  1. How about a 50 HP Mercury? ;D
  2. Looks like muddy didnt break the 15lb mark, what a shame. :-/ ;D ;D ;D Wish'n I Was Fishing Matt
  3. 30% (Yankee). A definitive Yankee. Who in their right mind would call a water fountain a "bubbler?" lol
  4. I have a 7ft Medium Fenwick Venture (older version of the Eagle GT) and It is my one and only rod in use right now. (besides swimbait combo) I use it for jigs, cranks, spinnerbaits, topwater, buzzbaits, soft plastics, T and C rigs, chatterbaits, jigging spoons, and anything and everything. It has never failed me, Its a great rod. Its nice to just bring one combo when you are a bank fisherman, and 7ft Meduim can cover most of the tackle box.
  5. sorry for hi-jacking the thread, but It seemed better than making another one. Mattlures, I fish some pickerel infested waters, and I am timid about fishing your swimbaits in them. Your baits are very well priced, but $26 (w/ shipping) is a whole months allowance for me and I have nightmares about loosing my Bluegill. Do pickerel strike swimbaits often? Do pickerel even target sunfish? If I happend to get a pickerel on, how much damage would be done to one of your baits? Is there anyway I can prevent them striking or the damage done as a result? (i'm not worried about line damage, I'm worried about lure damage) Thanks a ton Matt PS Nice first name
  6. I have to say if I where a bass, a slow running Mattlures Baby Bluegill would be the most tasty looking. They look so real its not even funny.
  7. yeah and alot of ice. Looks like the spawn is on hold for now... :-/ Dude spawn won't be in full swing until maybe mid-end of may at the earliest. We are still all ice here. Not really. The water has to be a steady 60*, and the air was 75* one of the days. Its been unusualy cold here this month, so they probaly will not start intill the begining of april (full moon)
  8. Yeah I hang out with friends everyday. I'm one of the "Bass Brothers", five guys my age that go fishing together basicly everyday. We have had some very funny and sometimes rather risky adventures, and I've known them for years and years (as long as i can remember) You can hang out with friends while sitting at a computer starring into a screen typing to eachother, or you can hang out with friends well injoying the great outdoors, listening to nature's song of silence, and having accual conversations. I prefer the later. I couldn't not spend every day possible in the outdoors. there's wayyyyyy to much to do out there.
  9. no offense intended, but my very humble opinion is: Myspace, Xanga and all those other things are a bad waste of good fishing time. I eat, sleep, school, eat, fish, and go on BassResource.com. (in that order) By the time I'm done with that, I'm doing it again. Can I have a amen?
  10. yeah and alot of ice. Looks like the spawn is on hold for now... :-/
  11. Wish i was going.... :-[ Well you guys are getting tan in the warm texas sunshine, eating meatballs, and landing sharelunkers I'll be sitting inside twidling with crankbaits well the ice storm rages outside. Good luck and safe travel.
  12. JMHO but.... I see no reason to spend money on a product that causes tooth decay, cancer, harms the imune system and tastes bad.
  13. Yup. Fish, dogs, cats, cows and house flies all feel pain and treasure their lives. Most people would think taking a cute little puppy and run it over on purpose is wrong. Thats basicly the same thing you do when you swat a fly. Why is it wrong to do it to the dog and not the fly? Well, for starters, it isnt. Just becuase a animal has feelings, is smart, and injoys life, dosnt mean it is wrong to kill it and not kill a animal that doesnt have feelings, isnt smart, and doesnt injoy life. If dogs went around pooping on food, spreading sickness, and harming nature and not helping it, and running them over was the easiest way to kill them, then they should be run over. And it is 100% humane. Now dont think I think animal cruelity is OK. But there is a difference between being cruel and being nice to the human race. God made meat to be eaten, fish to be fished for, cows to be killed, flies to be swatted, and humans to benifet from it all. The word "humane" has the word "Human" in it. Not "Animal"
  14. Just got back. We had a severe cold front and the bass had lock jaw. Not a single hit on anything. Dan, however, got a nice 19"er on a Bagley Balsa B. (Chart Craw) Picture http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/IMG00001-2.jpg Tomarrow is going to be freezing so I think I'll stay home. Its too bad we only had a week of warmth, but summer will be here and gone in two shakes of a lamb's tail. Tight lines Matt
  15. IMHO Carp have every right to be bolth eaten and released as bass do. So what if carp hurt the bass pop? If one native speices wipes out another and makes it instinct, then that is complety natural and shouldn't be prevented by bass fisherman. Yes, carp are not completly natural, but they have been around here for 100 years and the bass fishing is still good, So I say they are natural. Carp are amazing fish and figh much harder and longer pound to pound than bass. I rather catch a 40lb carp than a 10lb bass for sure.
