I'm talking SMASH Fest. I love it when they get balled up in summer time. Nothing like catchin 7 pounders on bfs setups and 8 Pound test. In deep open water. Feels like you're fighting a freakin tuna.

If kvd could change from quantum to shimano and gloomis. And from nitro to ranger you think he'd do it? I realize it's not the boat, or the rod and reel that. Catch the fish. But better equipment makes a difference. aaron martens doesn't have a reel sponser hence he uses shimano. Made the switch from diawa a few years ago.

Before sonar was really good and developed how did the pros fish offshore structure especially unfamiliar waters. Was reading maps and depth changes that effective?did they have maps that identified creeks humps road beds and such like today? Because I reckon the detailed maps of today are a byproduct of technology advances in sonar. Did they even have detailed maps that we have now? Or was everybody beating the bank or throwing at some visible structure that continued underwater. Reason I ask is I'm going to be with out sonar. while I save up. For new units. The old lowrance small units were very basic anyway. And I still want to fish offshore as much as I can

Most of the guys I know in the swimbait world throw cxx. Straight one line one knot period point blank. Cxx is the only line for glides imop. probably get away with 12 lb on the 168 15# at most. I throw 20 pound on 250s never have any problems re tie alot.

Happens to me about once a year. I don't back lash much anymore. Usually end up gut hooking fish when it happens

Trout baits will work anywhere but Texas. Don't even bother trying

I have custom angles off of a lamiglass blank spiral wrapped. Ldc white lable xh . And calcutta conquest and te's. I wouldn't go any lighter than that

3.5 pounds I'd say. Maybe a nice one for the area you fish.

Ive said on similar thread here before yall wouldnt believe it, but this is it. ..P.b. hooked up. Its maybe @ huge status. Get to the boat. Fish darts under the boat. I think my rods gonna break. Half the rod is in the water fish pulling opposite direction. Fish swims towards surface and nails the freakin boat. Some how one of the trebles on the the swim bait got stuck on the keel gaurd. And I couldn't get it off. The fish beat the bottom of the boat for a few seconds and got off.

Won't work. Especially in Texas. They won't eat trout swimbaits.
