  1. what makes it better than say a pop r. Hooks and hard ware? A popper doesn't really have much action.pop and float.
  2. I've been fishing the 85 dollar lews speed spool for the last 4 years. It's held up longer than the veritas, I put it on (broke a guide somehow, probably bouncing around the bed or my jon boat). Its great for the price. Ive been wanting to get my hands on a high end lews. But I've come to be a very loyal to shimano. 3 chronarchs, 2 scorpions, 7 curados, and a core later. Ive had no buyers remorse.
  3. The physics of fishing for me = chunk & wind
  4. My favorite lake is a power plant lake. Winter and summer. What lake is that?
  5. No. 90 percent of the time I fish alone. Unless I'm swimbait fishing I carry atleast 5 or 6 rods that will cover me. And I've got twice that many ready to go at home. Even when I'm swimbait fishing I keep a texas rig close by
  6. I see. my rod now over powers the smaller baits and doesn't load the rod for good casts. I figured I could use 68's and Matt gill on the same rod. Because they are similar in weight.
  7. Loading a boat in 40 mph cross winds and white caps.
  8. Other rods I'd consider maybe is a crucial, Irod , or a skinner rod if anyone has any water time with these sticks. My first choice would be a megabass white python. But it's not quite in the budget
  9. Buying a rod for 2oz range soft baits lIke hud 68 special, matlures ultimate blue gill, huddgill, and bigger non rigged baits like the smashtech head smasher xxl. Probably throw some 168 glides as well. Pretty much have it narrowed down to the gloomis imx 904c swb. Anybody fish these or any other rods like this. I like a 7'6 rod for this purpose because I like to skip these baits. I'm throwing all these baits on an 8 footer now, and feel I could do better with a shorter rod. Also sensitivity is important. I like to bottom bump thsee baits. I fish the ultimate bluegill almost like a jig. Thanks
  10. And they don't have lure ratings? That sucks. I'm about to pull the trigger on a light swimbait rod. For 2oz soft swimbaits. Hud 68s, mat ultimate gills. Hudgills. Smaller glides, etc. I want a 7,6 rod and not longer, my first choice is an gloomis imx swimbaitrod, then maybe an irod, but these halos at this price is a really good deal. If the xx heavy can handle smaller swimbaits
  11. Grande bass rattlesnake as of late. Cali red
  12. So cal even worse . Was at clear lake in July levels were good and Vail and skinner in September it was pretty slow fishing. Jigs deep dI'd best
  13. I buy pitboss and then whatever else is on discount.I pick the pretty colors for me, the fish could care less.
  14. I bought 100 hand-tied custom jigs last year from a small company in Nor Cal on the cheap. Now I'm down to about 20
  15. You could probably find a 15 year old boat in decent shape for an 18 foot glass. I've owned 4 boats and and 1 was a money pit. I'd suggest aluminum they are more forgiving and I made a lot of mistake my first few years. What ever you buy make sure it's lake ready, reliable, good tires greased wheel bearings. Take it to the lake and drive it. Spin the prop with your hand and look for a wobbly hub. Ask what gas he runs. (Preferably ethanol free) at most <5, bring a volt meter check voltage at t.m. plug. Run the t.m. at the lake.plus all pumps. If you can have a leak down test done. My first boat was a 16 foot hand me down jon boat. With a 15 horse johnson. That I still have. It was a great boat to learn and it got me on the water for many great days of fishing and still does (trotlines duty). That would be my route with a 4k budget.
  16. A. No brainer imo
  17. My vote goes to mister twister. I've burned up 2 so far cleaning crappie and whites. I've been using a good filet knife now and I feel it's just as fast. And requires less effort.
  18. if I'm not at a power plant lake... fishing will probably always be better than hunting. Especially in the state of Texas the sportsmanship is leaving the sport. It's more like wait till the feeder goes off and then pay a rancher a few grand plus trophy fees. Now my hats off to the fellas out west who hunt the mountains.
  19. I've got a used 18.5 foot skeeter for sale. Just saying...
  20. P.b. for the month of november 8.2# caught bumping a smashtech xxl swumbait rigged on a 8/0 owner beast. Casting from a few feet of water down to 25+ and dragging it back up paralleling a road through the middle of the lake.
  21. Some have open wounds. Some look short and very fat for their length. And most of all some fish's eyes are almost completely popped out of their heads? Does anyone know why? Or if these fish are even healthy.
