  1. Welcome to the forums, this place is chuck full of good advice. And nice fish! Thats a real fat one. I say 8lbs sounds right, but it could be anywhere from 7-9llbs. Its hard to tell just by pictures. See you on the boards!
  2. I always thought a shark was a fish..... now i'm confused.... :-/ Do you know it costs 2 cents to make a penny?

  5. Hey ben, when you finnished with the paper, PM it to me. I'm going to be getting into tournements sooner or later and could use the tips from a pro like you. Thanks Matt
  6. 1. Cheaper than normal popper or weedless frog 2. Texas rig is weedless and is suposed to get better hooksets than frog hooks. 3. All lures have a different action, some get strikes when somthing else simular doesnt. Thats all the reasons i can think up.... I beleive it would catch fish, and if it would catch fish then why not give it a try?
  7. Looks good. Didn't see any typos or anything. I'm getting into tourneys next summer, so maybe a few years from know i can hook up some sponserships. Man, i hope to have as good a tourney record as you! 10 top 3s and 6 wins out of 10 tourneys? thats amazing! I bet you'll have no problem getting a couple of soponsers before the big event.
  8. Hey guys, dont go so hard on him. He is a male raindeer, exepect him to get lost. Guys never ask for directions, remember? ;D ;D ;D
  9. Americans on average eat 18 acres of pizza every day There are 293 ways to make change for a dollar A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why. Your stomach has to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks; otherwise it will digest itself.
  10. I say the best way to cure a hangover is to not get one in the first place.
  11. I hope that doesn't fall on someone sleeping ;D I would never sleep with a monitor hanging over my head like that. Thats just bad news waiting to happen.
  12. 2lbs 1oz for the LMB (the first one)
  13. Nice carp! did you weigh it? And i know the hardships of carp fishing. They are very hard to catch: one must wait a while with a line in the water. But it is all worth it once you see your line zipping acrossed the water, the carp heading for deep water. I like to carp fish while i bass fish. Double the fun.
  14. Avid speaks truth. When ever i go to walmart with my mom to buy lures, i head right to the fishing deparment, spend a couple minutes chosing what to buy, then start looking for my mom. Once i find her, it takes about 3 hours (depending on how many outfits are for sale) to convince her it is time to leave.
  15. I have always used mono (8-12lb) on bolth spinning and casting. I fish alot of structure, such as rocks and logs, and the Trilene XL holds out against abraision very well. Alot of people worry about fish snapping their lines using lighter mono, but that is easily prevented by setting the drag right. I havn't had a fish snap my line in months. My friend uses power pro braid. It seems strong, but i have noticed a few things about it: Knots slip Cuts hands Isn't any more abrasion resisant that mono... (as far is i've seen) Snags can break rods I have no trouble landing fish with mono, not in the slighest. Mono is much less visable. It holds knots like a vice. So i dont see why i should switch... Yes, braid DOES have a place and time. But for the fishing i do and the budget i have, mono has never failed me.
  16. First of all welcome to the forum! I am not too good at most topwaters. But one kind that i do know how to fish is poppers. I believe the key to fishing any size, color and type of popper is to SLOWLY fish it with a varried retreive. When i mean slow i mean slooooooow. I cast out a popper, and when it hits the water, i let it sit intill the ripples are complety gone. This takes about 10-20 secconds. Then i give it a good hard pull, making it chug, plop or spit depending on what type it is. (Some types do all three) Then i wait intill the ripples disapear. This seems like a very long time when acualy doing it, but it works. After the ripples are gone, i give varry the retrieve from hard yanks to tiny twiches, keeping the lure still inbetween each plop, gurgle or twich intill the ripples leave. Let me tell you a short story. One sunny day i was fishing a local pond. All mourning i was using a Rebel Crickhopper. In the middle of the retrieve (the popper was about 30' out) I set my rod down to help my friend do somthing. was busy doing what ever i was doing (i forget exactly what) when all the sudden a bass exploded on my popper. My popper had been sitting absulutely still for atleast 4 minutes, probaly more, and yet a bass still hit it. That fish must have been watching it steadily the whole time. I was shocked to say the least. From that day on i have always known that you can never let it sit there long enough, never.
  17. 2lbs 1oz. And rocknfish, you can post your picture after this one. No one else called it.
  18. Congrats! i bet you cant wait to take her fishing. Never too young to start, you know
  19. wow! that is one amazing sunset! great picture. They dont get that colorful around here. Its a real treat to get one half that nice.
  20. I have never tried flatting hooks for bass. I supose it has its pros and cons. I always flatten the barb when catfishing. They have super soft mouths and it is very hard to removed inbedded barbs. I have never lost a catfish due to this, so i beleive it is a good idea. However, catfish do not jump like bass. It is probaly a good idea to leave the barbs for bass, due to them jumping and shaking their heads. Has anyone accualy noticed better hooksets with barbless hooks?
  21. It is inpossible to tell a fishes weight on length alone. I cought a 5lb 21" bass, and i heard of somone catching a 9.8lb 22" bass. In the picture, it looks from 5 to 6.5lbs. That lines up with 23" fairly well, depending on what part of the country its from. Great fish, regardless of the acual weight.
  22. Welcome back. Of course we forgive you. If no one forgave, then life would be miserable. We all have "crossed the line" before. No hard feelings at all.
  23. wow i'm surprised! i was only 2oz off the catfish. Thats the best guessing i've done yet.
  24. i'll go with 28lbs 6oz, 5lbs 6oz, and 3lbs 9oz