  16. Only fish chris could all that and not totaly flip out and fall out of the boat. Amazing fish! Keep it up!
  17. Thanks guys. Tonight I'll give you a full report of today's trip, and this time I'll tie on a jig sooner.
  18. Well me and they gang hit our honey hole today, with even better luck (luck has nothing to do with it really) than yesterday. We where trying everthing with no hits at all. cranks, senkos, spinnerbaits, then I tied on a jig. First cast: twitch, twich, twich, SLAM got one on. Set the hook like bill dance and the jig came flying back at me. Next cast, same thing, and this time I nailed him. After the smoke cleared, I landed my first bass ever on a jig, and he was a whopper. Sean said it was 4.5lbs and I said it was 5lbs. Here she is: http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/IMG00001-1.jpg I was getting a bunch of hits, so naturaly my partner tied on a jig. It was his first time using a jig and he got a nice 2-3lber. Sean's getting landed: (video) http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=IMG00004.flv I'm going again tomarrow, and the next day, and the next, and 5 days a week all summer, so expect more pictures of big bass. EDIT forgot to add, the jig was a 1/4 ounce w/ chartruse/blue skirt. Sean's was a 1/4oz w/ brown/black skirt. Tight lines and Sunny Structure Matt
  19. Thanks. We are going back to the same spot today. I'll post the results on this thread tonight. This time I'm bringing the swimbait combo, so I'm hoping for somthing big.
  20. Me and my good ol fish'n pals took advantage of the warm weather and hit our secret pond today, with exelent results. I caught 2 bass around 2lbs (one was weighed, the other one was probaly 1/2lb lol) and my friends didn't do so terrible themselves. Daniel (bassholebuster14) managed (just barley) to land a 3 and 3.5lber, and caught the first bass of the season out of the whole group. Here is Dan with his 3.5 http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/img00012.jpg Here is myself with my 2nd bass of 2007 http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/IMG00010-1.jpg Here is a video of 3lber release http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=IMG00008.flv Here is a video of 3.5 bass getting landed http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=IMG00011-1.flv Here is Sean (sean_e_bus21) trying to be cool and catch fish at the same time. (not happening) http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/IMG00003-1.jpg Here is a video (that has nothing to do with anything) of me crashing into a tree while gracfuly in flight http://s52.photobucket.com/albums/g9/catfishguy/?action=view&current=IMG00007.flv We spent 5 hours there and we all caught 7 bass total. Pretty good for a bunch of kids on one of the first warm days. We where slam'n (bass and trees) with senkos, spinnerbaits, and ourselves. Tight lines and shallow spawns Matt
  21. Thanks a ton Nick. I was worried no one would answer. Matt
  22. Great way to start of the season! You might catch a bigger one yet!
  23. Ok, I got a bunch of questions here, so bear with me. I read that the bass spawn during a full or new moon. I was wondering, why do they do this? What affect does the moon have on their spawning? Why do some bass spawn in the full moon (more light) and some in the new moon? (much less light) Also, what water temp. do the bass prefer to spawn in? If there is shallow structure with a sandy bottom (or a bottom perferable for spawning) Will the bass spawn close to the structure or do they try to avoid it? Would a muddy bottom large (many acres) cove that is very shallow (2 at deepest) covered in lilly pads atract spawning bass? I read that sunlight is needed for a sucsessful spawn. Would this keep bass from spawning under lilly pads? Would a bass spawn in a mud bottom, or only sand/gravel bottoms? Would a female bass who is spawning/guarding eggs chase down food? Is it best to act like a threat or like a meal when fishing for spawning bass? (I am ussuming its best to be a "threat") I bet carp are a big danger for bass eggs. They are too big for the bass to attack, and they feed on anything they can slup up. True or false? If carp are a danger, then why dont they make small carp lures/swimbaits to use during the spawn? Would useing golden/brown jigs or crankbaits be worth trying around nests? After the full/new moon, (spawn starts) how long does it take for the eggs to hatch? Do the bass start eating the hatchlings right away or do they kinda give them a head start? A spawning bass will stay near the nest (most of the time) intill the eggs hatch right? Once she is done spawning, (eggs hatch) will the bass return to normal feeding/schooling and other things right away? After the spawn is over, when fishing for bass and pickerel, It is probaly a good thing to use baby bass imitating lures, correct? How long does it take for a baby bass to reach 12" in length? When do panfish spawn? I see them with their nests in the early summer, but I'm not exactly sure. Do the same rules apply for panfish/crappie as they do with bass? If a bass sees a spawning panfish, would she be more or less prone to attack then when she sees a panfish just swiming around? Thanks alot for anyone who answers one of these questions. Sorry for asking so much. Matt EDIT I forgot to add, I release every bass I catch. (spawn or no spawn) Is it best to release spawning bass where you landed them or where their nest is? If you release them 30 feet from where you cought them, they should be able to find their way back quickly, right? Any particular way that is best for landing spawning bass?
  24. And on the way back down you can stop in NJ and throw in a line with me and Alpster.
