  1. Stikos are stronger and last longer, but dont get as good of a "wiggle" usualy. Tikis sink slower and have a good tail wiggle. Senkos are expensive, but the whole lure wiggles on the way down. What makes each lure do that is how much softener is added to the mix (the texture of the plastic) and how much salt is added. (the weight) They all catch fish. Some might be better than others in sertain situations, but I've cought loads on all of them. If you have the cash, use senkos or tikis, becuase the extra action probaly helps things. If your on a budget, get stickos. (BPS brand) They all work great, and out of the three of them I prefer them all. (edit for more detail)
  2. For now, I use a 7' Med spinning combo for everything exept swimbaits. Yes, BC reels have their pros, but I dont see any reason to not use a spinning reel for what I do, besides the fact that you can not thumb the spool. (which comes in handy sometimes) I fish heavy cover banks and casting spinning gear in tight spots is easier than casting IMHO. just my .02
  3. I have that rod in 7"11' Heavy. Its a good rod, it doesnt bend easy but when pressure is applied it can bend over very far. (suprising for how stiff it is) Yeah its not the lightest rod around but anything that has heavy action and is over 7' isnt going to be that light. The bottom part of the split grip fits your hand perfectly and helps with the casting. I use Mattlures Bluegills on it with 30lb braid, with a Browning reel, and I can flip and pitch a very long ways. It is rated for 1-6oz so it can throw basicly any swimbait out there. For being so big, it is very sensitive. I can tell the difference between a log and stick easily. Tight lines Matt
  4. Yeah that bass was the most heathy one I've probaly ever seen. She was fat, dark top, white belly and had beautiful distinct markings. Its always great to catch a bass like that. In a couple years she will be a monster.
  5. Today me and some of the "Bass Brothers" woke up at 8:00am and where at our spot by 8:30. We just got back at 7:30pm, wich makes for 11 hours fishing. For 9 of those hours I was using a jig (the "Brothers" where using a jig most of the time) and the results where monstrosoliss. (aka very nice) I got a really nice 4.25lber ealier, Jessie got a 4.5lber later on, and at 1:15 Sean (sean_e_bus21) broke the "Bass Brothers" record with a wopping 6lb monster! All the bass exept one where cought on dark/brown/craw/blue/green jigs LOL. Total was 28lbs! Talk about heart pounding! (we where all shaking as Sean landed his hawg) I know some of you guys catch bass like this everyday, but anything over 4lbs around here is a rare occassion. We where all pumped! After i cought my nice one everyone tied on a jig, and needless to say, today 3 more people on this planet where "jig-verted" (even though I was jigverted last week) It was overcast the whole day, but the rain held off. The bite was slow all afternoon, but we cought some small ones before dark. People always say history repeats itself, and right now I'm hoping it does! Tight lines Matt
  6. The mighty Fish Chris uses alot of Okuma products, and I also recomend their spinning reels. I've been using my Stingson for a while now and she is every bit as smooth as the day I got her. Never lost a bass becuase of drag or any other problem. For a graphite frame she holds up against what I put here through quite well, too this day the gears are almost silent. Over the many trails and trials, I have named her "Ol' Trusty"
  7. I'm William C. Westmoreland! BTW my grandpa fought under Patten's command.
  8. I belive it says somthing about that in the FAQs thread.
  9. I'm Marshel Matt Dillan from the Browning Bandit Buster Bunch. Stick 'em up.
  10. That sounds more like a nightmere than a dream. The kind you wake up in a cold sweat from. ;D ;D ;D
  11. I started my season two weeks ago, and I've been doing great on spinnerbaits (silver colorado, nothing one willow blades) and Jigs. Fat crankbaits have been working good in the shallows. Suprisingly, not one single hit on soft plastics or seknos. They have been hitting hard, and are chasing lures out of cover at slow/medium speeds. Thats all the info I got.
  12. I dreamed I was fishing last night, but I couldn't set the hook becuase I woke up right as the trophy bass inhaled my swimbait.... (i'm not joking lol)
  13. If your going to upgrade, do it now. I'm sure watching the one Fork video will make it worth it.
  14. If you are fishing jigs and cranks with the same rod, I would go with a 7ft Med-Hvy with a fast tip.
  15. Dispite what some of you filthy rich people say, hooks are to expensive to replace when they get dull. (atleast for me) I got a hook hone for a few bucks, and it does wonders. In just a minute you can turn the dullest hook into a razor. Its great for baits like spinnerbaits where the hook can not be changed.
  16. And why do we drive on the parkway and park on the driveway? Why do they call it Rhode Island when it is not a road or a island? Why is the North Pole and Town Square called that when they are really round? Who was the genis that named a town in New York, New York?
  17. Today I took my swimbait rig out for the seccond time. Fished my secret spot for 4 hours, and got one hit. It wasnt anything big, probaly a small bass biting off more than he could cram down. Yesterday I had snagged my one and only Mattlures Bluegill out on a log, so today I brought a big tire tube and went out there and got it back. After a hour or so, I snagged again, and repeated the rescue. It was freeeeeezing, the water couldn't have been over 50* and there was 20 mph winds, and I was out there soaked in just my boxers. But far be it from me to loose a lure that I payed $26.50 (inlcuding shipping lol) out there to rot. Anyway, I was running it at a medium speed close to the surface, and wasnt getting much action at all. My friends where catching dinks here and there, and they think I'm crazy with my "new fangled swimbait notions". But I'm not going to catch anything if I dont try. Besides, I rather catch one 5lber than 50 dinks. One of these days, after many hours of fishing, a bass of such size will slam my swimbait that it will shut up the negitive veiws some of my buddies have for good, and after the summer is over, I'll have a whole photobucket page of bass that wouldn't have been cought if I gave up. Thats what keeps me going. Everytime my bait nudges a stick, my heart skips a beat. Its only a matter of time intill a bass can not resist such a tempting bait. I cant wait for the spawn to try out sight fishing. On the plus side, I got a spinnerbait out of a branch while I was out on the tube, saw a rainbow, and there was a great sunset. As Fish Chris said, "I was one bite away from the perfect trip" Keeping on Keeping on, Matt
  18. wow thats crazy, I read that whole thing in 2 secconds.
  19. So the best times are when the moon is right above or below your position? What does the full or new (sun light reflections) have to do with the magnetic pull?
  20. http://bassresource.com/bassfishing/fishing_solunar_moon.html Can someone please explain how this works? What is a "sunlunar period"? Thanks alot Matt
  21. Mattlures Bluegill. I'm a quality over quanity, size over surplus sort of guy.
  22. LOL this thread sounds like me and my buddies bank fishing. If you get a hit, never say so. Becasue If you do there will be 5 other lures casted from all over the pond to that exact spot before you can even reel your lure in. :
  23. Sweet bass! what a hog! I got some hits on my ML bluegill today. (3 big ones to be exact) But for one reason or another didnt hook up with them. :-/ Oh well, it got my heart racing (the first one was right at my feet) and I'm going back tomarrow. From what I've heard and seen, Mattlures is the hot bait to be had. (and you got to love the name! ) Tight lines Matt
  24. Thats great work. The one in the middle looks awsome. Keep it up.
  25. People to litter. Thats one thing that ticks me off. Today i was fishing and this guy threw his plastic wawa bag into the water from the dock. I had my waders on, so I went over there and got it out of the water and put it by my bike. All the time giving him the "I hate people like you" look. If he wasnt three times my size I would have told him "I would give this back to you to throw out, but I wouldnt put in the hands of someone so careless." I cant stand it when I'm fishing and someone throws their plastic bottle or cup or whatever junk they have into the water right infront of me. It makes my blood boil.
