happy.I'm still learning this reservoir and at least I haven't been skunked .?
  15. NYC makes you keep your boat there.it has to be steam cleaned before you can put it on s reservoir.
  16. Did the crankbait thing.? maybe this lake is just slow right now.I haven't gotten skunked I'm just wishing it was better.
  17. Caught 4 Dink's.nothing on shakey heads or jig or plastic craw.water temp 82 and stained.level down 5 feet so laydowns limited.fish suspended 5 to 10 feet down .fished boulders and caught my 4 fish off boulders 2 on power worms and 2 senko fish. Nothing big.fished from 5 am to 1 pm.tough day. No trolling motors allowed on reservoir.
  18. I have a depth finder and just got it set up right to mark fish.those islands have both produced fish as have some of the laydowns.success has been scattered so far but the fish I've caught have been quality. Going again tomorrow to try the shakey head and some craw lures. I'll let you guys know what happens.
  19. Water color was green stained. Water temps were 78 to 82 degrees.
  20. I put my rowboat on Sodom reservoir in the NYC reservoir system this year.you have to be permitted by NYC and leave your boat locked there. The previous reservoir I fished had tons of weeds and cover. The new one is rocks with NO weeds.it is steep in most areas with some points and shallower areas .finding fish is not easy but I haven't gotten skunked yet.most fish were caught on wacky rig senkos or t rig worms in 5 to 15 feet of water.I am not used to this type of fishing and need serious suggestions.has largies smallies big white perch and walleye mostly.

  22. But not 50 lb. The thicker diameter helps prevent dig in.never pull against a snag.get s wood dowel and wrap your line around it and pull.this prevents digs from starting.
  23. Love this line.using 8 lb on spinning 14 and 17 on baitcasters.have not had any line twist or looping issues. Line is extremely strong even in 8 lb test.
