Sinking the steel
good video LBH. Hook sets are one of my weaknesses. When i first started fishing i used poppers and rattletraps. When a fish hit, it almost always hooked itself on the double trebbles. So i didn't set the hook, i thought i didn't need too. Result is i lost alot of fish on jumps and got a habit of not setting the hook. Nowdays i usualy remember, but once in a while i'll give a weak pull instead of a set, kinda like i start fighting in the fish. What should you do if you have a weak/bad hookset, but the fish apears to be hooked fine? should you risk making the hole bigger or risk losing the fish? Matt

Tips for a fall newbie
Look for the steepest drop off you can find, and run a jig, c-rig or t-rig along or up it. Nice and slow for cold water. That should land some bass. Also try a buzzbait over the weeds. That could bring up some strikes. However, if the water is really cold bass are not as likely to strike a fast moving topwater bait, such as the buzzbait. But you have to try to see. If you get some hits on the buzzbait, then try a shad colored Ratt-L-trap over the weeds. Also running a weightless tube or lizzard over the weedbed can be deadly. Thats what i would do. Matt

Help with Fly Fishing!
OK, for this christmas i am considering getting a decint flyrod combo, and all the line and flies and blabalbla. My budget it tight. around $150 and $200 being max. The only problem is that i have never even seen a fly reel, and have absalutely no idea about anything considering fly fishing. I want to catch Bass and panfish, and trout and prehaps carp. I will be fishing creeks, ponds and lakes. I was thinking about getting this combo.... http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=72708&hvarDept=175&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=1&hvarSubCode=3&hvarTarget=browse This line: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=25195&hvarDept=175&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=3&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse This leader: http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=37518&hvarDept=175&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=3&hvarSubCode=2&hvarTarget=browse What specs should i want on my rod? How long will 90' of line last? What size and length leader should i use? Are the items i'm looking at good quaility for the price? What size line weight should i use? What the heck is a tippit? And for that matter, what the heck is a zonker?! what type of flies should i use for the species i'm fishing for? please post links, becuase i dont know any of the proper names or anything... Any help would be awsome. Thanks alot Matt

spro bronzeye frog
just for your info, its "bronzeye" not bronzeback. Bronzeback is a rod made by Gloomis, i believe. And good choice, they SRPO is the best frog on the market. As for using it, very the retreive up alot. Fish it like a popper/jitterbug/spook/anything. And dont be afraid to throw it anywhere. Brushbiles, slime, banks, lillys, it works great anywhere, even in open water.

can I?
I learned this from LBH.... Craw fish are noctural. During the day the snooze in their little nooks and crannys, making it almost inpossible to see them. Basicly almost every lake or pond has them, so dont think their arn't and just becuase you cant see them. And jigs and imitate a number of things, i believe. White and gray ones can look like feeding shad, and blue/green ones look like small bass and baitfish.

Tips for a fall newbie
Weightless Plastics are working great. However if your fishing 20ft waters a slow worked C-rig should work great. Use 7" zoom Trick Worm texas rigged, with a 1oz weight. For the shallows try some tubes. rig them snagless for the weeds.

Mann's Baby 1-Minus
Dude that would be the greatest. ;D I would pay money to see that. Now, to get back on topic.... LBH: yes, i'm sure that jerking a floating bait then letting it rise can trigger strikes. But if you want suspendsion then you should use suspending lures. Am i correct in saying that suspendsion is better this time of year?

pick me a winner
Awsome pickerel! hes a wopper. And pickerel do fight better than bass for their weight.

Best overall mono fishing line?
Trilene XL not the XT version, that stuff is no good. The XL stuff is far better.

A couple of blond jokes....
Good ones guys ;D Two blondes where driving down a country road. The looked out the window, and saw another blonde, in a rowboat, rowing for her life, in the middle of a corn field! "You know" said the first blonde, "It's blondes like her that give us a bad name." "Your right," said the seccond blonde, "If i could swim, i would go out and drown her!"

pickerelresouorce.com
I think becuse a 1lb pickerel is much longer than a 1lb bass, they fight harder. A 3lb pickerel is a good (normaly) 3-4" longer than a 3lb bass. I beilive this extra length gives them more tail power, increasing the fight.

4 combos
Browning makes great reels. I have the Six Rivers LP (same level only for steelhead) and it is amazing. I reccomend them.

I love flipping tubes, under a log I love canoeing, in a cloud of fog I love fishing jigs, right below a dam I love useing poppers, and watching the bass slam. Still Catching
its getting pretty cold here too. 40* when i woke up this mourning. I plan on taking the canoe out this afternoon with my fishn buddies in search of a nice 3lb season-closer. and LBH, isn't venison stew the best? i swear its the best soup/stew i've ever had. I come from a hunting family and we have plenty of meat to go around during the winter. Venision Jerky and Stew are my faverite. Also wild boar is very good, we got one in texas last year.

Quantum Rod for 18 bucks
If it can catch fish (and it can) it isn't junk. Although a serius bass fisherman should invest in a higher line rod and reel, the low end ones work just fine. I cought my 3 of my largest bass, 3.5lber, 4lber and a 5.2lber on a Light action 5' 6" YAD Duri-stick that cost $11. I used that rod for the first half of the past season, and it served me well. I probaly have cought more bass on that rod than any other. Unfortunatly, the rod snapped well lying in my room. If that didn't happen then i would be still using it today.

Next years goals
Mine is to catch a 6lber. Try some serius swimbaits, master jigs, and become better at cranks.
