  1. FWIW I let my brother who has never cast a “casting” reel in his life use my curado dc and on setting 4 with the tension knob set a little tighter than what the directions call for he never backlashed it once. Never even touch the spool with his thumb, not even to stop it when the lure hit the ground. With that being said I find it very difficult to not get backlashes on setting number 1. I’m still trying to get used to it and figure out where the sweet spot is but that first setting is a bear.
  2. I too was wondering about this, I loosened my tension knob until there was barely any spool movement on the spool and got some serious backlashes on setting 1. I’m thinking maybe I need to tighten the tension knob more than I’m used to.
  3. Yep I'm in the process as we speak, I'm about halfway done now. Plus I'm adding more so it's becoming real expensive but it's worth it.
  4. Pretty close considering the mbass is has an extra 2 inches. Thanks for the pics. I'm torn really, the 7'4"-7'5" is the perfect length for me but honestly I believe I'd like just a tad slower tip, so I may have just answered my own question.
  5. I back all my reels so I get more line out of each spool. Most of the time I'll put 15-20 yards of cheap mono then fill the rest up with good line.
  6. In that particular case I would probably pull it all off and start over. Unless you wanted to pull it off and add more backing to your spool then put the braid back on top of it. How many yards of braid do you think you have left on it?
  7. Dc 744 is what I was considering, I've got a Dc 704 and absolutely love the tip for fishing small jigs and the like. Would you say the weight of the emtf is comparable to the dobyns?
  8. I prefer a reel right around 5.4:1 for cranks, especially if your gonna be throwing a 10ft or deeper crank. Really saves your arms and keeps you from getting wore out as quick.
  9. Alright guys, so I'm in the market for a new t-rig rod and they're are 2 I have in mind but just can't decide. I wish I could buy both but just can't swing it right now. The 2 I have in mind are either a champion 744 or an orochi extreme mission type f. I have a few champions and absolutely love them but have never owned a megabass rod. Anyone have any experience with these 2 rods?
  10. Do yourself a favor and get the champion, you will be glad you did. At the price point of the champion xp I feel that it is unmatched in sensitivity and balance. I can't really speak on the glass rods but all my bottom rods are champions and they just feel so sweet.
  11. I've got a 704c and I cannot say enough good things about it. I honestly believe you could throw a little lighter than what it's rated for.
  12. I'm going to reiterate what others have said, I've got a lot of Lews reels and am switching all of them to shimanos this yea due to the fact that shimanos are so well made. The smoothness of Shimano reels is just unmatched, especially at the mid to higher end price range. I've got $250 Lews reels that feel like a pile of plastic and aren't even as smooth as a curado.
  13. Awesome, don't know how I missed this video
  14. Thanks for the input, I've got it narrowed down to the curado 70 and tha tatula sv.
  15. For all you guys that own a curado 70 what would you say is the minimum lure weight it could throw. I keep a weightless senko tied up at all times and its one of my favorite baits to throw. The reel I use for my weightless setup right now is capable but I'm looking for something different and a little better for lighter baits.
  16. I throw weightless senkos with 15lb line on my tatula Ct quite often and it handles those very well
  17. I have a tatula Ct and for a sub $150 reel it's great. I've found it's very comfortable to fish with all day and seems to be holding up very well after a year of use. If I was to sell all my lews I could see myself buying a fleet of tatula ct's. Definitely check eBay for them
  18. Honestly I would be worried about getting spooled by a big red with the 70, especially if you hook into a 30 incher or bigger
  19. I crank with an older tournament mg which I love but if I was to pick another it would be a bb1 pro
  20. What's kinda strange is tw has the k listed at 7.6oz yet the I is listed at 7.4oz, but the k is supposed to be 10% smaller. Kinda confusing
  21. The 70 is definitely high up on the list along with all the Japanese counterparts, I finished my Lew's collection a couple months ago time to start on the shimanos
  22. I noticed here recently how much the price has come down on the I's so I figured this would be the year of the new curado, may end up picking up both the old one and the new one(when it comes out)
  23. Sorry if this has already been discussed but couldn't find anything about it. With icast coming up I've heard rumors about shimano releasing some new reels to replace the current curado and possibly others, I know the chronarch Mgl just came out so I doubt there will be a new one. I'm a tackle freak so my question is should I scoop up a curado i now before they're gone (because we all know what happens to the price of shimanos that are no longer available)?
  24. Dude lew's is legit from their customer service all the way down to their products. All my rods have lew's reels sitting on top of them.
